S ewing olutions

Greetings from Sewing Solutions,

We are always so glad to see signs of spring again. With not needing to worry

about bad roads and cold snaps, it makes it easier to plan classes. And hopefully easier

to attend classes.☺

One of the most exciting (classes) planned is the Floriani embroidery event in

April. These events are famous nation-wide because of the great value of products and

education you take home. See the back for more details.

Another new class for us, is the beginner’s sewing course. Here you get to pick

and choose whatever projects you want to make. And the projects together cover a wide

range of useful sewing skills. They are intended for anyone age 10-90.

Besides the beginners sewing course, we are offering a beginner’s quilting

class. We have revised it making it a little easier. With this being a bigger project than

the sewing projects, we will only have room for 5 attendees.

We also want to welcome Irene Henrikson as a new professional seamstress and

quilter to our class forum. She has many years of experience with a background of be-

ing needle trades instructor at the Johnstown Career & Technology Center. We think

you will enjoy learning some of the secrets of the pros.

We also have had a few quilters join us on Thurs. evening for a sit and sew (and

talk.) So we want to open this up to anyone that it interested, they can join us for $10 an

evening when another class isn’t in session. The session will last from 5-8 PM. And you

will need to call ahead of time to reserve your seat. Only the quilting classes are sched-

uled on Thurs. evening this quarter. But if you aren’t interested in them, here are the

open nights to sew. April 4,11,18; May 2,9,16,23; June 27

Metallic thread can add such a beautiful shine to your project, but there are a couple tips to keep it from becoming a headache.

First of all there is a big difference in metallic thread. Avoid the kind that looks like it would shred easily. We like the Flori-

ani and Mettler metallic because they’re made to go high speed in an embroidery machine.

Another tip is to use a metallic needle. They are designed with a larger, specially-coated eye that is to prevent shredding.

Some times another issue is the tension. You shouldn’t wind a bobbin with metallic thread. Our sug-

gestion would be to use a good embroidery bobbin thread, because you don’t have tension issues with it when

embroidering, Or if you don’t have an embroidery bobbin thread, lower the upper tension.

Here are some inexpensive tricks our customers have shared, but we ourselves haven’t proven them.

One is to put the metallic thread in the freezer for 20 minutes. The idea being that it looses its memory, mak-

ing it less wiry. Another one was to take a needle and thread it through a packing peanut and then thread it

down through the machine like normal.

Project Class Rules

1. To sign-up for a class, you need to pay the class fee at least one week ahead.

To be refunded, please let us know the week ahead as well.

2.If there is not enough students for a class, we will refund your money.

3.You will need to pick up a supply list at our store for these classes.

4. If you buy class supplies from our store, we will give you 10% off those items.

5. You may use our machines for the projects.

Beginner’s Sewing Course Here would be an excellent summer project for girls or anyone else that would

love to be in on the fun of sewing. This is a different type of course in that you can pick

and choose which projects/classes suit or you are interested in taking. They don’t need to

be taken in any order because one class doesn’t build on another. And we picked projects

that together cover a lot of different techniques. We have two options available.

Take any 9 classes for $50 each and at the end you’ve bought a good, computerized $469 machine, the Baby

Lock Grace. And the $135 worth of training you get FREE! If you choose this route, you will get to sew on

Grace for classes.

The other option, if you already have a machine you can take any class for $15 each.

Beginner’s Quilting Class This class truly is designed for beginners. But our goal is that when you’re finished you not only have a

finished quilt, but also a confident beginning to the relaxing world of quilting. The size of our quilt would be

perfect baby size, but if you’ve had a touch of quilting experience, you are welcome to make it bigger. We

plan to cover how to use the rotary cutter and general piecing techniques. And the third class, we introduce

you to some of the different machine quilting techniques. And finally in the fourth class, put the binding on.
