We have special programs for children, teens and adults who would like to become Catholic or complete their Sacraments. Please call 856-983-0077.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR Congratulations to all who have been recently engaged! We invite you to consider a Church wedding (contrary to what you may have heard, Church weddings do not have to be BIG church weddings!). We would be honored to help you prepare for your wedding day. Please call the Parish Office (ask for Pat—856.983.0077) at your earliest convenience. Marriage prep in the Church is easier (and more fun) than you may think!

CONSIDERING A DESTINATION WEDDING? If you are considering a destination wedding, please give us a call to discuss available options to have your marriage blessed as one of the seven Sacraments. Even if you aren’t sure what the Sacrament of Marriage is all about, give us a call. We think you will be pleasantly surprised!

ALREADY CIVILLY MARRIED?

Or married in another faith tradition? We would love to talk to you about having your marriage blessed in the Catholic Church.

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION (during the time we cannot be present for Mass)

“My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You are already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.”

5th Sunday of Easter/2020

MY MOTHER THE NURSE GOSPEL JOHN 14:1-12 Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way.” Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.”

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

My mother, Jane, is a retired registered nurse. She and her twin sister, Janet, as well as their older sister, Leah, all went into nursing school together back in the 1950s. I guess that’s made me sort of partial to nurses. I am praying for them in a special way during this pandemic.

Nurses are persons of action. I watched my mom go into action many years ago when at our own kitchen table a neighbor’s toddler swallowed something she shouldn’t have and began to choke and turn blue. In a matter of seconds, my mother turned the little girl upside down and with one pop on the back the item popped out of the child’s mouth. This was the 1960s. I’ve seen her in action like that a number of times since then; even well after retirement and well into her 80s she has responded that quickly and that selflessly. That’s what nurses do.

That’s what Moms do, too, because that’s what love does. Love responds generously and selflessly.

Moms have to be nurses and teachers and guidance counselors and so many other things (too many to list!) often times while holding down another job outside of the house. Moms are the original heroes.

There was one thing my mother said she was not. “I’m not your maid,” she’d often remind us. That’s a good thing for all of us to remember. This Mother’s Day is unique because of the unique situation we find ourselves in. Let’s resolve never take our mothers for granted. Let’s thank them for all they do for us every day. And let’s pitch in and do our part to help, wholeheartedly, selflessly and generously.

Keep the Easter Joy! Fr. Rich

ON THIS UNIQUE MOTHER’S DAY...

… the Clergy, Religious and Staff of St. Joan of Arc wish all Mothers a happy and safe Mother’s Day. We pray for adopted and foster mothers, grandmothers and Godmothers, aunts and sisters and for all who shared a mother’s love with us.

We also recognize this day can be a source of sadness for many. We ask everyone to join us in prayer for mothers who lost children due to COVID-19, as well as to other diseases including addictions and also due to violence. We pray for all those who mourn their mother’s passing.

While praying for the good health of expectant mothers, we also keep in our prayers women hoping to conceive and for those who could not have children.

Holy Mary, the Mother of God and the Mother of the Church, pray for us!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION MINISTRY

Registration Open

by Mail Only Our mission is to help parents share the Catholic faith with their children through several methods of learning. We hope to bring these young people to a deeper relationship with God from the teachings and love of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.

Methods of learning:

•Traditional classroom: On Monday or Tuesday afternoons for Grades 1-5 and Monday or Tuesday evenings for Grades 6,7, and 8. This program runs from September until May.

•Home Study - Grades 3,4,5 and 6. This is for parents who cannot bring their child to the Monday or Tuesday classroom settings. The parent would teach the child at home one lesson per week. We also ask that your child attend three activities throughout the school year.

•Family Catechesis: - This program is offered to 1st and 2nd grade parents only. As a parent you will teach your child at home for three weeks with curriculum provided and then attend a class once a month in the evening with your child to reinforce what was taught at home. Both parent and child must attend this once a month class. Dates for once a month classes will be announced in July.

• Special Disciples - This is a classroom setting for those with special needs. Our catechists are certified to teach children with special needs and we have a one on one approach with the children. This program runs every other Sunday during the 9am Mass from October until April.

Please register for traditional classes as soon as possible as our Monday classes fill quickly.

Tuition : 1 child-$100, 2 children-$125

3+ children-$150

QUESTIONS TO SHARE

1) In what places and situations do you see the kindness of the Lord at work? How have you experienced that yourself?

2) Within your life, how do you exercise your “priesthood?”

3) Where have troubles entered your life and how did you turn them over to the Lord?

4) How do you interpret the words – “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places?”

The St. Joseph’s School in Medford, Class of 1970 is planning a 51st reunion. When the class of 1970 started 1st Grade in 1962, there were a number of St. Joan’s kids who started with us. Long after our graduation, St. Joseph’s was rechristened as the current St. Mary of the Lakes School. Our mission is to locate everyone from the Class of 1970. Please contact Maryann at [email protected] or call 856-816-8284 with any information you may have about the classmates of 1970.
