Oman Air takes delivery of first 787 Dreamliner

Oman Air has celebrated the delivery of the airline’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The airline ordered six 787-8s in November 2011 as part of its expansion plans. Boeing currently has eight 787 customers in the Middle East with a total of 175 Dreamliners ordered and 140 in backlog. Boeing has also been contracted by Oman Air for a suite of services to support the upcoming entry into service of its 787 Dreamliners and to ensure ongoing efficiency and cost savings for its fleet. These services will help Oman Air mini-mize the time and cost of maintenance while increasing airplane availability.

Bombardier C Series aircraft certification program over 90% complete

Bombardier’s all-new CS100 aircraft has suc-cessfully completed over 90% of the certifica-tion program and is now in the final stage of flight testing that will include a few weeks of function and reliability tests. Bombardier also confirmed that production ramp-up is under-way, including the first aircraft for launch op-erator SWISS.

Estonian Air takes delivery of two CRJ 700’s

In a transaction arranged by Skyworld Avia-tion, Estonian Air took delivery of two CRJ 700 aircraft. Serial number 10085 (ES-ACF) was delivered on October 2nd and serial number 10083 (ES-ACE) on October 9th. Both CRJ 700’s are already in service with the Estonian airline alongside three existing CRJ 900’s. The aircraft are owned by Regional One of the U.S. and have been placed on long term lease with Estonian Air direct from the previous lessee Lufthansa Cityline.

At the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) Annual General Assembly held in Berlin, Germany, Embraer released its market outlook for Europe and the Commonwealth of Inde-pendent States (CIS). The Company forecasts that these markets will demand 1,540 new aircraft deliveries in the 70 to 130-seat jet seg-ment (valued at some US$72bn at list prices) over the next 20 years. AIRCRAFT & ENGINE NEWS Airbus launches new Ultra-Long Range version of the A350-900

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has selected Airbus’ newly launched Ultra-Long Range version of the A350-900 for non-stop flights to the US. Under an amendment to the carrier’s existing order for 63 A350-900s, seven of the aircraft will now be delivered with an Ultra-Long Range capability for flights of up to 19 hours. In addition, the carrier has placed an additional order for four A350-900s, taking its total firm orders for the A350 XWB Family to 67. Optimized for non-stop flights to the US, the aircraft, designated A350-900ULR (Ultra-Long Range), will ‎in-clude a modified fuel system to increase the fuel carrying capacity, an increase in maximum take-off weight, plus aerodynamic improvements, enabling service to the US West Coast, as well as to New York. Representing a distance of some 8,700 nautical miles, the New York service will be the world’s longest commercial passenger route, with an expected flight time of up to 19 hours. Moreover, the unique flexibility offered by the A350 XWB allows operators to reconfigure their A350-900ULR to the standard long-haul A350-900 specification should they require it.

fleet growing from 740 to 1,560 units by 2034. The report points out that in Europe, the focus on long-haul premium passengers is now close to absolute which, in turn, reinforces the im-portance of jets in the 70 to 130-seat segment to feed international flights. Traditional full-ser-vice carriers restructured in order to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The poor financial performance is not the result of weak traf-fic growth or load factors since RPK (Revenue Passenger kilometers, which is a measure of the volume of passengers carried by an airline) growth was solid at 5.8% in 2014 and the aggre-gate load factor was over 80%. However, pricing power for European airlines has declined signif-icantly as supply has consistently outpaced de-mand. Yields have been decreasing 2% annually over the last 5 years. There is a further need for structural changes, business consolidation and

capacity management. Hub feeding and dif-ferentiation of services to attract business pas-sengers are options that will require right-sized aircraft in the 70 to 130-seat segment.

Lufthansa Technik offers advanced Cyclean engine wash

Lufthansa Technik is offering an advanced version of its Cyclean engine wash system. Based on the success of the first Cyclean version, Lufthansa Technik’s product engineering sector has further optimized the system. The temperature range has been significantly ex-tended in which Cyclean can now be used. The advanced system is operational up to a -10 degrees Celsius external air temperature compared to +5 degrees Celsius for the original version. To avoid the danger of water freezing below +5 Celsius which limited the use of Cyclean to date, the advanced Cyclean unit has been modified. The system now automati-cally adds a glycol mixture to the water jet. Depending on the outside temperature the user can select between different admixture programs. The new temperature limit of -10 degrees Celsius provides customers with a significantly larger flexibility for their engine washes, as they can now be executed in wintertime. The first advanced Cyclean system has been positioned at London-Heathrow and has already proven its operational readi-ness by performing regular engine washes. A second system has been deployed at Zurich airport, Switzerland, followed by a third system which will start performing wash services at Montréal-Trudeau, Canada in October. It is also planned to further extend the engine portfolio for the advanced Cyclean system to all popular engine types by the winter period 2016/2017 at the latest.

FL Technics ready to offer Airbus A330 maintenance

FL Technics, a global provider of tailor-made aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul ser-vices, has successfully completed the necessary theoretical and practical training for execu-tion of Airbus A330 maintenance. Having already purchased all the necessary equipment, the company is expecting to complete the certification by the end of 2015. “FL Technics estimates there are almost 150 Airbus A330 aircraft operated in Europe alone. Therefore, as maintenance of wide-body aircraft is not as seasonal as that of the narrow-bodies, the latest expansion of capabilities will allow the company to keep its current and upcoming facilities full all year round,” shares Zilvinas Lapinskas, the CEO of FL Technics. “We are confident that, in addition to the well-established narrow-body capabilities, the expanded list of our services will make us more visible, attractive and accessible not only to our clients in Europe and the CIS, but also customers in such rapidly developing markets as Asia.”

TRIGO Group has been awarded a contract by Airbus, and will provide comprehensive inspec-tion of aircraft cabin elements for the Pan-Eu-ropean aircraft manufacturer for the upcoming years. Due to the continuous technical and com-mercial improvement of air transport, as well as the liberalization of the aviation sector, key play-ers of aeronautics need to adapt themselves to a highly competitive business climate. In order to remain on the cutting edge, aircraft manufac-turers have to comply with zero-defect quality demands - not only from technical and safety as-pects, but also on the production and assembly of cosmetic parts. Airbus issued a tender which TRIGO Qualitaire, TRIGO Group’s Aerospace Business Line, has successfully competed in, and gained commission to deliver comprehensive quality control solutions to protect the conform-ity of Airbus’ cabin-assembly.
