From the Desk of Fr. Cicero
Dear Brothers and Sisters in
Christ,
The arrival of cold and flu
season raises concerns about some
liturgical practices. Serious,
especially contagious, illness is a
legitimate reason to stay home from Mass. In fact, if your illness
can be spread to others, please do stay home. The televised Mass
for shut-ins is available on cable and broadcast stations. Of course,
the Mass for shut-ins does not fulfill the Sunday obligation for
those who are capable of coming to Church. If you do come to
Mass with even the slightest runny nose, scratchy throat, or similar,
please refrain from receiving the Precious Blood. We receive the
fullness of Holy Communion in the Precious Body. Taking the
Blood of Christ is never required for the lay faithful. Also refrain
from shaking hands at the sign of peace when you are not well.
Alternate gestures or just the words “peace be with you” are
sufficient.
Please get to confession during this penitential season of
Advent. As always I hear confessions on Saturdays from 3:15 to
3:45 PM at St. Jude and the last Sunday of the month at 9:30 AM at
Our Lady of Lourdes. Extra confessions will be offered on
Saturday, December 8
th
after the 4:00 PM Mass and Sunday,
December 9
th
after the 11:30 AM Mass. You can also make an
appointment with me.
Please mark your calendars for next Sunday’s Lessons and
Carols featuring members of the St. Jude and Our Lady of Lourdes
choirs and a Christmas pageant by our CCD students. The program
will feature traditional Christmas Carols and Scripture readings.
Many thanks to the staff and volunteers who are organizing this.
May God bless you! Yours in Christ, Fr. Cicero
