Dear Community Montessori Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to a new school year! We are excited for your students to return or join us for the
first time! I hope you had a rejuvenating summer. We are proud to provide a public Montessori
education through the Boulder Valley School District. Our mission at Community Montessori is
to foster achievement and the joy of learning by providing a public Montessori education to a
diverse population of students in BVSD.
We have three new staff members with more to hire. Please welcome Camilia Schawel (Music),
Megan Leuthold (English Language Development), and Dani Rudkin (School Psychologist.)
Events and Info
1. You will receive an email from BVSD on Friday, August 12th, explaining how to view your
child’s teacher assignment. If you do not receive the email by 1:00 pm on August 12th, you
may call the main office at 720-561-3700. Please ONLY call the office if you are unable
to sign in through the parent portal to view.
2. We look forward to seeing new families at the picnic on Sunday, August 14th at 4 pm.
Please bring a dish to share and meet current parents and children.
3. The Meet and Greet is for students new to our school or their classroom. It is Tuesday,
August 16th at 3:30 pm.
4. Everyone is invited to the Watermelon Social on Tuesday the 16th from 4:00-5:00 pm.
5. School Supplies are purchased by the teachers. Please make your $40 donation by cash,

F R O M T H E P T A . . .
The Community Montessori Parent-Teacher Association welcomes you to the 2016-17 school year. As a PTA, parents
and teachers work collaboratively to support our children and our school through many events and volunteer
opportunities. Together we can ensure that each child reaches his or her fullest potential.
YOU are an essential part of the PTA. Whether you are new to Community Montessori or are a returning parent we would
love to have you involved. All are welcome and encouraged to attend any and all of our meetings and events. One goal
this year is to continue to strengthen the community part of Community Montessori, and we will be most successful if we
have the inspiration and input from a large and diverse group of families. Stay tuned for big and small ways to get
involved! Feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns, suggestions, or ideas. We look forward to working
together with you to support our school, all of our staff and teachers, and each other so our children will have the best
opportunity to grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually this year!
We look forward to seeing many familiar faces as well as meeting new families on Tuesday, August 16, at the Meet and
Greet (3:30 for families new to a classroom) in the classrooms and the Watermelon Social (4:00 to 5:00 for all families)
on the playground. Look for the PTA tables for an opportunity to ask questions, pick up no cost fundraising cards for
local grocery stores, sign up for the Trip Tracker program, donate to the Personal Giving Campaign, buy Spirit Wear, get
your fingerprints taken to volunteer at school, and more! Please bring your checkbook or credit card.
**A note about fingerprints: If you plan to volunteer at school this year, BVSD requires a background screening. There
is an annual option or a one-time option. For more information go to: http://bvsd.org/volunteer/pages/default.aspx To do
the one-time, fingerprint option on Tuesday, you must have a $40 check payable to BVSD plus a $10 service charge
payable to Al Martin. There is paperwork you can fill out in advance or complete it on Tuesday:

Save the date! Join Community Montessori families and friends for dinner at Chipotle at 29th Street Mall on September
22, 2016. A huge 50% of CM sales will be donated to our school, helping fund classroom budgets, a paraprofessional, a
library staff member, and other activities.

S C H O O L H O U R S 8:00 – 2:30
A R R I V A L – D E P A R T U R E P R O C E D U R E S 8:00 Start: Elementary: Elementary children should arrive and be in line a few minutes before 8:00. We suggest utilizing Gillaspie
and Yale curbs for elementary drop-off as well as the corner parking lot. This will free up the main parking lot for primary
families. Do not drop your child(ren) off in the parking lot. Elementary children may line up on the sidewalk between the
building and the playground, or the sidewalk along the fence adjacent to the parking lot. Parents are welcome to wait with
their children or elementary children may wait independently. There will not be supervision until the doors open. The
South and West doors will open a couple minutes before 8:00. Doors will close at 8:05. After 8:05, children will need to
come to the front of the school to get a late slip from the front office. We expect all elementary children to arrive on time
however so that lessons can begin and your student can be fully integrated into the classroom from the start.
Primary: Parents of primary children will park in the main lot. There are some reserved spots for primary parents. Please
park and escort your child to the bottom of the southeast ramp. There will be paraeducators waiting to greet your child and
help them enter the school and the classroom independently.
BVSD Busses: Busses will unload curbside in the front loop. Children will enter the school’s front door(s) and walk to
their classrooms.
11:30 Pick-Up: Parents will park in the main lot and come to meet their children at the southeast ramp. Children will be
waiting inside in the hallway until you arrive. Parents may gather along the two rails on each side of the ramp. There will
be two teachers who will meet parents at the door with clipboards to obtain your signature and connect you with your
child. We ask that you park bikes in bike racks to reduce congestion as children are being dismissed. We ask that you exit
the pick-up area as soon as you are with your child to reduce congestion in the pick-up area. We are fortunate to have our
grassy fields available for playing and socializing.
2:30 Pick-Up: Elementary: All elementary children will exit their outside classroom doors (both west facing and courtyard classrooms).
Teachers will not be supervising the playground, but will be stationed in their classrooms. Pulling up in the main parking
lot and having your child jump in your car is not an option as it slows traffic and is a safety concern. Please make
arrangements with your child in advance about where to meet or be at the classroom door a bit before 2:30 to greet your
child as he/she exits the classroom.
Primary: Parents will park and come to the southeast ramp. Children in kindergarten will be waiting for you on the
benches under the peace pole mural. Our youngest children will be waiting in the hall. Parents may gather along the two
rails on each side of the ramp. There will be two teachers who will meet parents at the door with clipboards to obtain your
signature and connect you with your child. We ask that you park bikes in bike racks to reduce congestion as children are
being dismissed. We ask that you exit the pick-up area as soon as you are with your child to reduce congestion in the pick-
up area. Please keep in mind that busses will be loading at this time along the front of the school. We need the sidewalks
clear so children can easily get to their busses. We are fortunate to have other areas for socializing on our fields and
playground.
Busses: Busses will load curbside in the front loop of the school. Kindergarten and preschool will line up and be escorted
to their busses. Elementary children will go straight to their busses from the classrooms.
Elementary SAC children go straight to SAC (after school-aged-care).
Elementary children go straight to after school classes (i.e. scouts, Spanish).
Primary children will be escorted to SAC or after school classes.
Late Procedures Primary children will be escorted to the office as soon as the first wave of children has been picked up
(approximately 2:35). Parents will come in to sign out the children. Please pick your child up on-time, so that teachers can
begin the meeting/planning portion of their day.
Please note: Families interested in using the space available for bus transportation may apply now. Applications are
online at bvsd.org/transportation, on the Community Montessori website or in the CM office. Students will not be able to
ride until they have been approved.
Please be sure to tell Denise, in the office, the route number your child is assigned to.
E M E R G E N C Y F O R M S Please complete the emergency form and turn it in to the office ASAP. This is our way to contact you in case of an
emergency regarding your child during the school day. Please access the Emergency Form on the website Emergency
Form Please type in the information, print it and bring it into the office.
A T T E N D A N C E We hope that you will help to convey the importance of school to your student by making every effort to have your child
to school every day and on time. If your child is going to be absent, please call our Attendance Line (720-561-5408) by
9:00 AM and leave a message (please do not use our regular line for attendance issues) or report your child’s absence
online at Report an Absence. If you know ahead of time that your child is going to be absent for more than one day,
please fill out a Pre-Arranged Absence form (available on the CM website Pre-Arranged Absence Form or in the office).
If your child is not in school and we have not heard from you, we will make every effort to contact you so that all students
are accounted for each day.
We would like to ask that special efforts are made to make sure every child is in school from September 28th
– October
12th
. These are the Official Pupil Count dates for Boulder Valley School District. Our school is funded according to
this count. The attendance of every student represents dollars during this count period.

Thank you for volunteering!
H E A L T H R O O M N E W S MEDICATION
If your child requires medication during school hours a Medication Administration Authorization Form must be
completed (available in the office or on-line at bvsd.org). A parent/guardian and physician must complete the form
prior to any doses being administered at school. This applies to all medications: prescribed, over the counter,
herbs, vitamin’s and topical medication. All medication must be delivered to the office by an adult in its original
package with the child’s name written on the product. If the medication is a prescription the prescription label
must be on the package. If possible, please administer medication at home. Under no circumstance may a child
carry medication to take at school on his/her own.
PHYSICAL AND IMMUNIZATION
All preschool students are required to have an annual physical within the first 30 days of school. Please deliver up
to date physicals to the office. If your child received immunizations over the summer, please bring the new form to
the office or fax them to me at 720.561.3701.
If you do not know if your child is in need of a physical or immunizations please [email protected] .
ILLNESS
Please be mindful of our community by keeping sick children home. Children with compromised immune systems,
elderly people, infants and pregnant women are in the building all day every day. Fever is not the only indicator of
illness. In order to keep everyone healthy, observe your child closely before you send him/her to school. Expect a
call if your child has a fever above 100 degrees, has vomiting and/or diarrhea, has extreme coughing, is not alert
enough to learn or has an unidentified rash. Keep your student home at the beginning of a cold; this is when they
are most contagious. Your child may return to school 24 hours after symptoms of fever, vomiting/diarrhea have
stopped without medication.
LICE
Yes, lice appear every year. Check your child’s head on a regular basis! The best way to avoid the little critters
appearing on your child’s head is to be proactive at home. Check your child’s head often. BVSD does not check
entire classrooms. If you are uncertain and would like me to check your child’s head, contact me.
HEALTH INSURANCE
Do you or someone you know need health insurance? Megan at Healthy Kids is a fantastic resource! Contact her at
720.515.1454 or [email protected].
