How do I choose?

• Post-16 Options are wide and varied.

• Choose very wisely and carefully and think about the following questions:

Which A-levels/BTECs/NVQs will motivate and inspire you?

In which A-levels/BTECs/NVQs will I succeed best?

Where do these A-levels/BTECs/NVQs lead?

Is the combination appropriate (What would a university admissions tutor/employer think of English Literature, English Language, Media Studies, and Theatre Studies?)

• What are employers looking for?

A levels

• AS and A levels offered by schools and colleges for 16-19 year olds.

• They’re highly valued by universities and employers and focus on academic subjects, although some are work-related.

• AS levels can be taken as a stand-alone qualification, or as the first part of an A level course.

• AS levels are completed at the end of Year 12. • A2 exams and coursework are added on to an AS level at

the end of Year 13, bringing it up to A level standard.

What to take?

• Some University courses will only accept specific subjects – research before you choose.

• Certain A levels give you more flexibility in course choice – do your background research.

• A levels are a big step up from GCSE. It’s important to study subjects you find interesting and motivated to learn.
