NOVEMBER, 2016 UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SUPERMILEAGE Team Dinner at Jerusalem Garden Supermileage had their first team dinner outside of the Wilson Student Team Project Center. Team dinner is a great way to bond outside of our regular work days and weekly meetings because we are able to talk to people we probably don’t see on a regular basis. Because the team is separated into subteams it’s hard to bond with new members from other subteams unless you work on a project together. In honor of Thanksgiving, we are all very thankful for all of our sponsors, the staff of the Wilson Student Team Project Center, and for all the members on the team who put in a lot of time and effort outside of their class work to make Supermileage the team that it is today. Electric Motor Subteam As told by Ryan Danko This month we finished our designs for our three new motor controller boards. These boards allow us to make reliable connections between all of our board components while minimizing space and weight. Unlike last years design, these new boards allow us to have two separate processors to control the motor. The first processor will take the throttle input from the driver along with other input commands and calculate the necessary power to provide the motor. second processor then takes this power input and directly controls the motor. With this new configuration, we can set, ramp up to, and maintain a given speed in miles per hour. This will greatly increase our vehicle fuel efficiency because we eliminate driver error.

Michigan Fiberglass Michigan Fiberglass is one of the few sponsors we have that doesn’t donate money but donates a service. They are a complete supplier of fiberglass and composite materials located in St. Clair Shores. They take the prepped molds we prepare and perform the carbon fiber layup for our bottom shell which includes adding foam core for structure and laying in the base plate. Thank you to Michigan Fiberglass for continuing to sponsor Supermileage and we will always appreciate your support.
