Andrews University Master Plan Berrien Springs, Michigan
In 2012, the Campus Planning Committee asked the School of Architecture to lead the effort of revising and updating the Campus Master Plan. With a team of 22 students and many professional collabo-rators, I was fortunate to be a part of the team and co-author the Master Plan.
This document deliberately integrates strategic plans, design guidelines, and visionary illustrations in order to provide a holistic overview of planning goals and issues at Andrews University.

The goal of this project was to provide a school and daycare for the community of Celebration that would be a unique learning environment with
connections to nature and the community.
The site location provided many challenges and also afforded unique
opportunities. The design and orientation of the campus was a
response to these challenges.
The Campus is split into three distinct learning environments:

A preliminary design for a trades school on the edge of campus. This includes classroom buildings, a wood, metals and auto shop as well as administration and dormitory buildings. All buildings were placed to create outdoor spaces andconnections.
Focus was on using local materials and labor while providing a place that would be interactive and long-lasting. Durability and earthquake-resistant structure were also important aspects in the design. Outdoor Zones

Mixed-Use Development Niles, Michigan
The project was to design a downtown block in Niles, Michigan that would revitalize the commercial and living opportunities. This includes a mixed-use building, a corner flex building and a set of rowhouses with a central courtyard for parking and service entries.
The architectural style reflects the local traditionalism that has been replaced with metal facades and unwelcoming entrances. The friendly brick facade uses both arches and proportioned windows so that the size is brought to a human scale.

BARODA INN BED & BREAKFAST
Baroda Inn & Agrotourism Destination Baroda, Michigan
The site includes a bed and breakfast, multi-unit housing and a restaurant. There was need for a community gathering space to showcase the area’s rich agriculture.
The style was conforming with existing patterns with a contemporary, landmark design for the restaurant. A curving metal facade overlooks the field and gardens. This effect is accented with laminate wood beams following the curve.
This site was located a block from the small downtown core so we addressed the urban fabric and continued the pedestrian connections throughout.

Structure Model
This project was designed to respond to three main ideas; locality, sustainability and flexibility. The design was based on connecting the homes to their surroundings through outdoor public and private gathering spaces and gardens.
Timber Frame Design Empire, Michigan
CONCEPT:
This beach house was inspired by the traditional arts and crafts style that is found on the shores of Lake Michigan. The floorplan is a four bent system with scissor trusses for a dynamic floor to ceiling space. Built-ins and multi-use areas allow for a personal but dynamic floorplan.
wHISPERING PINES COTTAGE Pine Lake, Alberta
A client desired for his cottage to stand out from the typical homes that
lined the street. Achieving this was done in part by simplifying the roofline
and creating an open porch on the upper floor. The open porch
maximizes the views towards the lake and provides an outdoor eating area for the family. The large amounts of glazing with the open-concept plan allows for dynamic natural lighting
throughout the day.

Sketches Europe Tour 2010
Here are a few sketches of European architecture that were created to study the different environments. This includes analysis of building form, urbanism, composition and architectural details.
As a class we spent time in both urban cities and rural landscapes. There was a focus on the traditional as well as the development of modern architecture.
