The International Peace Forum held last January 12, 2013, hosted by Zone 1 was a success. It was followed by a Peace Concert organized by PP Paul Ga- lang. PbP President Lina Sarmiento invited the District to join and our participation was coor- dinated by Secretary General Augie Soliman. I would like to thank those who woke up at 4:30am to join the rally. We definitely had a decent participation and I am sure Rotary's Public Image was enhanced. The 2nd Leg of the Ten Pin Bowling Tournament was another success. Thank you again RC Wack-Wack for making this leg another success and adds feather to your cap. It was held last January 12&19, 2013 at the Sta. Lucia Bowling Center. Finally, Cluster 3, headed by Lt. Governor Jojo Lorenzo, hosted the 3rd Presidents Meeting and Fellowship. RY 2012-2013 No. 07 January 2013 Issue

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Host Clubs of the different District-wide activities. The International Peace Forum held last January 12, 2013, hosted by Zone 1 was a success. It was followed by a Peace Concert organized by PP Paul Ga-lang.

RI District 3800 also joined the "Walk for SAFE Elections" last January 13, 2013 at the QC Memorial Circle organized by the Department of Interior and Local Government. PbP President Lina Sarmiento invited the District to join and our participation was coor-dinated by Secretary General Augie Soliman.

It was definitely well-organized, food was aplenty, raffle prizes exceeded the number of participants. Thank you all to the hard working and resourceful Assistant Governors and most specially to Lt. Gov. Jojo Lorenzo.

The practices for the Governor's Ball and Talent Night started last January 4 and the way I see it, we will have a grand Dis-trict Conference. I am encouraging all Rotarians and Spouses to attend so that you will enjoy the fellowship, entertainment, and inspir-ing messages of our DISCON Speakers.

The next two months will even be busier for us and we just have to remember "We Love Rotary".

Yours in Rotary Service,

Peace Builder Governor Lirio Sandoval

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Happy New Year to all. May we all have more resolve to continue being better Rotarians and bring joy to those who need us most.

January, for Rotary, is also the month when we assess what we have done the last six months and what we still have to do for the rest of the Rotary year. It is the time to look again at our strategic plan and schedule the implementation of our remaining projects to meet our set objectives.

It is in this context that we have requested all our Assistant Governors to revisit all Clubs in the District. They were instructed to help each club meet the Presidential Citation Award and likewise the different District Awards. As I have mentioned before, each club should be com-peting against it's own objectives rather than with the other clubs.

All Peace Builder Presidents should now focus on the completion of their reports so that they can easily comply with the mid-year review to be conducted by the Assistant Governors. Governor Lirio has already instructed all Assis-tant Governors through the Lt Governors, to assist all clubs for their mid-year review and in the accounting of the club accomplishments to ensure that those who are qualified for the awards, both from the district and from RI will be properly recognized during the Awards Night. Our District Governor would be happy to see all clubs receiving the RI Presidential Citation, as awarded by the RI President Sakuji Tanaka. Therefore, all Peace Builder Presidents are en-couraged to submit their completed Presidential Citation Forms to the District office before the deadline, March 31, 2013 and avoid rush.

We appeal to all Peace Builder Presidents , all District Officers and all Rotarians to please help us solicit spon-sors for our forthcoming District Conference ( DISCON 2013) . We also need more Souvenir Program advertisers and we hope that the allocation of each club for the paid advertisements can be submitted in the middle of February, for the printing of the ad materials. Please coordinate closely with the District office in order to avoid rush in the printing and to come up with good quality souvenir program.

November 16 to 18, 2012 at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia

ROTARY PHILIPPINES TOPS IN RLI MALAYSIA By PP Rollz Maningas, RC Caloocan Silangan

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) seminar was held at Sunway Hotel Resort and Spa, Selangor, Malaysia from Nov. 15 to 18, 2012. Six hundred twenty (620) delegates came from the Philippines thereby having the most number of at-tendees in the aforementioned RLI. This is indeed an honor for Zone 7A.

In the morning of Nov. 16, 2012, the Global Presidents’ families to-gether with the spouses went to Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The plenary started at 5pm and followed by the banquet party at-tended by the King and Queen of Malaysia. Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, 84, was king in the 1970s. Sultan Abdul became the first person to hold the position twice under Malaysia’s unique ro-tating monarchy. The Oxford-educated king is a lover of jazz, football, polo and golf. The king,

The RLI was a wonderful expe-rience for Rotarians and spouses. Among the issues discussed were TRF, polio eradication, literacy, water and other challenges faced by Rotarians.

As stated by Mehta, “Be ready to be touched by the warm hospi-tality of Malaysia in the quaint and quixotic, mystifying and modern, City Selangor. It is going to be a special moment for the hosts to take care of all our friends from Zones 6B, 7A and 10B and over-seas and make their stay memo-rable.” He made good his word.

In the morning of Nov. 18, 2012, PDG Jun Farcon gave words of gratitude to the Conven-or Mehta and other Rotarians who made the seminar worth remem-bering and truly a fruitful one. See you in the next RLI which will be held in Taipei, Taiwan.

known as Yang di-Pertuan Agong or “He Who Is Made Lord”, formally took office in a televised ceremony in the yellow carpet throne room of the new hilltop palace in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur. On the second day of the event, a series of sessions was held in different halls led by Convenor

Shekhar Mehta. In the evening, Windows of the World (WOW) In-ternational Night was held wherein different countries exhibited and showcased their ingenuity and proudly presented their rich history through their booths. Surprisingly, Philippines, headed by PDG Ed Alvarez with co-chair PDG Jun Far-con, won 1st runner-up. During the same event, two great dancers from the Philippines performed well in the dance floor by dancing the Bollywood. These are PDGL Dot Gancayco and PP Rollz Elan Man-ingas. It was indeed a momentous day for the RLI delegates. The Insti-tute Chairman, PDG R.T. Arasu, is a well-experienced Past District Governor.

Rotary Club of Pasig South

On the Go By Pres. Gilbert B. Magbutay

Children’s literacy has always been high on the priority list of Rotary Club of Pasig South and this is very evident with its Remedial Reading signature project which the club started this year in coopera-tion with the Corazon S. Atayde Memorial Founda-tion, Binhi Foundation, and Buting Elementary School.

The project runs for six months (but this usually extends to eight months due to class interruptions throughout the year), at the end of which the chil-dren shall gain reading and comprehension skills that will give them the confidence and edge to fin-ish their education. Parents and teachers are also given tools and tips to strengthen the child’s love for reading and stories, as well as boost their self-esteem. For the current year, 80 students of Buting Elementary School in Grades 2 and 3 were accept-ed intothe program and are undergoing one hour a day session at the end of their class. Corazon S. Atayde Memorial Foundation serves as the admin-istrator of the project while Binhi Foundation provid-ed the reading materials for the children.

To make the initiative a complete learning pro-cess starting Rotary Year 2012-2013, Rotary Club of Pasig South decided to conduct the project through a four-part series to include the parents of the children as well.

The first of the series was the Values Formation Seminar for the parents of children included in the Remedial Reading program and this was held at the multi-purpose hall of Buting Elementary School on November 28, 2012. A number of teachers of Buting Elementary School were also on hand dur-ing the seminar.

Officials of Rotary Club of Pasig South, led by President Gilbert B. Magbutay, were around during the activity. Past District Governor Ferdi Fuentes, Past District Governor Lady Minda Fuentes, and Past President Raymond Samson took turns in delivering the presentations.President Gilbert like-wise gave a short message and enjoined the par-ents and the teachers to be as involved with the project as possible to ensure that its objectives for the participating children are attained.

The seminar carried a theme: Mga Katangi-tanging Ugaling Filipino (Revered Filipino Values), and thus focused more on essential family, work-place, religious, and universal values and other key attributes of Filipinos.

The second to fourth series of the Remedial Reading program are slated on January 30, 2013, February 27, 2013, and March 16, 2013 which shall basically involved the participating children to the project along with their parents.

RC Pasig South (...continued from p.15)

100% Paul Harris Fellow Club Indicative of the profound generosity and heart of the members of the Rotary Club of Pasig South toward helping others, particular-ly those who are in need the most, the club was officially honored as a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club on January 8, 2013.

Named after Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary International, Paul Harris Fellow is a distinction accorded to a Rotarian who has contributed US$1,000 to the Annual Fund or approved program of The Rotary Foundation. Harris Fellows; and subsequently earning the distinction of being a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club. Also during the same regular meeting, RI District 3800 Governor Lirio P. Sandoval, RI District 3800 The Ro-tary Foundation Chairman Mac Hermoso, and District 3800 Annual Giving Chairman Manny Reyes officially handed the 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club banner to the Rotary Club of Pasig South led by its President Gilbert B. STORY TELLING AND FULL MEAL FEEDING SESSION

At RCMN-Early Childhood Day Care Center By Rtn. Bassie Cruz , RC Marikina North

The Rotary Club of Marikina North- Early Childhood Day Care Center in Baras, Rizal deserves to be called a milestone in the club’s community service projects. Apart from the usual literacy program, our

service project also includes feeding and story-telling sessions. On January 9, 2013, Rotarians conducted sto-ry-telling sessions aimed to entertain the children at the same time inculcate good moral values. The classroom was filled with glee as children enthusiastically listened. The story-telling was filled with fun and learning in a pro-ductive environment. The regular everyday full meal feeding session in cooperation with DSWD improved the children’s well being through proper nutrition. Truly, these are manifes-tations of our mission to develop the children to become happy and healthy individuals. In attendance were Pres. Edith, Rtn Bassie, Rtn Joy, Rtn Ruth, PPs Ike, Ilde, Ching and Ging.
