Dr. Lenworth Jacobs, director of the Trau-ma Program, has been elected to the American College of Surgeons Board of Regents.

The American College of Surgeons is a scien-tific and educational association of surgeons that was found-ed in 1913 to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. The College is governed by the Board of Regents.

Jacobs, a general surgeon, is professor of surgery and chairman of the Depart-ment of Traumatology and Emergency Medicine at UConn.

Dr. Bruce Browner, director of ortho-paedics, also serves on the ACS Board of Regents, and has entered the final year of his three-year term.

It is unusual and impressive for a hospital to have two of its clinical chiefs serving on the 22-member Board of Regents.

Thomas Marchozzi, exec-utive vice president and CFO of Hartford Health-Care, has been named Chief Financial Officer of the Year by the Hartford Business Journal. He was honored at a celebration Nov. 2 at the Belle Terrace at Avon Old Farms.

A full-page story in Hart-ford Business.com Nov. 7 began: “Marchozzi is a man with a mission, a plan to get there and a committed co-pilot in

the person of Hartford HealthCare CEO Elliot Jo-seph. Since they joined Hartford HealthCare in

2008, a year that system member Hartford Hospi-tal experienced an $8 mil-lion loss, the duo orches-trated a turnaround that resulted in a $20 million gain for the not-for-profit hospital.

“Marchozzi is now lead-ing Hartford HealthCare’s conversion to the new fi-nancial reimbursement models called for under the nationwide chang-es coming to health care services.”

Nurse practitioners are e x p e r t patient-centered clinicians, and the health care provider of choice for many people because of their unique combination of medical and nursing expertise and skills.

NPs diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and injuries; they order, perform, interpret and supervise diagnostic tests; and they prescribe medications and other treatments.

In addition, NPs partner with their patients, providing health education and counseling, guiding patients to make smarter health choices.

If you’re already seeing an NP, take a moment this week to say thanks. Visit www.npfinder.com to locate an NP in your area.
