Our Mission

The members of St. Joseph’s Parish believe that Jesus Christ is the focal point of a caring Christian Community. The mission of our Parish Family, therefore, is to create, maintain, nurture, and foster an

environment that will encourage us, and assist us in reaching our full potential through growth in the knowledge and image of Christ in every facet of our lives.

Challenged by life-long learning and affirmed by active participation, St. Joseph’s Parish Family proclaims boldly the Word of God, and with abounding joy celebrates the Holy Eucharist—the summit of Christian worship and spirituality—and through outreach, supports and ministers to the community at large.

Dear Parish Family,

T h i s w e e k e n d ’ s p a r a b l e immediately follows up last weekend’s story of the prodigal son and has a similar theme. The steward, like the prodigal son, was wasteful with the master’s property. However, unlike the prodigal son who in a great act of humi l i ty retu rned seek ing forgiveness, the steward held true

to his desires for financial security and quickly made deals with the master’s debtors (at the expense of the master) to ensure the steward’s own well-being. Another way of putting it is, the prodigal son accepted the fact he had done wrong and was willing to live with the consequences of his actions while the steward doubled down on his corruption and selfishness in order to preserve his own best interest. The prodigal son had an authentic moment of conversion. The steward is refusing to accept the consequences of his actions and is steadfast in his world view that blots out the supremacy of

God. Our Beloved Lord closes his teaching by stating no person can serve two masters and the lure of wealth, power and prestige are ones that can very easily ensnare the soul. As human

persons we necessarily need material items just to maintain our existence. We need food, water, shelter, medical care, etc. … but those items need to always be viewed as means and not ends. The items listed above and others like them are tools that we require to aid us in achieving our ultimate end which is the vision of God, Himself, in Heaven. God gave us our own individual talents and abilities for the betterment and growth of His kingdom and not the growth of our bank accounts.

As Participation Month continues, I want to thank all those ministries who have filled the gathering areas these past weekends. It is a true testament to the vibrant life of this Parish to see over the course of a month such a diversity of ministries and means by which all of us can grow more deeply in our love of Jesus through prayer and service.

Our annual Fall Festival is just around the corner and I encourage all of you to not only come out and enjoy the fun and fellowship of the day but to also volunteer. Even if all you can do is help for one hour your assistance is needed and appreciated.

God bless, Fr. Sebastian

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Our Church is much more than a mere building. It is a communion of life and love in Jesus, rooted in our weekly Sunday Eucharist. As partakers in our Eucharistic Lord, we are to share Jesus with one another through service,

outreach, accompaniment, and fellowship. Each weekend in September, several ministries will be stationed in the Gathering Area after Mass to welcome you and invite you to participate! We are blessed to have many vibrant ministries and there certainly is “something for everyone.”

· Homeless Outreach · Human Life and Dignity

· Parish Medical Mission · Prayer Blanket Ministry · Sacristan / Housekeeping

· Scouts BSA

(Cub Scouts and BSA Troop 473) · Stewardship Committee · Welcome C.R.H.P. Ministry

This weekend, the following ministries will be available and are waiting for you: Fellowship and Outreach

“For as in one body we have many parts, and all the parts do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ - and individually parts of one another.” --Rom 12:4-5

Did You Know? The Second Commandment calls us to revere and respect the name of God. Matthew’s Gospel gives us the clear words of Jesus: “You shall not swear falsely … But I say to you, Do not swear at all … Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or No.” This does not prevent us from taking oaths in a civil place, like court, but rather to not

frivolously use the name of the Lord in our daily lives. (CCC # 2142-2154)

(CCC # 2142-2154)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic Church? Are you answering a call to become Catholic but are not sure

how or where to begin? If you are, please consider attending the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The Catholic Church uses the RCIA Process to instruct and welcome new members. RCIA

provides instruction that covers all major aspects of the Catholic Faith, an opportunity to ask questions about the Faith, and a parish community who will support you on your journey. RCIA Meetings are on Sundays in the Marian Chapel of the Main Church from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. and includes participation in

the 10:00 a.m. Mass Liturgy of the Word.

New this year! Refresh Are you a confirmed Catholic who has questions about your faith? Would you like to be refreshed on major aspects of your faith? St. Joseph’s is offering the opportunity for any parishioner to

come and REFRESH his/her understanding of our Catholic Faith. The REFRESH group will join the RCIA catechumens and candidates on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. in the Marian Chapel of the Main Church to receive instruction about our Catholic Faith. Father John Sollee will be teaching many of these

classes. The REFRESH group will then be dismissed at 10:00 a.m. to give them the opportunity to attend the 10:00 a.m. Mass. The first meeting will begin on THIS Sunday, September 22.

To enroll in either RCIA or Refresh, or if you have

any questions, please contact Mike and Michelle Peters at michellecpeters @hotmail.com or 904-710-2508.

We are seeking individuals interested in sewing dresses, donating fabric or missionaries who can distribute the dresses to the needy. If interested, please call Melanie Carlson, parishioner at 885-7323.
