HELPING IN TIME OF NEEDIC ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETYSt. Lawrence Haven, which operates out of Holy Cross Catholic Church on Rich St., is a ministry of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and feeds 250-350 hungry people weekly, Monday through Thursday. For more than 10 years, the IC Society of St. Vincent de Paul has made 400 sandwiches for St. Lawrence Haven on the 4th Monday of each month. Your help in continuing our tradition of feeding the hungry during the COVID-19 crisis has been crucial. OPEN SHELTER MINISTRY MEALThe Open Shelter is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to Noon to serve the homeless. Due to COVID, we are donating hotdogs & buns, along with any donations, including fruit cups, desserts (like granola bars, etc.) lunch size chip bags, etc. There is a big need for the to-go containers, lunch bags and bottled water. If you would like to donate anything or make a donation in lieu of donating, arrangements can be made for no-touch pick up. The Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul – June 29, 2020

“Ss. Peter and Paul are the principal pillars of the Church founded by Christ. Peter was chosen by Christ to be his first Vicar on earth; he was endowed with powers of the keys of the kingdom of heaven (Mt. 16: 13-19) and charged with the role of Shepherd of Christ’s flock (Jn. 21: 15-17). In Peter and his successors, we have a visible sign of unity and communion in faith and charity. Divine grace led Peter to profess Christ’s divinity. St. Peter suffered martyrdom under Nero, in about the year 64 A.D. He was buried at the hill of the Vatican; recent excavations have revealed his tomb on the very site of St. Peter’s Basilica. Paul was chosen to form part of the apostolic college by Christ himself on the road to Damascus (Acts 9: 1-16). Selected to bring Christ’s name to all peoples (Acts 9: 15), he is the greatest missionary of all time, the advocate of pagans, the Apostle of the Gentiles. St. Paul was beheaded in the Tre Fontane along the Via Ostiense and buried nearby, on the site where the basilica bearing his name now stands. Excerpt from The Roman Missal The readings today mirror faithfulness, protection, conviction, and CREED. Both Ss. Peter and Paul were rescued by God from prison. Both were protected on their journeys by God when He sent His angels to help them. Both were convicted in their hearts by God’s truth, forgiveness, and love. And both were zealous believers in the person and message of Jesus Christ and proclaimed Christ crucified wherever they went. Jesus “asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?...Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God…”[Mt. 16: 13-19] Peter gave his Creed. St. Paul said; “…I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith…The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly Kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.”[2 Tim. 4: 6-8, 17-18] Paul gave his Creed. Thoughts to ponder: “What is your Creed? Do you believe what we profess at Sunday Mass, every day of the week? Who do You say that the Son of Man is? Do you know God’s faithfulness, protection, conviction, and His belief in you? Spend some time in prayer this week and talk to God about it.”
