Has initials and foundry coin.

The plaster of Paris model of this sculpture was purchased by Mrs. S Dowling in 1928 directly from the artist. It is believed to be a unique model which was never cast in bronze during the artists lifetime. The main difference between this work and the one executed for the Chamber of mines is the position of the right hand holding the hammer.

It was cast in bronze with permission of the University of Pretoria in 1982 with the condition that one of the twelve cast were given to the Van Wouw house at the university.
