Considers the varied nature of rural livelihood systems in developing countries. livelihood change, diversification and migrationinterconnectedness of the global and the local in causing change in rural societies. Explores the impact of different agents of change on livelihoods:non-governmental organisations, impact of modern biotechnology effects of trade on livelihoods. Draws primarily (though by no means exclusively) on evidence from Sub-Saharan Africa and India.
