The first meeting of the Dubois County Rural Broadband Committeewas on September 12, 2019 at the Dubois County CommunityFoundation. Jeff Warren and Ed Cole co-chair the committee. Byworking with a variety of community leaders and internet providers,the goal is to expand high speed internet services to underservedareas in Dubois County.

Senator Erin Houchin explained the Next Level ConnectionsBroadband Grant Program for internet providers was designed totarget areas in Indiana with no internet access in the first grantround. Second round was to target areas with internet speeds ofless than 10/1 Mbps. Third to target areas with less than 25/3Mbps.The first step is to conduct a Dubois County Rural Broadbandneeds assessment/study.  A completed study will help to apply forgrant funding.Potential sources of funding for the Rural Broadband study includethe Dubois County Community Foundation and Grow DuboisCounty.A Request for Proposal (RFQ) is being prepared to send topotential consulting firms which would be capable of performing acounty wide internet broadband study.

Neighborhood Assistance Program

WHAT IS NAP? The Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP),established by Indiana Code 6-3.1-9, offers $2.5 million in tax creditsannually for distribution by not-for-profit corporations. 

Grow Dubois County received $11,399 worth of tax credits from theNeighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) through the IndianaHousing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).

Donors will receive a 2019 Indiana State tax credit for 50% of thecontribution amount, reducing state income tax liability.A business or an individual taxpayer can “buy” as little as $100 toreceive a $50 state income tax credit.Donations are used to provide low income home buyers in DuboisCounty, down payment assistance.INTERESTED IN PURCHASING CREDITS?Contact [email protected]

The 2019 Tour of Opportunity for the ninth-grade classes of all fourDubois County school corporations took place on October 16th.Dubois Strong collaborated with VUJ, Hub 19 and Patoka Valley CTEon the daylong event. Around 550 students met with and toured,businesses which matched their previously selected career path.

The 2019 Southwest Indiana Ag Economic Summit was held onFriday, Nov. 8th at the VUJ, CTIM Building theatre. About sixty peoplewere in attendance. Guest speakers for the event included: ChristianBlome/Susan Brocksmith - Vincennes University Jasper, HansSchmitz - Purdue Extension, Jordan Seger - Indiana State Dept. ofAgriculture, Steve Howell/Ed Ebert - Allied Industry Affairs. Eventsponsors included Dubois County REC, Superior Ag, Hopf Equipmentand German American Bank.

The Mid-States Corridor Regional Development Authority (RDA) andthe Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) started a Tier 1Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), on June 6, 2019, which isrequired by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for majorconstruction projects that will include federal funding.

The Mid-States Corridor is anticipated to begin at the William H.Natcher Bridge crossing of the Ohio River near Rockport, continuegenerally through the Huntingburg and Jasper area and extendnorth to connect to Interstate 69.The Tier 1 EIS is expected to take just over two years to completewith a Record of Decision (ROD) expected in summer 2021. TheROD is the Federal Highway Administration’s final approval of thepreferred corridor.After a Tier 1 ROD, a more detailed Tier 2 environmental study willdetermine specific alignments and preferred alternatives within theselected Tier 1 corridor.The Mid-States Corridor has an office located on the VincennesUniversity Jasper Campus. The office is in the AdministrationBuilding, Room 216 and is open Monday, Wednesday and Fridayfrom 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, and by appointment.The project office can be contacted at 812-482-3116. Enterprise Loan Fund (ELF)

Provide your venture with the funding it deserves. Dubois Strong'sEnterprise Loan Fund (ELF) supports the retention and expansion ofcurrent businesses as well as establishing new business opportunitiesin Dubois County.

This loan program offers independent loans to eligible entrepreneursand small businesses as minimum "gap" financing to assist the local
