SchemeSchemeDear parents / Caregivers / Community
As a result of roll growth and discussions with the MOE, the Rukuhia School Board of Trustees are investigating the possibility of placing an enrollment scheme at Rukuhia school .
As part of the consultation process we would like to inform, and receive any feed back from our parents/ caregivers and the wider community regarding the proposed enrolment scheme.
In this pack you will find information about the home zone, the enrolment process, the ballot process, time line and what an enrolment scheme is all about.
Please read through the pack and if you have any questions contact the school and we will be more than happy to answer any questions.
Regards

What is an enrolment scheme? A means of limiting the roll to prevent overcrowding in
classrooms A way for the Ministry of Education to make best use of
resources across NZ A set of clearly defined boundaries A fair and transparent process
Why is Rukuhia School putting one in place? The Board of Trustees in consultation with the Ministry of
Education agree on the need for an enrollment scheme to be put in place to manage and avoid potential overcrowding in the future due to continuing roll growth and limited physical space.
Zoning A home zone with clearly defined boundaries. If your usual place of residence is within the home zone, you may
enrol at any time. When you enrol, the school may require proof of residence. If the school finds that you have given false information, the
school may refuse to enrol the student or annul the enrolment.
Living outside the home zone The School defines an enrolment period. If the school has capacity it may accept students from outside their zone. The school must advertise the availability of places and the application
process. 'Out of zone' students may then apply for enrolment. If there are more
applicants than places available, a ballot will be held.
Ballots A defined process set by the MOE
Priority will be given to:
(a) students accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school; (this category is not applicable to Rukuhia school, we do not run any special programs)
(b) brothers and sisters of current students;
(c) brothers and sisters of former students;
(d) children of board employees;
(e) all other students.
A ballot will only be held when the number of application for enrolments exceeds the number of spaces available.
If you are unsuccessful in the ballot Your name will be drawn You will be placed on a waiting list The school will advise you of your place on the list
Capacity
Capacity is defined by the number of spaces in each classroom A classroom is deemed full to out of zone students when it reaches this
number of spaces A classroom will always have space for students in zone
Time line
April – Discussions with MOE re the enrolment scheme
May/ June – Consultation with neighboring schools
June - Consultation with Parents/ Caregivers / Wider
Community
- Feedback from neighboring schools close
- Feedback from Parents/ Caregivers / Wider
Community received

Once the MOE have the proposed enrollment scheme and
feedback they then make a decision and inform the school
of their findings. ( we are unable to give an exact date for
this).
