Promised follow up from the March General Meeting

Gail Harmalof, self professed Dog Food Geek, from West Side Farm and Feed gave a

fabulous talk on Dog Food to our club at our last general meeting.

She broke down the facts.

What is more important the ingredients of the dog food or the trustworthiness of the company

producing the dog food?

Where is the food being processed?

Why is splitting of ingredients significant and why would a dog food producer do it? What is

meat meal?

What is rendered products from animal or poultry?

What is digest?

What is the difference between “animal fat” or “beef fat” or “chicken fat”?

There is no one dog food that is perfect for all dogs.

We need to educate ourselves and read labels.

When Gail has time in her busy schedule she will put her notes together for us to publish

in a future Ruff Notes issue. Watch for it as it will be well worth your time.

The Monterey Bay Dog Training Club Inc. has a time slot

reserved for 1:30PM on Friday, April 13th on

Santa Cruz Community TV.

Please join us with your dog at 1:15 PM in front of the building for a walk in and set up

in the studio. If you have done this before, you remember it's a LOT of fun and the people

running CTV love our dogs!

The address is 325 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95062. Closest cross street is

Dakota and Soquel. It is very close to Riverside Lighting which is across the street. There

is a parking lot in front of the building and also behind it.

Our 10 minutes to fame will talk about the upcoming Morris Animal Foundation walk on

May 19th, the Agility Trial on June 16 and 17th, the 4th of July participation in the

World's Smallest Parade in Aptos, the Obedience and Rally Trial on

July 28th and our really fun event, the Halloween and Demonstra-

tion of well behaved dogs at Sunshine Villa in Santa Cruz.

UPCOMING…..

NOTICE OF BOARD RECOMMENDATION: The board recommendation to move Awards Banquet (aka Christmas Party) from winter

to spring will be voted at the May General meeting. Below are some of the considerations in the Board’s recommendation.

Much Easier to book a restaurant banquet room for an evening reservation.

Reducing MB’s activities during holiday to just Two Tuesday December workshops.

No Nov-Dec scores left dangling for a whole year !

Allows members to accumulate scores toward titles from Jan 1 to Dec 31st.

More time to collect and processes information and prepare awards.

Increased Participation by selecting a time free of other local events and Sunday religious obligations.

More free time for family activities and other holiday obligations.

MORRIS ANIMAL FOUNDATION LOCAL WALK AND MEETING..

MAY 19th, our annual MAF walk will take place in Capitola and Watsonville, with lunch Meeting at the BURGER! patio in

Aptos. More luncheon information forthcoming from Barbara Skaggs. We start the day at the Capitola garage parking area around

10AM. Sooo.. Try to line up some nice donations from family and friends to support MAF’s ongoing research in animal maladies and

most particularly Golden Retriever Cancer Research.

JUST PASSED…. On March 25th Lynn Schmitt, Secretary, Luane Vidak, Chm, Michael Bashista, D/MT led a pack of members and friends of

MBDTC on MB’s annual VST TEST. Among the Helpers were: Dale Noble, Kami & Rod Mowbray, Barbara Skaggs, Barbara Adcock,

Debi Best, Candice McLaren, Donna Lane and Joyce Finch’s flock of Happy Hens. Our judges were Ann Hershey and Rita Crawford.

No Passes to match last year’s accomplishment…

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST!! When invited to join the Board of Directors for the upcoming year, please accept. You

would be chosen because you are needed and you have a lot to offer that will assure that our club continues to be the best at what it

does!
