Additional Measures of Interest

• Truck Timers – Timers for engine block heaters to avoid running them all night.– Susie Snyder at Oregon Trail has been

recommending this to her members and is interested in seeing a measure developed.

– Any experience with this measure?– Would the S/R Subcommittee be interested in

developing a measure?• Other measures of interest to small/rural

utilities?

EE 102• During the Efficiency Exchange, some S/R utilities indicated that they

needed to provide more education to their residential customers.• Benton REA has had success with 1-2 hour “Conservation Classes”

for residential customers to review EE measures available to them• BPA has developed information sheets for many of their residential

measures that could be used for “Conservation Classes”.• http://www.bpa.gov/EE/Sectors/Residential/Pages/default.aspx• Promotional Material - Partner One Sheets

– DHP Partner One Sheet– Res Weatherization Partner One Sheet

• Bonneville can customize these materials for utility branding – contact Carolyn VanWinkle at BPA, email: [email protected]

• Question: What are the measures to focus on first? Let’s discuss.

Market Transformation Lag• Market transformation in small/rural markets often lags behind larger

markets– Social and market dynamics that drive market transformation may not be as

robust in small/rural areas– Stock of inefficient products can linger in small/rural markets well past a

federal standard’s effective date or other wide-scale adoption of efficient products larger markets

• As a result, measures may be deactivated by the RTF (and then BPA) to reflect larger markets, but S/R markets may just be ramping up

• Is this a topic that the S/R Subcommittee would like to discuss further?– Characterize the issue– Discuss methods for reducing lag– Discuss methods for keeping incentives in place

• RTF PAC will be discussing this issue on May 15 – your input in advance of that meeting would be helpful.

Barriers to EE at S/R Utilities• S/R Subcommittee has expressed interest in this topic

– Sentiment that success for S/R utilities may depend more on reducing barriers to existing measures and programs than finding new ones

• S/R Chairs would like to organize a special S/R meeting on this topic

• But we need your help!– Topics

• Identification of barriers• How to S/R utilities can mitigate barriers• How to regional organizations can mitigate barriers• Other?

– Invitees– Help preparing for the meeting

2015 Workplan• Reminder: S/R Subcommittee has $30,000 budgeted in the

2015 RTF work plan. Possible application:– New measure development– Scoping study to identify new measures– Follow-up work on S/R Barriers– Other
