B) SUB-BASE MATERIAL

CRUSHER FINESSpecifications: 3/8" minusDepth: 4"Amount Needed: Approximately 50 lbs per sq. ft.Sold by the Ton: 2,000 lbs = 1 ton

CRUSHER FINES, also known as Stone Dust, Stone Screenings, Lime Stone, Squeegee, Reclaim, Red Diamond, Coral Rock, etc. CRUSHER FINES is rock that is finely crushed and screened, with no pieces larger than 3/8 inch. The majority of the material should be a fine powder or dust and the remaining material flat and jagged. In many cases you may not be able to find the exact properties just described. If all the material is the same size and very fine, this will work. To be sure you are getting the correct product, ask your local rock quarry if it compacts well and if it will smooth out if wet and rolled with a hand roller. If you need assistance, we would be happy to call your local rock quarry or sand and gravel company.

STEP 1. OVERVIEW

Typically the width of a Tee-Line will be 6’ in width and any length, generally over 80’. So let’s assume you have a Tee Line area that is 6’ x 100’. You would have ordered a 12’ x 50’ piece of RT990 PLUS (12' wide). You'll need to cut the 12' x 50' turf piece in half, lengthwise, leaving you with two, 6' x 50' turf pieces.

These two pieces are laid out over the prepared base area and seamed together using the provided seam tape and seam adhesive.

NOTE: Installing RT990-PLUS over CONCRETE is an alternative to the base construction shown in these instructions. You can skip the steps about the sub-base and Airfield Panels if your base is concrete.

STEP 2. SUB-BASE INSTALLATION

First, and most importantly, plan ahead for drainage that will exit off the top of the Tee-Line since water sheets drains off the top. You may need to slightly slope or dig a trench(es) along the edges. In the event a trench is needed, such as negative drainage into the Tee-Line or heavy annual rainfall in your area, use a perforated pipe and fill with drainage rock.

Dig or cut out a 4" cavity where the Tee-Line Turf is to be installed. If the soil is not too rocky or hard, you can do this with a sod-cutter.

Add landscape fabric directly over the excavated soil and pin the edges, just enough to keep the fabric in place. Next, add the crusher fines one layer at a time and level each layer with your landscape rake. Compact the CRUSHER FINES in stages and compact with a Vibrating Plate Compactor. Don’t worry about how smooth it is at this point. Slightly wet the CRUSHER FINES each time you compact. You should compact the fines for every 2" of CRUSHER FINES you add! Bring the crusher fines level to the ground. You must have at least a 4” depthwhen finished

Next, take your screed board and pull across the entire length of the Tee-Line area a couple of times to ensure the surface is flat. Wet the surface and compact one more time with your gas powered vibrating plate compactor.

Now run the screed board over the surface one more time. Fill your water-filled hand roller FULL with water and roll across a slightly damp sub-base several times. Be sure not to twist the roller when turning as this will cause damage to the sub-base. Make gradual turns with the roller.

STEP 3. AIRFIELD PANEL INSTALLATION

A typical Tee-Line is 6' wide, or 72". Start at end of the Tee-Line and lay down 2 panels and then center them. The Airfield Panels are 32" x 32" so 2 connected to each totals 64". If centered properly, this leaves 4" of void

on each side. The 4" will be filled with more crusher fines and slope towards the edges.

Stake the edges and the inside four corners with the supplied 7" aluminum stakes. You should have a total of 4 stakes on each 32" x 32" panel. Notice the 4 stakes in the center (bottom left). These stakes will secure 4 panels in the middle. Now stake the edges on the outside panels.

Now that the Airfield Panels are securely in place, add more crusher fines over the top of the panels and spread with your landscape rake as shown below.

Now broom over the surface so that it looks like the photo on the upper right.

Add crusher fines to the 4" voided areas on the edges, and slop down. Compact the edges with a hand tamper.

STEP 4. TURF INSTALLATION

Again, typically the width of Tee-Line will be 6’ in width and any length, generally over 80’. So let’s assume you have a Tee-Line area that is 6’ x 100’. You would have ordered a 12’ x 50’ piece of RT990-PLUS, cut it in half, lengthwise, leaving you with two 6’ x 50’ pieces, and then adjoining those two pieces length wise with a 6’ seam.

Position the two pieces of turf on top of the completed sub-base as close together as possible. Pull each side back about 3' or 4' feet back away from the seam area. Using a straight edge and new blade in your utility knife, cut each piece on the back side of the turf MAKING SURE THE CUTS ARE SQUARE! One way to ensure the cuts are square is to perform the "3 - 4 - 5 Rule to Build Square Corners." http://www.wikihow.com/Use-the-3-4-5-Rule-to-Build-Square-Corners

After the cut is made perform a “Mock Seam” by butting the two turf pieces together so that they are precisely touching one another. Now, rollback the two pieces of turf about 4 feet, face down as you did when you cut the edges. Take a piece of ProGreen seam tape and unroll it the length of the seam, directly down the middle of the seam area. Apply the adhesive down the center of the seam tape about 3” wide. Use a trowel or putty knife to spread the adhesive. Trowel the adhesive over the center part of the seam tape, leaving about a 4” – 5” wide path. BE SURE THERE ARE NO VOIDS IN ADHESIVE IN THE SEAM SPOT, FOR 3" WIDE.

Roll one of the pieces into the VERY CENTER OF THE SEAM TAPE where there are no voids in adhesive. The remaining piece of turf is rolled back differently. One person holds back one of the turf while the other person, whom we'll call the "seamer" is at the other end and slowly adjoins the two pieces of turf together.

The turf backing on both pieces turf should be very, very close to touching for a good seam, BUT NOT OVERLAPPING! When the seam is complete, walk up and down the seam. In the event any adhesive comes in contact with the fibers, clean it off as soon as possible. This can be removed with Goof Off™.

The final step is inserting the 7" stakes around the border. The stakes should be inserted 1' apart, around the entire border. Before pounding each stake all the way down, stop when the head touches the top of the turf fibers and then pull the fibers away from the stake and slowly pound the stake all the way in. This prevents the fibers being buried by the head of the stake.

Clean up the site, place a tee in the turf, and bombs away! Hit'em long and straight! If you have any questions, be sure to call us! Thanks for purchasing the best Tee-Line turf in the world from ProGreen!
