WHAT WILL THE CLASS LOOK LIKE?General Rules

• Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.

• Listen and follow all instructions the first time they are given.

• No food is permitted in the wood shop. Drinksmust be in a sealed container (i.e. no pop cans)

• Vandalism of student or school property is strictly prohibited.

• Electronics are not permitted in the shop, especially when working with or near any tool or machinery.

• You must ask permission before leaving the classroom.

WHAT WILL THE CLASS LOOK LIKE?Consequences

• Lates – Three strike system• Behavior Issue – Warning, Removal from class and/or referral*.

• Safety Issue – Removal from class and Referral*.

*Any referral issued you will be required to complete a letter of apology that needs to signed by the teacher, The Principal, and a Parent or Guardian.

**In addition, all violation will also result in shop dutyto be served during Lunch!

Substitute TeacherIn the event I am away, my TOC will be made aware of these expectations…an I expect you to follow them to even higher Standard.

Please be aware SD19 is small and there are is really only ONE TOC to cover shop classes. While I make every effort to get this TOC, sometimes they are not available…If this happens you are not allowed to use the machines in the shop...and will likely end up doing theory that day!

Assessment & Evaluation

How will you be graded?

You will graded through a variety of ways in this course:

•Observations•Assignments, Quizzes, & Tests• Tasks•Projects•Reflection & Peer Assessments

How will you be graded?IN this course your grade will be based upon your ability and competency level. You will be graded on a 5 point scale:

• 1 – Inadequate• 2 – Developing• 3 – Satisfactory• 4 – Proficient• 5 - Excellent

*Projects will also have a bonus system based upon the perceived level of difficulty

What will you Graded on?

Myth:as long as you build a project(s) I will

pass…incorrect!

You can actually build lots of projects and not pass or convesrely you could build no projects and pass

with an ‘A’!

What will you Graded on?From the BC Ministry of Education this what you are expected to learn and demonstrate in this course:

ü The Importance of woodwork in historical and cultural contexts, locally and throughout Canada.

ü The Identification, characteristics, properties, and uses of wood from various tree species.

ü Techniques for adjusting plans and drawings and/or creation of plans and drawings.

What will you be Graded on?From the BC Ministry of Education this what you are expected to learn and demonstrate in this course:

ü Choices for planning, drawing, and constructing a project

ü Woodworking techniques and traditional and non-traditional joinery.

ü Woodworking techniques using a variety of

tools and equipment, including stationary

power equipment.

ü Issues in the sustainable use of wood.
