transmitter ID and transmitter type you want toemulate.

2. Select the "Next" button to display the "Transmit-ter Emulation" screen. This screen allows you tomake adjustments to the analog signal and turnon/off the digital points for the RI-4. If an RT-R oran RT-U is selected, you are only offered theoption of changing °F or °C.

3. If desired, pre-adjust the “Analog Inputs” signalsby placing the PDA stylus on the slider (T1-T4).Move the slider right to increase or left todecrease the analog value. All analog values onthe RI-4 are in percentage (0% to 100%). Valuesare in °F or °C for RT-R’s and RT-U’s.

4. If desired, pre-select an “ON” or “OFF” conditionfor each of the “Digital Inputs” (T1-T4) by tappingon the desired point.

5. Tap the “Transmit” button to begin transmitting tothe receiver for verification. A small transmittingicon should appear, indicating successful trans-mission. If transmission is unsuccessful, a pop-Archive

PDA Help: In the upper right hand corner of mostdisplay screens is the icon “i”. Tapping on this iconwill display helpful information pertaining to the cur-rent screen on the PDA. The Kele RF SystemMonitoring (KRSM) program monitors any transmit-ter in a system, including Kele Frontier RR repeaters. It operates as an Enhanced Survey Tool (RST-K)Receiver.

IMPORTANT: Transmitters and receivers that arecommunicating with each other (including the RPT)must have a minimum distance of 3 feet between eachother. If there is less than a 3-foot distance, the trans-mitter may overpower the receiver, resulting in faultyoperation of the receiver.

The Kele RF System Monitoring (KRSM) monitorsany transmitter in a system, including Kele Frontierrepeaters. It also operates as an enhanced KeleFrontier Survey Tool receiver (RST-K) to monitor thefollowing:

• Throughput• Signal strength (SS)• Signal to noise (SN) levels• Battery condition of transmitters

Be sure to have the following close by before youbegin monitoring the Kele Frontier RF system:

• Kele Frontier Field Survey Tool Transmitter(RST-T)If you choose to use the RPT’s EnhancedSurvey Tool to monitor the Frontier Systemfunctions, you will need an RST-T Field SurveyTool Transmitter. To buy/borrow an RST-T, callKele.

• Programming SheetsProgramming sheets show how your Frontiertransmitters, receivers, and repeaters are pro-grammed. They include important information, such as facility codes, transmitter IDs, repeaterIDs, and transmission intervals. These sheetsare included in the shipment of your Frontierproducts. If you cannot locate your program-ming sheets, call Kele.

• DatasheetsDatasheets are included in the shipment ofyour Frontier transmitters, receivers, andrepeaters. You can also download them fromwww.kele.com.

No programming cables are required when operatingthe KRSM program.

To begin programming, you must first enter the facil-ity code of your Frontier system.

The facility code, in most cases, is a common identi-fication number used by all Frontier transmitters, receivers, and repeaters that communicate with eachother in a given application. All Frontier units within afacility use the same facility code number. The num-ber has either been assigned by Kele or by theinstaller of the Frontier system.

The facility code and transmitter ID are typically fac-tory programmed. A label is affixed to each Frontierunit to identify the Facility Code and Transmitter ID.See Appendix C as a guide to reading these labels

To enter the facility code:1. Select the KRSM icon from the main menu of the

PDA.

3. Select a value for “% Throughput” by tapping onthe current displayed value and selecting fromthe pop-up screen.

Note: Throughput is the probability (in a percentage)that the transmitted signal will be received by areceiver or repeater at any given time. The“Good Signal Indicator” under “Signal Analy-sis” will light on the PDA when the incomingsignal is at or higher than the Thresholdentered here. The Threshold defaults to 95%.This means that at least 95% of transmittedsignals must be received for the area beingsurveyed to light the Good Signal Indicator. This value can be changed to any value from90% up to 99%. It is not recommended to setthis value lower than 95%.

4. A signal-to-noise check can be added to qualify the signal. Enabling the box to the left of “Re-quired Signal/Noise>18 db” will require the sig-nals to have a mid-range Signal-To-Noise Ratio,in addition to the required Throughput. If en-abled, both the Required Signal/Noise and theThroughput must be satisfied before the GoodSignal Indicator will light.

Note: In some ways, the signal-to-noise check isredundant of the throughput. A high value ofthroughput has more importance than a high

5. Select “Receive.” An animated iconwill appear to show it’s receiving.

6. Place the RST-T at the location where the per-manent transmitter/repeater is to be located.Walk to the desired placement for the receiver. Atthe same time, monitor the “Enhanced SurveyTool Receiver” screen.

The current signal condition will display under“Signal Analysis.” The “Good Signal Indicator” willhighlight if the signal meets the “Throughput”percentage value and, if enabled, the “RequiredSignal/Noise” value above 18 db.

Values under “Signal Analysis” will be displayedas the signal is received. The Throughput, Signal(strength), and Signal/Noise will be filled in nomatter what values they are. Only the “GoodSignal Indicator” identifies if the signal is good(highlighted) or bad.

7. Select “Stop,” and then “Back” to return to themain KRSM menu.

CAUTION: All RF reception rates vary due to site con-ditions, the number of transmitters, and transmit times.Under normal conditions, Kele Frontier reception ratesvary from 95% to 99.9%. This fact precludes the useof RF products in time-critical control loop applica-tions. RF products should be considered only for mon-itoring and overriding non-critical applications. RF sys-tems are prohibited in life safety applications, hospi-tals, or other locations in which cell phones and two-way radios are prohibited.Archive
