Orientation Concept of density

Teacher recall back the concept of density and by asking students why some objects are float in liquid while other objects are sinking.

Students answer because of density.

Students is asked:Why some objects are float in water and why other are sink?

Expected answer:Because of density

Brainstorming of idea

Relationship between density and the ability to float

Teacher put the lump of plasticine into the basin.

Teacher asks students why the plasticine is sinks?

Teacher asks students to take plasticine, water and plastic basin.

Students observe what happen to the lump of plasticine.

Students response the teacher’s questions. answer

Students try to mould the lump into some shape.

the lump of plasticine is sink into the water.

Expected answer:because of the plasticine is denser than water.

Page 2: RPH asignmet 1

Teacher asks students to modify the lump of plasticine to make it floats.

Students try so many times until they found the suitable shape that can floats on the surface of water.

Students are expected to finally found the shape of boat of plasticine can float on the surface water.

Structuring of idea

Relationship between density and the ability to float

The density of an object can be changed by chancing its volume

Teacher asks students to recognize which shapes that can make the plasticine float.

Teacher asks every students to make a model of boat from the plasticine and make it float on the water.

Teacher asks students to discuss and discover why the model boat shape can float on water despite having the same mass with the lump of plasticine.

Students recognize that the boat shape of plasticine can float on the surface of water.

Students follow the teacher’s instruction.

Students discuss the reason why the model boat shape can float on water.

All the students make model boat from the plasticine.

Students expected to found the reason by using concept of density and discover that the volume has changed.

Application of idea

Application of the concept of density in daily life

Teacher asks students to give examples the use of the concept of density in daily life.

Teacher shows a video about a hot air balloon event in Putrajaya. Teacher asks students how the concept of density applied.

Teacher gives other examples the use of density in daily life by showing PowerPoint and photos.

Students discuss the use of the concept of density in daily life.

Students discuss the concept of density in hot air balloon.

Students learns use of density in daily life

Students are expected to give some examples like ships and logs transportation.

Expected answers:When the air in the balloon is heated, it become less dense than the surrounding air, hence the balloon will rise.

Closure/Reflection

Assessment Teacher asks students randomly about density and its application.

Teacher gives PBS worksheet to students.

Students answer the questions.

Students do the PBS test.
