Royal Russell Junior School
Bulletin14th September 2018
Dear Parents,
Year 6 have just arrived back safe, sound and exhausted from their trip to the Isle of Wight. Having followed them on Twitter all week
I’m not sure who had more fun, staff or pupils. Mrs King celebrated her birthday, Mr Ward and Mr Edwards tried to emulate The Hoff,
Miss Frisby captured more spiders than an arachnophobic should ever have to see and Mrs Cane dispensed more first aid than St
John at a music festival. Thank you to the staff for giving up their time and to the children for making the trip such great fun. Back to
real work now Year 6, not just ‘team’ work.
Mr Footring packed the Hall on Monday evening to talk about E Safety and if you missed the excellent presentation this week or last
then all the slides are available on the parent portal.
Tomorrow we are hosting a large U11 football festival here at school and we have two teams entering to try and bring home some
silverware. Matches start at 9.00am on North Pitch and all support is welcome. Good luck to all those playing and my thanks to staff
and 1st XI players who are running the event.
Further into the bulletin you will see all our classes this year and three slides about events happening this coming week on Friday and
Saturday. Please pay close attention to the details and we look forward to a bumper denim themed harvest on Friday and a sunny
Open Day on Saturday.
Year 4 are also off on the inaugural residential trip on Tuesday and I’m sure there will be lots of exciting news next week from the trip
to Flatford Mill.
Please don’t forget we have whole school photo on Monday and so it is time to brush the hair, polish the shoes and make sure the best
smiles are ready for the camera.
Best wishes for the weekend.

BowlesYear 5 started this term with an incredible three-day residential trip to Bowles!
The children enjoyed a vast range of exciting activities including archery, raft building, rock climbing and skiing. They also practised some very important life skills such as bed-making and cleaning which we're sure they will want to continue
working on now they are back home.
Well done Year 5 for all of your many achievements over the course of our trip!

Computing Club
This week in Computing Club the children learned to make 8-bit GIFs
using a website called Piskel. Great fun was had by all, especially as we were
using our brand new smart Chromebooks!

Jeans for Genes Day - Friday 21st
September
Friday 21st September will be 'Jeans for
Genes Day' and as per usual, we are
inviting the whole school to don their
denim to help support the half a million
children in the UK who are affected by a
life-altering genetic disorder.
If your child would like to support this
brilliant cause, they may wear jeans with
their school uniform on their top half and
school shoes on Friday. To support the
charity, we ask that they bring in a
minimum donation of £1 on this day.
To find out more about Jeans for Genes
day, you can visit
www.jeansforgenesday.org.
Saturday 22nd September‘Open Morning’ 8.30am – 1pm
It is expected that all Upper Junior Pupils will be available to support Open Morning and any requests for absence should be submitted by email to Mr Thompson well in advance.
All pupils in Year 6 will be required to act as guides for our visitors on the day. All Year 3 will be involved in Football and Netball festivals and Years 4 and 5 will be taking part in activities in school as well as supplementing the guiding of prospective parents.
This is a very important day for us to ‘showcase’ the school and having the pupils involved in that process has proved to be a resounding success. It provides prospective parents with an honest view of the school and offers our pupils the opportunity to take on an important role of responsibility for the morning.
We are always on the lookout for parent ambassadors to help on the morning of the event with refreshments and chatting with prospective parents.
If you are able to help please email [email protected].
