Well all good things must come to an
end, and the end is the AGM on the 10th
August. It has been my pleasure to serve
as your President for the past 3 years and
boy has it gone quickly.
My involvement with many organizations
over the years has confirmed to me how
well the RQAS runs on a day to day basis.
Processes that have been implemented in
past years have laid down a standard that
future Committees have strived to imple-
ment.
I am not sure that all members realize and
appreciate the status of being a Member of
such a fine Society. The fact that your art-
work can be displayed in such a profes-
sional manner in a wonderful environment
for a month at a time is something that is
not available to any other Artist within our
region and well beyond.
The strength of the Society is within its
members, your commitment to support its
activities is the only way that it will main-
tain the standards set.
We are at a point that the Society must
look for non-traditional Art and focus on
the more contemporary and modern, (but
still maintain the traditional ), we must
involve new young members that will take
on the challenges that will arise through
competition from other forward thinking
organizations.
But most of all don’t lose the fun that is
part of the Society.
My three years as President has allowed
Margaret and I to meet and become per-
sonally acquainted to so many people and
I am sure that friendship will be maintained
for years to come.
The Committee Members that have served
over the three years have had one goal and
that is to advance the Society through effi-
ciencies and good governance. My thanks
go out to them for a job well done
I once belonged to an Aero Club that had a
non-flying President, he was aptly named
the Emu, and not quite sure what a non-artist
President of an Art Society would be called.
I think this has been to my benefit and given
me the opportunity to look at the Society
from a different perspective. I hope it has
worked.
I feel I am stepping down from a financially
sound and well run organization, the future
is now in the hands of a newly elected Man-
agement Committee and Committee mem-
bers plus the Society Members themselves. I
hope to be involved in some way to serve
the Society that I have much admiration for.
Thank you for your support and friend-
ship, you are all so talented no matter
what level you feel, or wish to aspire
President…..Bob

dents who took out awards as well.
The BIG Art Awards were a big suc-
cess and sales have already started.
The night itself could not have been any better. The violinist was fantas-tic and most entertaining, playing to more than150 who attended on the night. Boy ! What a dress it was
that she was wearing.
To all the Sponsors
A Big THANK YOU
Margaret, our President’s wife has just come through real major back
surgery, and when I say major, I
mean major. She is now looking for-
ward to going home as I’m sure any-
one would after being in hospital for
so long. I’m sure you all RQAS mem-
bers wish her well. The paint brushes
are waiting for you Margaret.

I started painting in 1966 and,
since that time, have painted over
600 paintings.
I have given paintings to family
members for display in their
homes and donated a number to
charities as fund raisers.
During my school days I was al-
ways keen on drawing in pencil
and pastels and can recall that
many times my teacher
would send me around
with my work to show
adjoining classes. I
was keen on art, story
writing and acting.
When I began painting I attended
art classes in Melbourne with a
very successful mature artist and
learned to paint in oils.
I continued in oils until I moved
to the Gold Coast with my hus-
band in 1986. We moved from
Melbourne because he was ap-
pointed as CEO of Palm Meadows
(the first Japanese Golf Course
and Residential project).
I joined the RQAS in 2004 and
participated in Water Colour
classes run by Annette Raff. This
was a completely new experience.
It was very hard for me to realise
that I had to ‘let the water do the
work’ rather than the
brush. However, I loved
watercolours and earned
Honourable Mentions and
even First Prizes at some of
the art shows I entered.
I also ventured into acrylics and
have continued to use the three
mediums. My paintings cover
Australian countryside, beaches,
portraits, still life and, my absolute
favourite - architectural buildings.
These include European Street-

scapes, Australian outback (old
farm houses, country hotels),
Terrace houses, etc.
These interests have stayed with
me although I have spent the
last 20 or so years in Journal-
ism, Marketing and Hospital
management. I am currently the
Chair of Rotary Oceania Medical
Aid for Children for my Rotary
District and editor of three differ-
ent Newsletters.
I really value my membership of
the RQAS and the talented art-
ists who are members. I enjoy
the opening functions and min-
gling with so many friends with
like interests. And I particularly
thank President Bob and all the
Committee Members who give
their time so generously.

A BIG WELCOME TO YOU ALL
An Induction Course is conducted every Change-
Over Saturday at 10.30am so as new members can
learn the running of the gallery. The opening and
closing procedure and also the taking of monies.
Of course any member who wish to catch up with any
new procedures and also make sure the other proce-
dures that they know are still correct, can attend this
course as well. Things change from time to time so if
you are an older member, don’t be afraid to sit in.
This was a com-
pletely new ex-
perience. It was
very hard for me
to realise that
The Annual General Meeting
AGM Will be held on Sunday 10th August-10.30 for 11am
As you all know by now our ’Constitution’ does not allow a President to have any longer than three
consecutive years at the helm, and so unfortunately Bob can not be nominated again this year for the
Presidency. I hope you have all been talking amongst yourselves as to your nominations. After all it is your society. Bob Rennie has been an excel-
lent President, I’m sure this you will all agree. All positions on the Committee will become vacant and if more than one nomination has been put for-
ward for a position, then a vote will be taken. You know those famous words: THINK NOT WHAT YOUR SOCIETY CAN DO FOR YOU,--- THINK WHAT
YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR SOCIETY If you feel that you would like to hold a position,
don’t be afraid to be nominated. Put your hand UP. I know this notice is early but clear your commit-
ments for this day. I WOULD URGE ALL MEMBERS who can attend the AGM, to do so. Be informed of what is happening. You may have some valuable input. Nomination forms are available at the desk.
After the AGM and Members meeting we will have a Sausage Sizzle with drinks to thank Bob for his three great years that he has put in for our Society and welcome the new
President and Committee
