This factsheet looks at Royal Mail employment in Scotland. In 2012 just two of the 73 parliamentary constituencies accountedfor more than one fifth (21%) of jobs in Scotland. On average there are around 190 jobs per constituency.
Change in level of employees
Over the last four years, employment has fallen from 15,500 in 2009 to 13,900 by 2012 a decline of 10.3%.

Royal Mail in Scotland
All figures shown cover the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) 2007 53.1 “Postal activities under universal service obligation”. This includes sorting, processing and delivering mail (parcels and letters). Some Post Office activities will be included in this definition.

This map shows the number of Royal Mail jobs for every thousand people living in each parliamentary constituency in 2012.
Across the parliamentary constituencies there is an average of 27 jobs per thousand people. The highest concentration of jobs were in the constituencies of Edinburgh Western (199 jobs for every thousand people) and Glasgow Maryhill and Springburn (163 jobs for every thousand people).
