Developed at the University of Manitoba by Drs. John Walker and Bill Remphrey. Commercialized by Jeffries Nurseries Ltd. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Hardiness: Zone 2 (Canadian and USDA) _________________________________________________________________________________________ Growth Rate: A large, multi-stemmed shrub reaching a mature height of 20’ (6 m) and width of 15’ (5 m). _________________________________________________________________________________________ Description: Royal Crown was named for its attractive foliage that turns a reddish- purple in the fall. More importantly specimens of this cultivar produce 3-5 equal main stems that can easily be trained into a specimen. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Culture: Performs best in moderate to full sunshine. Royal Crown is tolerant of alkaline soils with pH reading of 8.0. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Pest and Disease: No specific problems. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Landscape Value: Amur Maple is a popular species in the landscape throughout zones 2 and 3. In areas with high soil pH, chlorosis can be a growth-limiting factor.
