I concluded the most effective location for communicating the theatres off-stage activities was the theatres bar. This lead me to researching low-cost methods I could use in the bar environment. I settled on drink coasters as this can be produced at low-cost. This is a promotional strategy the theatre could use for all purposes in the future.

I decided the most effective location to communicate with the theatre audience was the theatre bar. A place where people will go when waiting for a play to begin. The people I aimed the design at were the people waiting at the table whilst their partner was buying them a drink. This is a few minutes when that person is looking for a distraction, for something to read.

Contextual research meant me focussing on a wide variation of drink coasters. Through looking at these coasters, and back at the brief, I realised that a low cost option is the most appropriate response. Using low cost printing will allow for greater amounts of meaningful communication in the future.

I developed typographic represntations of the seven factors I learnt the theatre offered through my research. These typographic illustrations were to become the focus of the drink coasters I would be designing. The information about the theatre will be communicated to the theatre-going audience through the use of drink coasters in the theatre bar. This means of communciation is low cost and highly effective.

I hand lettered each of these typographic icons. Not relying on the use of existing typefaces gave me more freedom in the final design outcome.

The seven drink coasters and one front coaster design. Which will be on the reverse side of all the coasters. I used black and white to reduce the costs, as the brief stated a tight budget needed to be taken into consideration. Thank you for reading my submission boards.
