A fixture in the VictoryHeights neighbourhood isdressed up for May Day– with a little help from hisfriends.

Neda Murray reportsthat her daughter’s deco-rative pig Harvey is onceagain dolled up for MayDay, although he’s sport-ing a different look than inthe past.

In previous years, ownerHeather Winnichuk hasdressed up her cement pigas a May Queen.

“He is a Royal Engineer. He has the anvil in front ofhim,” Murray said of thisyear’s outfit. “He is sea-sonal. He gets dressed forevery occasion. You knowwhat May means in NewWestminster.”

Winnichuk said neigh-bours Bill and LynnRadbourne get the creditfor this year’s outfit.

“They put this together, and they created this amaz-ing anvil,” Winnichuk said.“He’s not an easy pig to fit. It’s awesome. He’s pretty

cute, I have to say.”May Day is one of the

premier events during theannual Hyack Festival inNew Westminster.

The Radbournes are bigsupporters of the HyackFestival Association, withBill being its current presi-dent and Lynn serving ascoordinator of its ambas-sador program.

Winnichuk said it “takesthe pressure off me” whenother people offer to dressHarvey for various occa-sions.

This was the fourth timesomeone has offered todress the pig, which hasbecome a bit of a neigh-bourhood attraction.

“It’s a parade,” Murraysaid. “Everybody and hisdog stops to look.”

Winnichuk has actual-ly met people who, uponlearning she lives in VictoryHeights, have asked if shelives near “the pig house”in the neighbourhood.

Winnichuk has beenoutfitting Harvey in vari-ous costumes since herhusband bought her thepig as a gift a number ofyears ago.

“It puts a smile on somany people’s faces,”Murray said. “She thinks itis well worth it.”

Around this time of year, we often liketo remind readers about the importanceof road safety during busy holiday week-ends or the importance of campfire safetywhile out enjoying the wildsof B.C. – seasonal safety issuesthat can all too often have hor-rifying consequences.

But we’ve never spent muchtime talking about the danger of win-dows – until now.

Last summer, in the space of just a fewweeks, there were more than 10 reported

incidents of children falling from win-dows in B.C.

Here in New Westminster, withinhours of each other, two children fell

out of windows – one fromthe third floor of a home andone from the eighth floor ofan apartment building. Thefirst child survived with rela-

tively minor injuries; the second, tragic-ally, died. That same month, in nearbyBurnaby, a five-year-old boy pushedthrough a screen on the third floor of his

home – he also fortunately survived.Last year, there were about twice as

many falls out of windows by childrencompared to the normal provincial aver-age. But frankly, any at all is too many.

The B.C. Children’s Hospital and theB.C. Ambulance Service recently issueda warning to parents about this veryreal risk, which increases as the weatherwarms because people are more apt toopen windows and leave them unattend-ed.

Dr. Ash Singhal of the B.C. Children’s

Hospital trauma program says falls aremore likely for children aged one to six,and the injuries can be severe – brokenlimbs, facial trauma, head injuries oreven death.

In the heat of the summer, it can beeasy to forget that a window has beenpropped open, but it’s vital that peoplesecure doors and windows. Don’t rely onscreens to hold back children, and neverunderestimate the ability of a toddler tofigure out a latch.

Their lives just might depend on it.

Liquor changes raisepuzzling questions

One of the more puzzling,if not downright suspi-cious, moves by the B.C.

Liberal government is its out-the-blue insistence on privatizingthe Liquor Distribution Branch.

It has led to speculationthat other major changes to theprovince’s liquor policies areon the way – potentially pavingthe way for raising the price ofbooze and perhaps closing somegovernment liquor stores as well.

Whenever a governmentappears to be in its dying daysand its politicians start tinkeringwith liquor policies, my politi-cal antennae starts quivering.Mixing politics and liquor canbe a potent recipe for disaster(remember the Knight Street pubscandal?).

The government has yet toprovide any business case forprivatizing the LDB. The NDP’scritic, Shane Simpson, has askedrepeatedly in the legislaturefor any details supporting thesale but has been rebuffed bythe minister responsible, RichColeman, at every turn.

The privatization schemeappears rushed, without muchthought given to the ramifica-tions. Coleman has admitted the

decision to sell the branch wasonly made a week before theFebruary budget was tabled.

The original sell-off datewas sometime in 2015, but thathas suddenly been moved upto March 2013 (just before thescheduled provincial election).

And last week the branch’sgeneral manager told industryreps there is no time for con-sultation because of the “tighttimelines” involved. Why theurgency? The government won’tsay.

I’ve talked to private industryrepresentatives, who fear theirdistribution costs will increaseif a private company beginsrunning things instead of thegovernment. Naturally, thoseincreased costs will be passedonto consumers.

The industry looks at what’sgoing in Alberta when it comesto liquor policies, and shudders.A prominent brewer in this prov-ince – Matt Phillips, founder ofPhillips Brewing Co. – says hepays almost twice as high a dis-tribution cost for a case of beerin Alberta compared to his costin B.C. ($1.53 versus just 78 centsin B.C.).

Further clouding the issue isthe public impression that oneparticular company may be thefrontrunner in the bidding pro-cess for the LDB. The company,Exel Logistics, employs twoprominent B.C. Liberal insidersas its lobbyists.

One of those lobbyists,Patrick Kinsella, is a former

OUR VIEWTHE RECORD

Elizabeth Fry project welcomedDear Editor,

We have been Sapperton residents for 24 years, living on Kelly Street, and we are in favour of theproposed Elizabeth Fry rezoning of 273 and 275Sherbrooke St. from residential low density to majorinstitutional.

We believe the new project design on Kelly Streetwill enhance the livability of Sapperton and thatit will not lower property values. The amendmentto the official community plan is necessary for thisvaluable project to go ahead; it is a one-time-onlyamendment for the benefit of this social service soci-ety (not a commercial business) and will not affectthe security of residential housing on SherbrookeStreet.

The availability of more child care and non-mar-ket housing is essential to every community planand is in keeping with the city’s affordable housing,child-care and livable city strategies. It is essential

that there be numerous child-care and affordablehousing options available in our city for vulnerablesingle women and children in need. The proposeddesign and landscaping of this project is in keepingwith the neighbourhood’s character and will be anattractive addition.

Elizabeth Fry has been a good neighbour. It hasshown by having adjusted the project design tomeet community concerns that it will continue to beso in the future.

The New Westminster Police Service has no issuewith this project moving forward. As Elizabeth Fryhas indicated, the clients who use this facility arenot dangerous. The women who occasionally smokeoutside the building are not ogres and are friendlyenough if you take the time to say a neighbourly“hello” when walking by.

We would like Sapperton to be a welcoming andinclusive community, and we support the comple-tion of this project.

More to the bridge storyDear Editor,

With all due respect to Christina Myers(Confessions from a Pattullo commuter, InMy Opinion, The Record, May 16), there isa lot more at stake over the bridge issuethan just commuting from North Surrey toBurnaby. As I see it, there are three com-ponents to this question: 1. Commutingto/from Vancouver and Burnaby to Southof Fraser. 2. Transport of goods, e.g. trucktraffic. 3. Local traffic (sort of what Ms.Myers does, but also local shopping, visit-ing, etc.)

We have to ask ourselves: what modesserve each of these best? 1. Commuting. Most commuters are point-to-point tripsthat can be done efficiently by transit if it isconveniently located. 2. Goods. It is just aseasy to put containers on railcars or bargesas on trucks (possibly at some sacrificeof speed over the trip distance). 3. Local.Individual vehicles, whether electric, gasor pedal-powered, are most useful here.

Now TransLink seems focused ona six-lane bridge, mainly because theyhave already brought the so-called SouthFraser Perimeter Road to the Scott Road/King George area at the south end of thePattullo. Such truck traffic is for movingcontainers from Delta Port inland, avoid-ing Vancouver.

This new bridge would then carry thetrucks into New West and (mainly) onBrunette to Highway 1, whence onward toCPR at Pitt Meadows container yard, or to

CNR at Port Mann.Once this massive bridge is in place,

commuters and local users are free to useit (unless tolled, which is a separate discus-sion) in addition to the truck traffic. So thisis all very well as far as it goes, but if wego back to the three original components, there are other ways of dealing with theseneeds.

The existing bridge could be rebuilt toextend its life another half-century or sofor $200 million, says TransLink. OK, dothat and reduce it to two lanes plus bike/walking paths on each side. That takes careof 3. the local needs.

Build another bridge upstream ordownstream, say four lanes, which canhandle some truck and commuting (1 and2 above). And put in place more railwaycapacity to carry the container traffic. Oreven consider barging the cans up river.

While we’re at it, there will be a redun-dant Port Mann Bridge soon. Why can’t itbe reinstalled to connect the new PrinceEdward Street overpass in Coquitlam toKing George Highway in Surrey? Theyspent millions on it a few years ago, add-ing a lane and fixing it up; money other-wise wasted.

TransLink tells us that 450,000 vehiclesa day go through New Westminster now. What will it be like with a six-lane cross-ing?

Let’s think about what can be done inother ways before we let them stampedeus into this monster!

campaign chair for theB.C. Liberal party and wasa key adviser on PremierChristy Clark’s leader-ship campaign. A leaked2009 internal corporatememo from Exel (obtainedby Business in Vancouver)shows the company thinksit could “influence thewriting of the requestfor proposal” in the bid-ding process by using its“strong relationship” withColeman.

Coleman has heatedlydenied any favouritism inthe bidding process but,as they say in politics, the“optics” here are brutal. If the B.C. Liberals haddetected the same situationoccurring under the NDPgovernment of the 1990s,they would have gone bal-listic.

Of further concernis the fact that Exel alsooperates the distribu-tion system in Alberta.

Industry representatives inthis province characterizeAlberta’s system as a cha-otic mess that is driving upprices.

The bidding processalso proposes that govern-ment liquor stores havestand-alone profit and lossreporting, instead of thecurrent collective report-ing. Since some stores areconsiderably more profit-able than others, this couldpotentially lead to the clo-sure of some stores and theopening of more privatestores (which, of course, pay their employees lessthan what can be earned ingovernment stores).

There are rumours inthe industry that otherchanges are coming aswell. The old issue of“dual licences” has resur-faced (this would allowpretty well any restaurantto turn into a bar at, say,9 p.m.), and with it comesworries about a prolif-

eration of liquor outlets, which not only greatlyexpands the availabilityof alcohol but also makessustaining a decent busi-ness in that industry thatmuch more difficult.

Add it all up, and youhave an industry thataffects a huge number ofBritish Columbians poten-tially getting hammeredby major changes – andall with no consultation orexplanation forthcoming.

Throw in the presenceof two key Liberal insid-ers involved in a potentialmultimillion-dollar dealwith huge political rami-fications, and alarm bellsstart to go off.

The NDP’s Simpsonsays he smells a rat here.He may well be right.

Keep a close eye on thisone, folks. Things may getugly before it’s all over.

The replacement JohnRobson Elementary schoolbeing built on the formerSaint Mary’s Hospital sitewill mean minor changesfor school catchments, according to the NewWestminster school dis-trict.

Sandra Pace, the dis-trict’s director of instruc-tion/learning services, toldThe Record that studentswho live at Victoria Hill (onthe former Woodlands site)will feed to the new Robsonschool. Currently, thosestudents attend McBrideElementary school.

“Obviously the kids whogo to McBride now andtheir siblings are grandfa-thered in,” Pace said.

The Lord KelvinElementary catchmentboundary will shift slight-ly from Fourth Avenue toThird Avenue.

“We pushed that a lit-tle further south becausea) Kelvin is going to berelatively empty, and b)because that way the kidsdon’t have to walk so far,”Pace explained.

Kelvin’s enrolment willgo down once the newmiddle school is built onthe current Robson site.

Herbert SpencerElementary’s catchmentwill be “unchanged,” Pacesaid.

Enrolment at the sought-after Queen’s Park schoolwill drop in the comingyears and be in the 80 percent capacity range, Pacenoted. The new Robsonschool will be built toaccommodate 550 students,a bump up from the origi-nal estimate of 350.

“So the immediate ques-tionbecomescanit (Robson)keep its French immersion, and that’s certainly an inter-

est for Canadian Parents forFrench,” Pace said. “Againthere’s a whole chunk ofwork to do around that.We have to be sure thatthe Victoria Hill can beaccommodated and Frenchimmersion and the growthbelow Royal, which is notinconsiderable.”

The Education Ministryincreased the new Robson’scapacity “because the min-istry has decided that overtime our district is continu-ing to grow,” Pace said.

The ministry is show-ing foresight in recognizing

New Westminster’s landrestraints, she said.

“It’s not like in Surrey. We can’t say well, wait fiveor 10 years and see if thatdevelops and then you cango ahead and build there. In five or 10 years we mightneed that space, but there’snot going to be anotherschool site because we arebounded.”

The ministry said con-struction on the replace-ment Robson should beginin the fall. The school isexpected to open in early2014.

Catchment changes comingDistrict plans:Sandra Pace, the district’sdirector ofinstruction andlearning servic-es, says therewill be someminor changesto catchmentareas thanks tonew school.

Trustee Lisa Graham wants the board ofeducation to reconsider its decision to moveearly French immersion out of John RobsonElementary when the new school is built onthe former Saint Mary’s Hospital site.

The school district had planned to movethe program to Lord Kelvin Elementarywhen a replacement Robson is constructedand a new middle school is built on the for-mer Robson site. Graham believes Frenchimmersion should stay at the downtownschool.

“I’m listening to the parents, looking atthe current facts before us, and it’s some-thing that I’d like to revisit with the board,”she said.

The local chapter of Canadian Parentsfor French also wants to keep the programat Robson.

The board decided to push the Frenchimmersion program based on 2010 projects, which have changed, Graham said.

“The full day-K (kindergarten), forinstance, has dramatically changed enrol-ment in the district,” she said. “(Richard)McBride at the time was going to be easilyable to absorb Hume Park (Elementary) …looking at it today, it’s not possible.”

She was slated to raise the motion at theTuesday night board of education meeting(after Record deadlines).

– Niki Hope

district focus on earlylearners has overshadowedthe needs and supportsrequired to assist and sup-port senior students, spe-cifically in numeracy,” shewrote.

Whiteaker called for aparent representative tohave input on the district’sachievement contract – adocument that school dis-tricts must send to theMinistry of Education eachyear.

Whiteaker attended atleast two school districtmeetings recently, advo-cating on behalf of parentswho are concerned about ahigh-failure rate in a mathclass at the high school.

In her letter, Whiteaker is

critical of the district’s han-dling of parent complaintsand noted the strained rela-tions between the districtand parents.

Lisa Chao, one of twoparents who raised themath concerns, said theissue and the district’shandling of it speaks to abroader “cultural” problemin the school district. Thedistrict continually told herand other parents that itwas looking into their con-cerns, but there has beenno “discernible” difference, she said.

“This has been an ongo-ing problem for years,”Chao added. “Everybodyknew, from the mathdepartment head all theway up to the ministry, yet

when a parent comes toadvocate for their children, they are dismissed.”

The district did bump upthe grades for students inChao’s child’s Foundationof Math 11 class this year, but the move didn’t appeasethe parents.

Chao recently receivedmath data from the district– after she filed a freedomof information requested– and she was shocked bythe failure rates in certainclasses going back years.

Superintendent JohnWoudzia didn’t want tocomment on this story, butrather wants to sit downwith The Record and discussmath marks. The Record willprovide a follow-up storyon the issue.

The New Westminster school district isconsidering forming a committee to con-sider the implications of chang-ing school calendars.

School trustees voted unan-imously at a recent committeemeeting to recommend the boardof education establish a commit-tee of parents, teachers, supportstaff, principals and trustees toexamine the school calendar andto report back its findings by nextFebruary.

“I think it’s an opportunity tolook at things that have come upover the past year or two,” saidboard of education chair James Janzen.

“People have been interested in a two-week spring break, and there’s quite abit of interest out there around having ashorter summer break, and (there’s) lotsof educational research to show that thatmight be beneficial.”

The Liberal government introduced

a bill last month to change the SchoolAct, allowing school boards to extendthe school year over the course of 12months.

The bill doesn’t force school districts toprovide year-round schooling or changethe number of instructional hours, but itdoes allow school boards to change theschedule if they chose.

The Canadian Union of PublicEmployees opposes any changes to theschool calendar and recently passed an

emergency motion opposinga government bill that wouldeliminate the September-to-June calendar and allow schooldistricts to offer year-roundschooling.

The delegates to the CUPEB.C. said the bill to eliminate thestandard school calendar is notinnovation aimed at improv-ing public education, but ratheris a cost-cutting measure thatwould negatively impact themost vulnerable students, who

have weaker school attachment. It would place added burdens on

families already having problems gettingadequate and affordable child care andincrease pressure on CUPE staff, accord-ing to the union.

The Vagabond Players are step-ping back in time for their season-ending production.

Terence Rattigan’s classic dramaThe Winslow Boy is onstage at theBernie Legge Theatre from May 31to June 23.

The play is set in the years leadingup to the First World War, tracing the

story of the Winslow family. While toasting his daughter

Catherine’s engagement, ArthurWinslow learns that the Royal NavalAcademy has expelled his son,Ronnie, for stealing.

But the boy insists he is innocent, and the family decides to pursuejustice through the Military Courtof Appeals and then Parliament –with the help of brilliant barrister SirRobert Morton.

The real-life father-and-son teamof Mike and Adrian Jones take on the

roles of Arthur and Ronnie Winslow, and Gina Raye Young stars as thesister whose engagement is throwninto jeopardy by the furor surround-ing the case.

Chris Fofonoff plays her fiancé,John, and Gavin Leclaire appears asthe barrister.

The cast also includes Nancy Ebert,Kris Michaleski, Rob Stover, AlisonMain-Tourneur, Isabel Mendenhalland Rob Larsen.

It’s directed by Johnny Duncan. The show plays Thursdays

Local talent is frontand centre in the lat-est Arts Club Theatre

production at the StanleyTheatre.

Cole Porter’s HighSociety opened May 10 andcontinues until June 24.

Local residents willrecognize the delight-ful Lauren Bowler as LizImbrie. Bowler – who co-owns the Great Wall TeaCo. at New Westminster’sRiver Market – providessome of the most thought-ful acting and touchingsinging of the night, par-ticularly with her emotionalrendition of He’s a RightGuy.

Another local stand-out is Burnaby’s SteveMaddock as GeorgeKittredge, the stolid fiancéof wealthy socialite Tracy

Lord (Jennifer Lines)– who may or may not losehis betrothed to either herdapper ex-husband DexterHaven (Todd Talbot) orthe reporter Mike Connor(Daniel Arnold).

Maddock’s alwaysstellar vocal chops are inevidence throughout theshow – most particularlyin I Worship You, when hisgolden baritone fills thetheatre.

They’re joined by a castof faces, both familiar andnew, who do justice to alight and sparkling produc-tion.

Talbot, in particular, continues to provide whyhe’s one of Vancouver’sfavourite song-and-dancemen, as his Dexter charmshis way into pretty mucheveryone’s hearts.

Another treat comesfrom Norman Browning’sdelightfully drunken UncleWillie.

But it’s the youngestcast member – teenagenewcomer Bridget Esleras Tracy’s younger sister,Dinah – who steals theshow, with a combination

of acting ability, singing tal-ent and fresh-faced charmthat promises to take herfar.

If you’ve seen eitherof the movie versions ofthe story – The PhiladelphiaStory (1940) with KatharineHepburn, Cary Grant andJames Stewart, or HighSociety (1956) with GraceKelly, Frank Sinatra andBing Crosby – the playwon’t offer any big sur-prises.

But it will offer a charm-ing and refreshing nightout and plenty of reasons toleave the theatre humming.

High Society is on atthe Stanley IndustrialAlliance Stage until June24. It’s on Tuesdays at 7:30pm, Wednesdays throughSaturdays at 8 pm, andWednesdays, Saturdaysand Sundays at 2 pm.

Tickets are $29 to $70,Call the Arts Club boxoffice at 604-687-1644 orvisit artsclub.com.

Another kick at a cupIt took more than a little

bit of sibling rivalry to getMilan Gajic back on thelacrosse floor.

A three-time winnerof a Minto Cup Canadianjunior lacrosse champi-onship with the junior ABurnaby Lakers, Milanspent the last decade play-ing professional hockeyin the American and EastCoast hockey leagues, aswell as in Europe.

This Thursday, theeldest of the Gajic brotherswill join his three youngersiblings for the first time intheir collective organizedsports careers playing onthe same team.

The four, includingNenad, Ilija and youngestbrother Alex, will maketheir familial debut withthe New WestminsterSalmonbellies at theWestern LacrosseAssociation home openerat Queen’s Park Arenaagainst the NanaimoTimbermen on May 24.

“I was 50/50 on it,” the30-year-old Milan said ofhis return to the indoorbox lacrosse game. “I wasalways thinking it wouldbe nice to play with mybrothers. They were full-court pressing me toplay.”

Even his motherand father were keenon seeing their sons allsuit up together in theSalmonbellies red, whiteand blue. Club presidentand general managerDan Richardson was alsoreportedly increasing hisIphone minutes, textingthe eldest Gajic almostdaily.

Milan, who was theGame 6 MVP in Burnaby’s7-3 Minto Cup-winninggame in 2002, believes thebiggest adjustment will befinding his timing againafter 10 years on the ice.

“The puck doesn’tbounce like the ball does,”he said with a laugh. “It

will be fun to see if I canget past centre.”

Milan earned an NCAAhockey scholarship at theUniversity of Michiganand was picked up in theNHL entry draft by theformer Atlanta Thrashers.

He played his lasthockey game with theVictoria Salmon Kings ofthe East Coast league in2010 and spent all of lastyear resting his body fromthe rigours of being a proathlete.

With his three young-er brothers playing prolacrosse in Denver for

the Colorado Mammothin the National leaguein the winter league,Milan decided maybethe Western LacrosseAssociation might be hislast opportunity for somequality time together withhis brothers.

“It would be nice tobe around them for anextended period of time,”Milan said. “It will be kindof nice spending some realtime rather than just bar-becue and dinner withme.”

Milan doesn’t expectthe debut to be an emo-

tional one but it could turninto that as the summerseason draws to an end.

“I think it will be,”Milan said. “It’s not aregret of mine (not playingtogether). But it’s some-thing I kind of wanted.”

Milan will make hison-floor debut with hisbrothers on Thursday atQueen’s Park at 7 p.m.

Q. “If the realtor represents bothBuyer and Seller in the sale of ourhome why does it feel like we are pay-ing him twice?”

- Mike resident Glenbrooke North

When you list your home you agree topay your Realtor a given amount. As part ofthe contract, he agrees to pay another Realtor aportion of his commission to assist in the saleof your home. It does not matter if one or twoRealtors are involved. What’s important is thatyou are satisfied with your final sale price. If the Realtor has done his job, and you arehappy with the result, pay him what youagreed too. I have always tried to be fair in thissituation with my clients. I believe in beingperformance based. If you took his advice onprice and your home is selling far below thenumbers he originally quoted you then feelfree to ask for a discount. He missed the mark. However, if it sells within the range hesuggested, or it sells quickly, he has done hisjob and deserves your praise as well as thefull commission. I am always puzzled when aclient suggests that I reduce my commissionbecause their home sold quickly. Would theyfeel better if it took six months to sell?I don’t think so.

A.

Hot Tip #13If you took his advice and

you’re happy with the sale price, pay the man!

Send me your real estate related questions [email protected] and look for my

answers each Wednesday in this section.

Q.

It won’t be. But the one it replaced whenyour home was still on oil will! WheneverI encounter an old above ground oil tank,it’s a red flag that there is more than likelyone that has failed still buried underground. This was a common way to solve an ingroundoil tank failure. Most homeowners think theyare lucky the builder chose to place the tankabove ground. Large oil tanks were placedbelow the frost line to ensure the free flow ofoil in the winter months. Get a professional into locate the inground tank and have itremoved before you sell. Any offer on anolder home will have a condition in it to thebenefit of the Buyer that states it will be yourheadache if they find one during inspection.Even a de-commissioned tank (one that hasbeen filled with sand) has to be removed inorder for a new Buyer to get insurance.Usually the cost is about $$2500.00

A.

Hot Tip #14If its above ground, don’t be surprised

to find an old one in the ground!

“We have an old empty aboveground oil tank in our yard. I don’timagine this will be an issue when wesell. Will it?”

- Bob Sapperton resident

Taffy passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born inCornwall England, he came to BC as a herdsman in 1976. In1980 he started at Dairyland, working there until his retirement in2011. Taffy had a true passion for soccer - playing himself, watching his children play and coaching. His favorite team wasArsenal (getting up at 4:30am to watch a game!) followed closelyby the Whitecaps. He loved camping with his family and sittingaround the campfire. He had a keen sense of humour that neverwavered and loved a good fart joke. Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a Sudoku, the numbers1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, columnand box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues alreadyprovided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
