ROYAL CONCERT HALL 3

Following the record-breaking success of Cinderella, the sell-out popularityof Calendar Girls, and the ever increasing audiences for our NottinghamClassical concert series, I am delighted to present the Royal Centre’s Summer2009 brochure.

As always there is a wide variety of shows and events on offer with highlightsincluding Kneehigh Theatre’s Brief Encounter, direct from the West End witha visually stunning multi-media interpretation of this classic love story; StephenDaldry’s award-winning production of An Inspector Calls; the classic rockopera Quadrophenia; the return of one of the most popular musicals to visitthe Royal Centre in recent history, Chicago; as well as a whole host of familyperformances throughout the summer months. And don’t forget there is stilltime to book for some of the terrific productions this April including the devilishlysexy The Witches of Eastwick, and the RSC’s The Tempest, which has beenthrilling audiences in South Africa prior to its UK tour.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your continuing support to theRoyal Centre. In these difficult and worrying times we aim to carry on offeringyou the widest range of engaging, thought-provoking, thoroughly entertaining, and, above all, good value live shows in the region.

Best Wishes

Robert Sanderson

Set in London and Brighton at the height of the Mod era, QUADROPHENIA is told through the eyes of Jimmy, a hedonistic style conscious teenager searching for a place to belong and a girl to love.

Misunderstood by his parents and stuck in a dead end job, he sets off on a trip to Brighton that will change his life forever. This compelling coming of age story is brought to life in this original stage adaptation of the legendary album. The evocative world of sixties Britain provides a colourful backdrop to Jimmy’s journey.

Pete Townshend’s stunning score pulsates with life and brilliantly captures the excitement of a nation on the brink of change. The album Quadrophenia was released by The Who in 1973 followed by the iconic film in 1979. Rolling Stone magazineand VH1 have named it one of the 100Greatest Albums of all Time.
