• Roy Lichtenstein was one of the most famous Pop Artists of his time.

• Pop Art uses everyday, commercial objects as art, such as comic books, soup can labels, and gum wrappers.

Lichtenstein…• Roy Lichtenstein used a grid to transfer pictures

from the comic books, ads, etc. The pictures were not exact copies, but were cropped images from the original (parts were left out).

His works…

• At Lichtenstein’s first show in 1961, his works were put down by art critics.

• By 1988, his painting “Torpedo… los!” was sold for 5.5 million, a record at the time.

• Lichtenstein also made several sculptures, which mimicked the style he used in his paintings.

His death.

• Roy Lichtenstein died of Pneumonia in 1997 at New York University Medical Center.
