Rover's Mission

Searching for treasures, new and rediscovered, for theatre "off the beaten path."

Rover Dramawerks produces lost or forgotten works of well-known authors,

revives excellent scripts that have suffered from lack of exposure, and discovers unknown gems of the stage.

Get Involved!

Welcome to Rover and the fifth mainstage show of our 15th Anniversary Season! We are pleased to present seven exciting mainstage shows and two One Day Only 10-minute play festivals again this season, as well as classes and camps for children and adults. We also offer unique Adventure Nights programming most Fridays and Saturdays between our mainstage shows. There’s still time to join our ever growing ranks of season ticket holders by picking up a 3-show Season Sampler or Punch Card. Then you’ll be ready to renew when we announce our 16th Season during Come Blow Your Horn later this summer. Join us as we grow, won’t you? Volunteers make all of this possible. We are a business. We are an art. We are a community. If you have ever been a part of any of these things, you have the skills we’re looking for! We’re looking for people to join our dynamic Board of Directors, help us write grants, network on Rover’s behalf with local businesses, build sets, join our new guild - if you’ve got a talent, we can probably make use of it! Just give your contact information to the box office or a roving board member and we’ll take it from there. You can also send an email to Rover’s Artistic Director Carol M. Rice at [email protected] for more information or with kudos, questions, or concerns about anything Rover related, too! If you don’t have a lot of extra time, you can still help out. Use GoodSearch.com when surfing the web (instead of Google), and Rover gets a penny per search. Use GoodShop when you shop online, and we get a percentage of your purchase! There’s even a nifty toolbar you can download that will tell you when you’re visiting a shopping site that will benefit Rover! With COUPONS! You can also link your Tom Thumb Reward Card to Rover. Just fill out an application at the store including our account number, 10965, and we’ll get a percentage every time you buy groceries! Every little bit ads up! Another easy way to support Rover is to visit the businesses whose ads appear in our program, and let them know you’re there because you saw them here! You can even buy an ad for YOUR business! Rates start at just $50 for a quarter page, and we have season ads available, too. Be a show sponsor! You can sponsor the whole run, be a co-sponsor, or even just sponsor an opening night, closing night, or any special night during the run of any show in our season! And of course you can donate to Rover, and we don’t just need money (although that’s the BEST way to help) - you can also donate goods and services! More than anything though, we love it when you’re here in our audience. We need and appreciate your support and hope to see you again SOON. Be sure to make your tax-deductible donations and buy your season tickets!

About Tonight’s Play

It's 1942, and two of Hollywood's biggest divas have descended upon the luxurious Palm Beach Royale Hotel with assistants, luggage…and

legendary feud in tow. Even with members of the Navy diving out of the fourth floor windows into the swimming pool and running maneuvers in the

lobby, everything seems to be in order for their wartime benefit performance. That is, until they are somehow assigned to the same suite.

Mistaken identities, overblown egos, double entendres, and a lap dog named Mr. Boodles round out this riotous love note to the classic farces of

the 30s and 40s.

There will be one 15-minute intermission.

Who's Who Phineas Bennett (Stage Manager) is elated to return to Rover Dramawerks. Previous Rover credits have included Summers in The Girls in 509 and stage managing Something’s Afoot. He has stage managed, assistant directed, and designed costumes for Pocket Sandwich Theatre and stage managed and directed for MBS Productions. A stickler for shows running on time, he has the word “places” tattooed on his arm. Phineas would like to thank his loving partner for all he does for his “munkey.” DeWayne Blundell (Mr. Pippett) was most recently on stage with Nouveau 47 in A Very Nouveau Holiday, and has performed in numerous productions with the Pocket Sandwich Theatre including Jack the Ripper, Fangs for the Memories, Oh Bother Werewolf Art Thou, and Curse of the Mummy. He’s also appeared in Mary Stuart at Garland Civic Theatre and Rover Dramawerks’ late-night production of The Killing Joke. After a couple of turns in their One-Day-Only theatre festivals, DeWayne is thrilled to be back with Rover portraying the fabulous Mr. Pippet in this hilarious production, and grateful to be involved with such an amazing cast and crew. Kelly Moore Clarkson (Mrs. Everette P. Osgood) is excited to return to Rover Dramawerks in Suite Surrender as Mrs. Osgood. Audiences may remember her in past Rover productions like, It Runs in the Family, More Fun Than Bowling, The Crowd You're in With, and Premiere! In addition to her work with Rover, Kelly has appeared in many theaters in Dallas area including The Pocket Sandwich Theatre, Uptown, and FCT. Her most recent roles were Julia in Lend Me a Tenor at Mesquite Community Theatre, Betty in The Great American Trailer Park Musical at Runway Theatre and Officer Randy Osteen in Superior Donuts at Lewisville Community Theatre. Kelly wishes to express her love and gratitude to her husband Russell and their children for their unending support.

Rhonda Durant (Fight Choreographer) is very happy to be working at Rover for the first time. Rover Dramawerks has been honored over the past few weeks to host an intern through Texas Nonprofit Theatres. Welcome Shelby Kay Gilliland!

And we’ve been keeping her busy! So far, she's helped build our set for Suite Surrender, attended Rotary meetings and Plano Chamber of Commerce Business Interchanges with board members, helped plan our June 20 season announcement party, Photoshopped publicity photos, and read more than a half dozen plays under consideration for next season! Also while

she’s here, she’ll teach at our drama camps and run lights and sound for a camp showcase, attend fundraising webinars and assist in grant writing, help clean out our prop room, work in the box office, attend production meetings and rehearsals for Suite Surrender and Come Blow Your Horn, and put up posters in store windows all over town. We’re also making sure she gets a sampling of what the other theatres in the area have to offer by taking her to shows at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, Runway Theatre, ONSTAGE in Bedford, and MBS Productions, to name a few.

Shelby Kay Gilliland is a senior Theatre Major at Stephen F. Austin State University. Later this summer, she will also be spending five weeks at Circle Arts Theatre in New Braunfels as their intern through TNT. Shelby was most recently seen in God of Carnage and has also played Lizzie Borden in Blood Relations. In 2016-17 she will be studying at the Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in London.

Shelby is with us through June 27, and we’ll miss her when she’s gone. We think she has a very bright future in theatre.

Texas Nonprofit Theatres is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the theatres of Texas and the communities they serve. TNT, with the support of the Texas Commission on the Arts, sponsors internships to address the needs of theatres for qualified assistance, and the need of students for information about theatre careers and for job opportunities in the field.

The goal of the program is to expose students to the theatre profession by providing firsthand experience working with and in theatres; giving an overview of current issues in the profession; and facilitating job opportunities through contacts made in the Texas theatre community.

Please visit www.texastheatres.org for more information about TNT.

nationally renowned Heideman Award. He is the recipient of five Carbonell Awards; two Silver Palm Awards; and three Florida Individual Artist Fellowships. He is also an award-winning actor and designer. He is a founding member of the award-winning theatre Zoetic Stage in Miami. He resides in South Florida and is a member of the Dramatists Guild and Actors' Equity. Henry Okigbo (Francis) is excited to be performing with Rover Dramawerks for the first time. A recent graduate from Texas A&M University - Commerce, Henry has performed in many TAMU - Commerce productions, such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, Kiss Me, Kate, Hollywood Arms by Carol Burnett, and Iphigenia by Don Nigro. He was recently seen in Theatre Britain's And Then There Were None as Doctor Armstrong. He also performed for MBS Productions' Dante: Purgatorio as Dante. His favorite credit is William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, because his portrayals as both Oberon and Theseus challenged him as an actor. It made him believe that acting is his calling and to strive for greatness. He would like to thank God, for his guidance and protection. Also he would like to thank the director Carol for casting him. Finally, he would like to thank his family and friends for their support and motivation. The saga continues.... Maxim Overton (Lighting Designer) learned the mystic arts of Tech-Wan-Do from James "Pop" Smethers, W. T. White High School's theater teacher. Max has picked up new tricks since then, but the majority of what he knows, he knows because of him. Thanks Pop.

Bill Parr (Set Designer) is honored to have been asked to work with Rover once again. Bill has periodically participated in Rover Productions since before Rover was Rover. He wants to thank Ted, Kenneth, Adam, Shelby, Trish, Darcy, and the cast and crew for making his concept of Mizneresque rooms come to fruition. Carol M. Rice (Director) is the Artistic Director of Rover Dramawerks, as well as one of the co-founders. For Rover, a few of the plays she has directed include The Cupcake Conspiracy, Who Was That Lady I Saw You With? Written in Time, The Crowd You’re in With, Morphic Resonance (both in 2003 and 2010), Epic Proportions, and Shakespeare in Hollywood. She also recently directed Silver Screen Slayer at Camp Death Productions and Pocket Sandwich Theatre and appeared as Emily Brent in Theatre Britain’s And Then There Were None. Also a playwright, she is proud to say that Rover has produced her world premieres of Around the World in 80 Days in 2008 and Murder at the Orient Burlesque in 2011. She has plays published through Next Stage Press (nextstagepress.com) and Brooklyn Publishers (brookpub.com) and has short plays being produced this summer in Florida and New York. Despite her absolute love of theatre, her favorite roles are Wife to best friend Jason and Mom to Stephen and Scott. Jason Rice (Sound Designer) has been on the Rover board since it was founded and is the current Board President. He has designed sound for such shows as Other People’s Money, Who Was That Lady I Saw You With?, The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker, Written in Time, Adventures in Mating, Mary’s Wedding, The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged), and Night Must Fall. He has received awards for acting and sound design, and he has written several custom murder mysteries and one-act plays. Jason has composed music for both live theatre and video, receiving the Aegis Award for his original composition for Matt Kaufman’s film short Willoughby. Some of the plays he has directed for Rover include WRENS, More Fun Than Bowling, Premiere!, Around the World in 80 Days, The Runner Stumbles, and War of the Worlds. As much fun as theater is, Jason’s favorite role is Daddy to Stephen and Scott. “What’s my motivation for ‘Because I said so!’?” Heather Walker Shin (Claudia McFadden) is enjoying being back on the Rover stage, having last been seen as Rosemary Mortimer in the smash hit It Runs in the Family. Previous credits include Ginger Grant in Gilligan's Island: the Musical, Mary Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life, and Queen Aggravain in Once Upon a Mattress. Heather would like to thank her husband James and her kids Grady and Wyatt for their love and support! Saranghae!
