Education Week Open Day—2018
Education Week is a statewide, annual event, held during the first week of August, to celebrate NSW public education. The week communicates the achievements of public schools, their students and the value of public education. Education Week 2018 runs from Monday, 6 August – Friday, 10 August.
The theme for 2018 Education Week is: Today's schools – creating tomorrow's world. It celebrates how NSW public schools are equipping young people with the skills and capabilities they need to thrive in a rapidly changing, globalised world.
Rouse Hill Public School will have an Open Day during Education Week on Monday 6 August. More details will follow early next term.

Gardening at RHPS Students in 4-6C, 1/2S, 1M and 4I were fortunate to have an incursion sponsored by Baulkham Hills Council and Cleanaway on Wednesday 13 June. From this wonderful experience we now have our own worm farm to help reduce our crunch and sip waste from going into landfill. Our worm farm will help fertilise our gardens that we are caring for in our school. Writing from the incursion In 4I we had an incursion. It was all about a worm farm. We got to learn about the three bins – green, yellow and red. The next thing we learnt about was the actual worm farm and some of you might say they are very wet and gross but they’re not because the scraps and the soil make them soggy. Now for the fun bit! The worms were tiny and red. I got to hold one but when it was “weeing” on me it felt like water. The worms will eat our food scraps but remember don’t feed them oranges, onions, lemons or meat. By Josh E
On Wednesday 13th June 4I had a visitor from Cleanaway called Jess. Jess was here to give us a worm farm and to teach us the importance of recycling and putting our rubbish in the right bin. Did you know that worm wee helps plants to grow? That’s Amazing! By Chloe H
On Wednesday 13th June 4I had an incursion about what we can put into a worm farm and what we can’t. We also learnt about garden bins, recycling bins and the waste bin. We also got to hold worms. They felt like goo moving around I your hand. Jess from Cleanaway came to help us with learning about worm farms. By Isabella P
On Wednesday 13th June 4/6C participated in an incursion about worm farms with 4I. Jess from
Cleanaway told us how to make a worm farm and how to look after the worms. The worms need a worm
blanket made from old newspaper, moist soil to live in and food scraps to eat. We can use the worm wee
and poo as fertilizer for our garden. By 4/6C

Meet our Leaders I hope you enjoyed meeting our school prefects last fortnight. This week I take great pleasure in introducing our house captains for Rouse and Terry. Next fortnight we will meet the house captains for Davis and Kelly.
Name: Eugene Rouse House Captain
I have been at Rouse Hill Public School for 7
years. I started at Rouse Hill Public School
around halfway through Kindergarten.
I wanted to become a leader at Rouse Hill Public
School because it shows I am able to be trusted
by a multiple number of people.
The best thing about Rouse Hill Public School is
that there are a lot of fun activities and ways to
communicate with others.
If I was the Principal at Rouse Hill Public School I
would want teachers to teach gifted and
talented children more advanced things or
develop a program of
this sort.
Name: Bailee Rouse House Captain
I have been at Rouse Hill Public School for 7 years.
I wanted to become a leader at Rouse Hill Public
School because I enjoy the fact that younger kids are

of the teachers because they are always willing to help
out, and they also give great advice on how we could
improve our work.

publicity. I get to influence decisions that the
school makes.
The best thing about Rouse Hill Public School
is PSSA sport. I like going out of school and
competing against other schools. I like the
opportunities it provides.
If I was the Principal at Rouse Hill Public
School I would make different electives and
different teachers for different subjects. I would
make the playground better and upgrade the oval
to artificial grass.

Semester 1 Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews
Teachers have been busy collecting and collating a range of assessments which have been used to
inform their half yearly reports. Student reports will be distributed in the last week of term. A note will
go home outlining when the school interviews site opens for bookings for parent teacher interviews
which will be held in the first few weeks of Term 3.
Beanies for Brain Cancer—A message from the SRC and Miss Quessy
The SRC wish to advise that our fundraiser for Term 2 will be held on Friday 6 July. We have chosen to
support the Mark Hughes Foundation by hosting a Beanies for Brain Cancer day. Students are
encouraged to wear a beanie on this day to raise money for Brain Cancer. A gold coin donation in
support of this wonderful charity would be greatly appreciated. Students are to wear their full school
uniform (K-2) or sports uniform (3-6) on this day.
A Holiday Thought...
As the holidays are fast approaching, remember to take a moment to reflect on how lucky we are as
parents to be able to ‘play’ with our children and enjoy the wonderment of being young. Playing with
our children creates some of the most wonderful memories…
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday period and enjoy spending quality family time together. I look
forward to seeing many smiling faces when students return to school on Tuesday 24 July.
