Yabby Tales

It is with a heavy heart that I start this week’s President’s Report

after we learned of the passing of former player, Ben Hocking.

Our deepest sympathies to all of Ben’s family and friends. As a

mark of respect all of our players will be asked to wear black

armbands weekend.

A memo came through from the MPJFL office during the week

advising that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are parents to

contact league officials. They are to take all matters to their

club’s executive who can then make contact with the league.

Pasta night this coming Sunday night. Gunners’ Under 9s are on

kitchen duty, so let’s make sure we fill the room for the kids’

awards.

Our major fundraiser,

‘Pulse’s Megadraw’ date

will be out this week, so

be sure to grab your tick-

ets and save the date,

cause as always they will

go like hotcakes!

Lastly, have a great game

on Sunday’s home round,

please check the canteen

roster and do your bit.

Skills Guide—Kicking

This week we feature the AFL’s kicking skills tutorial. The best place to start when teaching kicking is at the point of impact. A player’s ability to make strong and precise impact with the ball will ultimately determine if the kick reaches the intended target. This video introduces the point of impact as a starting point for kicking and outlines three critical learning points to ensure good impact is made with the ball:

Control of the ball onto the foot

Acceleration of the lower leg

Firm foot

This video also considers the look, feel and sound of the kick as vital infor-mation to assist the player in learning and for possible improvements in their kicking.

The video also introduces model kicks and explains that young players can model themselves on AFL players with sound kicking technique to aid their

development.

U9s BLUE Red Hill Red vs Tyabb Blue

COACH: Paul Gundy TEAM MANAGER: Karrina Jones

We played Red Hill and it was the best Under 9 game I've seen played. Both teams possessed great skills and teamwork linking up well moving the ball from end to end. Archie played his best game and is improving each week. Guns and Gourley had plenty of dash and Nash and Brodie and Sam were gutsy all day. Great game, keep up the effort.

Thanks again to all the parent helpers and all of you being well behaved once again.

Goals: Logs, Noah

Awards: Archie, Guns, Gourley, Nash, Brodie

Go Yabs!

Cheers, Gunners

COACH: Matt Foster TEAM MANAGER: Shane Doherty

Under 9 yabbies played Somerville Blue on Sunday. Against a much bigger, older side our boys never gave up. Some fantastic link up play by hand and foot has seen us improve out of sight. A special mention to Tristan Steel playing his first game of footy and having a massive crack against much bigger kids.

U9s GOLD Pearcedale Baxter vs Tyabb Gold

COACH: Christian Classon TEAM MANAGER: Bob Lovich

Round 5 saw the Mini Yabbies up against Pearcedale Baxter. The first quarter was close with them kick-

ing a couple of goals with the wind but our captain for the day, Jed, gathered the ball on the 50, took a

run and a bounce and slotted a beautiful goal. Jed kicked another ripper on the second quarter and Ty-

ler H also put one through in the second.

Yet again it was a great team effort from all on the ground as well as the parents and helpers. Little De-

agan again showed great courage and ability with a couple of fantastic marks. Tom R was in it all day as

was Riley and Cody.

It was also great to see the Willow twins, Lachy and Heath, running around and Jack Jones was also

great at helping out.

Awards this week went to Riley, Tom R and our captain with 2 goals, Jed.

We're a happy team at Tyabb !!!

U10s Balnarring vs Tyabb

COACH: Ben Sonneveld TEAM MANAGER: Michelle Murtagh

Our mighty under 10's were treated to a night game at Balnarring. When we went on the footy field all the kids had a bit of a dance to Thunder Struck while Balnarring ran out on the ground. From the first bounce our kids were switched on.

Will Stafford in the ruck gave our midfield a great start to get the ball to our end.

It wasn't an easy game, it was very even for all four quarters. Good to see our newest member (new Jack) getting in on the action and having a run and bounce in the forward line. Got to say well done to Nugget for kicking two off our goals and Kade also kicking a couple. Well done. Also, well done to Patty for receiving an award from the Balnarring club. Great game Yabbies.

U11s Red Hill 5.7.37 d by Tyabb 6.7.43

COACH: Jason Kappe TEAM MANAGER: Kylie Kaddatz

We travelled to Red Hill for a big game against a good team on their home ground. The game was very even for the first half with both sides moving the football well. Scores were level at half time. In third quarter the Yabbies played quick moving football kicking three goals and keeping Red Hill goalless. In the last quarter, although we didn’t score, we had most of the play in our forward half and defended very well keeping Red Hill to kicking one goal for the quarter. The win was through a very even performance by all players, with all the Under 10s playing very well. Goals: Kade 3, Bruen 2, Tyler 1. Awards: Tye, Felix, Bruen, Benny, Darcy, & Kade.

COACH: Steve Hosking TEAM MANAGER: Teresa Huggard

Four seasons in one day and still the Yabbies were determined to show ladder leaders Red Hill what we were made of. Sadly, once again we got off to a poor start. Not being accountable and picking up our man had us 7 majors to 1 by half time. But with some team rules being followed and with a little bit of learning that any positions we thought were ours permanently were not, we clawed back to within 4 goals, and Red Hill feared the mighty Yabby comeback. We finished 5 majors and a bucket of points down but we showed what we can do, and the opposition coach informed us he feared our comeback. With Pierre, Maxy, Liam, JB and Mitch B taking away the weeks awards for their efforts during the game we are showing a constant improvement. We are still the hardest team to play against. Go Yabbies. Nip Nip

COACH: Drew Paley TEAM MANAGER: Caroline McCoubrey

Today was a hard day at the office for the kids. They got to the ground not focused on the game at hand. What should have been a great opportunity to put another win on the board against Sorrento quickly turned into a struggle. But in saying that, after a razz up at three quarter time the effort in the last term was much better and a stark difference to the previous three quarters which was a positive to finish on.

We had a number of injuries today which made things a bit difficult, so a big thanks to Christine our trainer on a great job looking after our players.

Feel better soon guys.

Today we ventured down to play the undefeated Rye and it was the first time this year we've been out-played. They managed to get the ball out wide bring it back into the corridor and hurt us on the score-board. We were much better after half time when we were able to apply more pressure to their ball carri-ers and force a few turnovers. We never threw in the towel and I'm sure they knew they had been in a contest.

NETBALL AROUND THE COURTS - MATCH REPORTS ROUND 6

U10s

COACH: Georgie Beech

Today the Yabby girls played STM Smilies. They were a challenging team and the girls tried hard and played well. No goals were scored but girls did great in their defence, their passing and have improved in knowing their positions on the court. But in the end, the Smilies were just too good.

Special mentions to Abby who played a rocking game. She’s getting better every week. And not to mention Keisha who played with a broken toe!

Great game girls!

U9s

COACH: Christine Jeremiah

The under 9's are really developing their skills on the court. We have seen some more great team work this week against another experi-enced team who kept the girls scoreless, alt-hough they had many attempts at goal.

Awards went to Mikayla, Lacey and India.

Keep up the excellent work girls! You are all playing so well for your first season of netball.

The girls performed great today, they are definitely understanding the game a whole lot better. We have some great girls with some great strengths which are to our advantage. We are so lucky to have wonderful parents who come along every game and support us 100%, so thank you all for your commitment. We have two lucky award winners, Shardai and Kyla.
