This week our two presidents Daniel Antman (Juniors) and Ronnie Lewis (Seniors) presented Zalman Feiglin with his very own AJAX uniform including the jumper, shorts and socks. Zalman was the star performer in the AJAX/Maccabi All Abilities Program which the club hosted a few weeks back at Princes Park. It was a fantastic initiative arranged and magnificently run by Lauren Mandel from

the Maccabi All Abilities program. The club was thrilled to have the opportunity to host the event and look forward to doing it again in season 2015. Of the 12 matches played 5 teams achieved a win. Highlights of the round were:

The U13 Comets continued their winning run and went through the H&A season

undefeated. The U12 Comets recorded their 6th consecutive win. The U14 Comets recorded their 2nd consecutive win.

The winning teams were:

U11 Jets by 22 points.

U12 Comets by 15 points.

U13 Comets by 68 points.

U14 Comets by 52 points.

U15 Comets by 2 points.

Round 14 Highest Goalkickers This week’s “golden boot” award goes to Noah Szuster (U13 Comets) & Jacob Teperman (U15 Comets) who both kicked 3 goals.

Mazel-Tov to the following boys who all registered personal milestones in Round 14.

Brayden Lustig (U12 Comets) – 50 games In his 50th game Brayden had several reasons to celebrate. Firstly his team achieved a 15 point win which guaranteed a finals berth and secondly he reached the 50 game milestone.

Dion Holloway (U17s) - 100 games

Although Dion was unable to celebrate his 100th win a win he would have been

pleased to have reached this 3 figure milestone.

U10 Comets

Game 1: East Sandringham 3.1 (19) def Ajax Comets 2.2 (14) Goals: H Sheezel, Waks Best: Jotkowitz, C Sheezel, H Sheezel, Spicer, Waks, Wasbutzki

Match Report This was the game that got away with AJAX doing all the scoring in the opening half against the eventual lightning premiers East Sandringham to lead 2.2.14 to 0.0.0. The game changed after the break and while AJAX continued to work hard, the opposition managed to take advantage of its opportunities to win by five points. Remy Spicer provided great run out of the middle and Gabe Jotkowitz was solid in defence.

Game 2: Ajax Comets 4.3 (27) def Bentleigh JFC 1.2 (8) Goals: H Sheezel 2, Chrapot, Freedman Best: Eliau, Jotkowitz, C Sheezel, H Sheezel, Wasbutzki, Wrobel

Match Report AJAX has never beaten Bentleigh (who beat them in last year’s lightning premiership) but have managed to close the gap at every meeting. The Jackers triumphed this time with a midfield that outran the opposition and a strong showing up forward. The 19-point victory was enough to still give them a chance of winning the premiership flag but they needed to win their last game and hope that Bentleigh would get up over East Sandringham, a result which AJAX could not control.

Game 3: Ajax Comets 6.2 (38) def Murrumbeena Gold 3.0 (18) Goals: Chrapot 3, H Sheezel 3 Best: Chrapot, Freedman, H Sheezel, Spicer, Thurston, Waks

Match Report The Comets needed to win well over Murrumbeena who had been the best side in the competiton for most of the year and a good start was imperative. They did so in emphatic fashion with a four goal opening quarter and carried on in the final quarter to win by 20 points in a strong effort. There was some good running out of the middle from midfielders Spicer and Wasbutzki and key marking forwards Maor Chrapot and Harry Sheezel booting three goals each. With the game well won in the dying minutes, it was difficult not to take a peek at the other game. Unfortunately, Bentleigh failed by a point and with it went AJAX’s hopes of an overall win.

The entire competition was played in fantastic spirit and all 27 AJAX Under 10 Comets were complimented by their excellent play throughout the afternoon and are already looking forward to 2015 in the Under 11’s.

U10 Jets

Game 1: Ajax Jets 2.2 (14) def St Peters 2.1 (13) Goals: Rosham, Woolf Best: Alter, Green, Herman, Rose, Woolf, Zuker Match Report Lead by Captain Ryan Borowitz and Vice captain Dean Alter Ajax Jets opened their lightening premiership campaign against St Peters. Having split the regular seasons matches at one win a piece, this game vital for our chances. With no breeze to speak of, the coaches asked the boys to contest for the ball, and deliver one last outstanding effort in an already terrific season. Having started strong we went into the main break in front, and looking good. St Peters attacked in the second half, but for the toughness in the backline Ajax held strong and we got up by the barest of margins, 1 point. Brilliant effort by the Jets

Game 2: Beaumaris Blacktails 4.5 (29) def Ajax Jets 2.2 (14) Goals: Star 2 Best: Chalfon, Bush, Guttmann, Kaye, Mooseek, Star

Match Report With Beaumaris having drawn with Ormond, Ajax found themselves right in the lightening premiership. We knew this was the game that would define our day. Having beaten Ajax twice in the last three weeks, we looked to deliver the performance of the season and we delivered. The first half was strong and skilled and everyone played their part. At half time we found ourselves down by 1 point against a team that was undefeated all season. Players were giving their all, and this effort cannot be undervalued. Our first half was brilliant. The second half Ajax stumbled as Beaumaris got their running game going, and they went on to win by a couple of goals. Ajax can hold their heads high as we played really well, and gave every effort we could.

Game 3: Ormond 4.3 (27) def Ajax Jets 0.2 (2) Goals: n/a Best: A.Birnbaum, J.Birnbaum, Engelman, Levin, Minc, Mushin

Match Report As Ajax lined up for our last game of the season against Ormond, we still had an outside chance to snatch victory. We started the last match full of energy after a long day, and played tough strong contested footy. As we entered the last half of the season Ajax did everything they could but Ormond were too good in the end. Overall a great day and hopefully all the kids enjoyed themselves. On Behalf of Adam and Rohan we again like to say we had a terrific season, great fun, and hopefully everyone comes back next year to play for Ajax. Go Jackas!

Match Report Boys, we are so proud of your efforts throughout the year. You have all shown amazing improvement individually. As a team, we really finished strongly. Our last quarter today was one of the best for the year, and we almost got there to beat the top of the ladder team. Again we have some learnings...we must always play 4 quarters. Our theme for the week was Best Effort. Many of you did this. Absolutely ripper game by Justin Vogel, with super duper games from, Zac, Logan and both Josh R's. Indi had one of his best for the year, playing tough and hard off the half back line all day. Boys, on behalf of Dan and I, it was great to coach you all this the year. You're a great group of boys. We had some great wins, lots of learnings, and lots of fun. We look forward to seeing you ALL in 2015. GO Jackers!!! Dan and Ad

Match Report Ajax U11 Jets played their best game this season against the top team South Melbourne. Ajax keep South Melbourne from scoring during the first half, fighting hard every quarter resulting in a 22 point win.

Match Report The U12 Comets recorded their 6th consecutive win to cement a place in next week’s finals series. Playing against their old nemesis, St Paul’s, the boys were not switched on; after a spectacular opening goal from the Comets, they went to sleep and struggled for the remainder of the term. The second term showed a better defensive effort as neither side challenged the scoreboard. The signs in the third quarter were more promising, with the Comets doing most of the attacking; despite locking the ball in their forward fifty, however, they struggled to put scoreboard pressure and went into the final change trailing by 2 points. It was put to them the the season, hanging by a thread, was in their control. They were left at the three quarter time to decide amongst themselves which way they wanted to proceed - the first third of the quarter was a struggle as both sides threw everything into it. However, the Comets broke through with good, hard teamwork to kick a goal - after hitting the front, they never looked back and broke St Paul’s resistance, coming out comfortable winners and cementing a place in the finals for the second consecutive year. The boys will need to realise that they must switch on at the start of the game if they are going to have an impact next week. Well done, boys.

Match Report Today we travelled to Waverley Park although it was the last home and away game for the season if we were able to win we would play next week in the finals. Before the game I told the girls that this was just another game, not to focus on last week or next week, we need to focus on today and if they performed their roles and played as a team we could win. I also asked them to have fun and enjoy themselves

In the first quarter we started quite well, we stuck to our structure and we were very competitive we were able to hold the ball in our forwardline but we were unable to capitalise by kicking goals. Mali Ella, Jessica, Imogen, Maddie A, Kelly and Caely all the performed very well.

We started our second quarter the same way we played our first well structured well disciplined and we were very competitive. To the girls credit they continued to work hard, they gave a lot of effort for not much reward. Kelly,Jessica, Nicola, Maddy K, Amanda and Lara all played well.

During the halftime break we were forced to restructure the team to stop an opposition player that began to dominate the game. We gave the task of shutting this player down to Caely and as expected she did a great job for the team. Unfortunately halfway through the third quarter we let ourselves down by chasing the ball and not sticking to our structures this allowed Waverly Park to score easily and get on top of us. Nicola, Jessica and Caely tried their best under difficult circumstances.

During the last quarter the girls tried their best but were outclassed by Waverly Park. As they had done all year the girls refused to give up, it's a testament to the character of each and every single girl that played, not only today but all year for the sharks!!. Maddie A, Maddy K, Nicola, Kelly, Caely and Jessica all played well.

Well done to you all and hopefully we will see you again next year!

I would like to say thank you to the girls, each and every single one of you did what I asked and and so much more. The development you made as footballers and as young women is something you should be proud of.

Thank you to all the parents for your support and getting the girls to training and games.

Match Report What a fantastic win to the boys today. Ormond came out hard to challenge- but the Ajax Comets like they have done all season put on a powerful display of footy. The teamwork was outstanding and the skills superb. The boys have gone through the entire 14 Rounds of the Home & Away Season undefeated – an amazing accomplishment. We are very proud of each and every one of our players who have given 100% week in week out. Well done boys and good luck for the Finals. You deserve the Ultimate success !

Match Report Well what a nail biter. We played great footy for three quarters today. As expected they came at us hard in the last quarter keeping us scoreless. Both teams missed some opportunities and the result means we meet the same team next week in a knock out final. We have played all year to make finals and that time has come. Bring it on. 33rd Maccabi Junior Carnival – January 2015 – HERE IN MELBOURNE

The 33rd Maccabi Junior Carnival will be held right here in Melbourne from 13 - 20 January 2015 and as with previous carnivals this one PROMISES to be AWESOME, ACTION PACKED and is NOT TO BE MISSED.

WHAT IS JUNIOR CARNIVAL Junior Carnival is an 8 day sporting & social festival for Jewish children aged from 11 years 9 months to 16 years of age. Participants travel from all over Australia and New Zealand to be part of this wonderful event.

The Victorian Junior Carnival Team will once again be managed by two of the AJFC’s identities (David Michelson & David Zivin) and as it’s our HOME CARNIVAL we’re on the lookout to recruit others to join the team.

We are specifically looking for:

ASSISTANT TEAM MANAGERS

Team Managers should be highly motivated and have an interest in sport and experience in managing youth. (Please note this is a child related position and will be subject to a Working with Children Check).

YOUTH LEADERS

Youth leaders (ideally aged between 19-24 years) are required to have an understanding of a number of sports and experience of youth leadership. (Please note this is a child related position and will be subject to a Working with Children Check). This is YOUR opportunity to contribute to a great annual Maccabi event. Jackas return to winners list . by Jeff Shenker AJAX returned to the

winner’s list last Saturday

with a 27-point home win

over cellar-dweller Old

Ivanhoe, keeping the side in

touch of the top four in

Premier B Grade.

The Jackas were made to

battle for the victory, with

the margin never more than

a few goals for the majority

of the match. It was not until

the final quarter that the

home team was able to get a

break on the visitors and

register a much-needed win

for the club.

AJAX could only manage

five behinds in a very dour

first quarter, as Old Ivanhoe

registered the only two goals

of the term to take a nine-

point lead into the first

break.

Asher Burstin kicked the Jackas’

first goal early in the second

term, as the game began to open

up. David Fayman slotted the

next two majors of the match to

give the hosts a handy lead,

which was to change a number

of times throughout the quarter.

Old Ivanhoe regained the

advantage kicking two quick

goals of their own, before

Warren Steinberg booted

AJAX’s fourth for the

quarter. Fayman added his

third for the term when he

slotted the goal of the day

from the boundary, and Brad

Caplan added the Jackas

sixth for the quarter to give

the home team an eight-point

advantage at half time.

AJAX was keen not to repeat its

recent second half fade-outs, but

could only manage four behinds,

as the visitors dominated the

third term, adding two goals to

regain the lead. It was not until

late in the period that Caplan set

up Jake Lew, who goaled to

reduce the deficit to one point

heading into the final break.

The Jackas opened the

scoring in the last stanza

when Burstin slotted his

second after Josh Ludski

beat three opponents to set

up the goal sneak. Caplan

added another as the home

team threatened to break the

game open, but the visitors

refused to give in and

reduced the lead to less than

a goal.

With the match in the

balance, Stuart Fayman

stepped up to soccer a goal

from the boundary and

moments later he found

Lew, who kicked his second

to give the Jackas a fifteen-

point buffer. David Fayman

added two more to take his

match tally to five goals and

help AJAX record a hard

fought 27-point victory.

Whilst the Jackas finals

hopes are still alive, the

team needs to claim a big

scalp and knock off second-

placed Old Carey next week.

The Reserves struggled

against a stronger Old

Ivanhoe side and could only

manage five goals as they

were defeated by 63 points.

The Under 19s went down to

top-side Old Ivanhoe by 25

points. The Jackas surprised

the ladder-leader and were

eight points up at three

quarter time, before the

visitors kicked six goals to

one in the final term to over-

run a gallant 19’s team.

After four consecutive

victories, the Thirds lost to

St Kevins by 43 points, and

saw their finals chances slip

away, as they now sit two

games outside the top four

AJAX gets in to the Community Spirit Approximately 40 players and our Senior coaches visited the Holocaust Museum in Elsternwick on Sunday. We enjoyed an excellent presentation from Education Director Lisa Phillips, a very emotional presentation from a Holocaust survivor, Sara and a tour of the museum. The visit touched all that attended and was

an important reminder of the importance of our community Club and what we stand for. Following this, a number of officials from the Junior & Senior Clubs including senior coaches “Macca” & “Vealy” and players Nick Marks, Michael Ludski, Michael Shafar and Brandon Joel were involved in running a Maccabi Victoria All Abilities Clinic at Princes Park for a number of very excited 18+ members. It was a great afternoon and all

that attended had a great time, sharing a laugh, some fun and some football skills. It was a great initiative and one that our Club is delighted to be involved with. It is sure to be an annual event.
