Did I go through too much detail when describing the movie? Or should I add more?

Yes, just a bit, you need to simplify it in a way that will make the mainpoints stand out, rather than the whole movie summary. -Chris O. 2/5/093:21 PM

Is my organization and separation of the information on track?

Yes, you are on the right track, and the information would do even better in paragraph form. -

IntroductionDisney has been hardly criticized by the scholar Henry A. Giroux. Throughouthis article Giroux sates that Disney films are a bad influence for American

children because of the educational content that characterize this movies. Hegives out examples about how discrimination and racism is shown on Disney

films. He shows how the female characters are portrayed with lower ornonexistent roles, giving the male figures more power and importance.

Giroux sees Disney as an educational engine that may not be teaching theright cultural values to our kids. On his work written in 1995, Giroux hits on

the Disneys best known productions such as Aladdin, The Beauty and TheBeast, The Lion King and many others. Years have passed and Disney still is

a huge entertainment company and a big cultural influence. The purpose of

this research is to find out the answer to the following questions: Maybework this part better into the introduction rather than plainly saying "the

purpose of the research..."-Chris O. 2/5/09 3:14 PMHas Disney changes thenegative contents on their movies (especially those mentioned by Giroux)?

And what are the positives outputs that Disney might offer to our children ontheir filming productions?

MethodTo answer the questions mentioned above I will research in the same

manners that Giroux did, by watching a Disney movie. The movie that Ipicked was Ratatouille (made by Disney and Pixar in 2007). On this Disney

production a foreigner culture is interpreted, much like the movie Aladdin, criticized by Giroux on his Disnifiaction article. While watching the movie I

looked at the positive and negative outputs (values, emotions, characters, phrases, etc.) that and adult and a child may pick up on. Always keeping inmind that all aspects of the movie were developed by professionals, for one

specific audience (kids of ages 1 to 12) and by an entrainment

    company.

DetailsThe movie, Ratatouille, stars setting the viewer in France. Where

food, the main theme of the production, is exquisite and the chefs are thebest in the world. Then we are introduced to a rat named Remy, that habitson a countryside house owned by an old lady, with a unique talent. He has

an extraordinary smelling sense and an infinite passion for cooking. On the

other hand, Remys dad wanted him to be just another rat, and he woulduse Remys abilities to detect poison on the food collected by the rats of the

colony. Remys desire to cook, ultimately, gets him in big trouble. The plot ofthe movie is shown when Remy is wondering in the old ladys kitchen while

the cooking channel is on the TV and his favorite cook, Chef Gusteau, comeson and says: You must not let anyone define your limits because of where

you come from. Your own limit is your soulWhat I say is true any one cancook, but only the fairest can be great. Following this, the old lady

accidentally discovers the colony of rats, and they have to quickly evacuatethe place. Remy is left behind in the sewer with only a copy of one ofGusteaus cook book. Alone, fearful and starving Remy finds courage on animaginary friend which is no one less than Gusteau himself. Remy deiced to

come out of the sewer to find that all that time he was under Paris. Now, hisdesire to become a great cook is unstoppable. Without wondering much he

finds Gusteaus restaurant that has been declining in quality after the chef

died. In this restaurant Remy finds human friend called Linguini. Linguini ismistreated by the current restaurant staff because he is new and clumsy.

But his life changes when by mistake, and with the help of the talentedrodent, he is given the credit of a great soup. Later on, we discover that

Linguini is the son of Gusteau, therefore, he becomes the new owner of therestaurant. Linguini falls in love with a female chef of Gustaus restaurant,

Colette, and forgets that he is being helped by Remy in secrecy. However,Remy reunites with his missing family, but he is not too happy about it

because his dream is to be a chef. Eventually, Linguini asks Remy forforgiveness for mistreating him, and the truth is uncovered when Linguini

tells his staff and other chefs that Remy is the real cook. The chefs feel upset by the truth and quit. Even Colette feels disappointed and leaves right

before Mr. Ego (a well known hard critic) was coming to the restaurant.Remy does not gives up and he gathers the rats from his clan to help him

and Linguini cook and serve that night. Finally, Colette comes back and

helps in the kitchen that night. They serve Ratatouille to Mr. Ego. He wasfascinated by the exquisite food. However that night he meets the real chef,Remy (a rat), and after seeing the truth, he gives a good review to therestaurant and decides to retire. At the end, Gusteaus restaurant has to

close because of the rats found on the kitchen, but Linguini was able to open

another restaurant that shows great success and great cooks Colette and the

rats.I know how hard it is to simplify a whole movie in a paragraph or so, so

maybe you should have only a few main points that support your side ofview, and then a few points that support the other side of the view, it will

make your essay more strong. -Chris O. 2/5/09 3:17PM

Mother of rat and chef are missing.Strong dad figure (controls the colony of rats)

French character is short and grumpy (Skinner)Remys Brother, Emile, eats garbage and is fat.

Colette strong female character (teaches Linguini how to cook)

Like all Disney movies this also has a teaching, an overall wisdom that isbeing portrayed. In this case is that you must follow your dreams, and keep

on fighting. I does not matter how or what you are, but that you are yourown ultimately limit.

Like any educational institution, Disneys view of the world needs to be

taken up in terms of how it narrates childrens culture and how it can be heldaccountable for what it does as a significant cultural public sphere.

To start with, we all of us have made Disney a great entertainment

corporation. This is because we want to see what Disney offers every year intheir movies. I dont think Disney is to be taken as an educational institution

because it does not teach math, science, language. It shows love,

compassion, passion on their movies and none of that is thought in school. The movies are made for kids and kids do not have the capacity to analyzethe movies as they are on this article. They just like the characters and the

adventures that movies offer. I really like this because that is exactly whatdisney is going for. -Chris O. 2/5/09 3:19 PM

Giroux does not take into consideration the people that come from another

cultures. I was born in Uruguay and the views are different there. We do not

have racists views, but we do have stereotypes of male and female.

However, the movies did not enforce this when I was a kid.

In my career as a graphic designer Im supposed to be creative and these

films inspire me, the stories touch me and I can identify with the characters.

These movies open my eyes to fantasy and to imagination. Now, I havetaken the movies and apply them to my career which involves imagining, exploring, and creating.

Disney filmsChildren culture thought by Disney films is bad.

Children culture ignored. Children are ignored? He becomes the observer of the Disney films. The films are made for kidsnot for adults Disney as a corporation. Big money from consumers that ultimately are

children.Compares the Schools to Disney movies.

Purpose of paperThe purpose of the article is to give out a point and persuade the readersthat Disney and Disney films as not as good as they are made out to. They

contain several ideas that might not be good for our children to learn (ex.Racism, masculine and feminism stereotypes).
