The area of Council reserve land in the district is approximately 800 hectares. Reserves are managed according to use, demand and type of reserve. Management plans are developed to show Council’s policy and future proposals for each reserve or reserve group. There are approximately 110 urban reserves which are utilised by residents and visitors to Rotorua. The majority of reserves in and around Rotorua are managed by Rotorua District Council’s Parks and Recreation Department. Council are responsible for maintenance of these areas, including mowing, trees, fencing, signs, playgrounds, toilets, etc. Council also does field renovation work, putting up and dismantling of goal posts for various sporting codes, marking sports fields, field hireage and any other associated work required to ensure that the reserves and sports fields are kept in their best condition. Management Further Information Sports fields Dogs are not permitted on any sports fields. Bookings – any group can book the facilities on sports fields if the governing body and/or affiliated sports clubs do not have a prior booking. Contact the Parks & Recreation Department on 07-3484199 for further information. Playgrounds Dogs are not permitted on playgrounds. Reserves Gas BBQ’s are provided free of charge. Please ensure you clean these after you use them and remove any rubbish. Dogs Reserves that are appropriate for dogs have been identified in the list of reserves.
