This means many more riding chances, and many more riding choices. Please, all of you, make sure that not only are your bikes ready for this happier time, but also your own attitudes and abilities are up to it! It was rather pleasing to see so many riders from all points of the compass at the Lakefront Café before the Remembrance Ride, they were obviously not put off by the grey clouds overhead. Even our Okataina regular from Wellington had bussed up for the occasion. What was disappointing was the number of Rotorua branch members that could not just make it to the café, but did not make the ride to Taupo. Admittedly, we did strike a few light showers on the way down, but the sun came through, and the ride home after the service was extremely pleasant. Shame on you, but many thanks to those that did pay their respects. The service was as moving as ever, and serves to remind us of our own mortality, suggesting we make the most of the time left to us (disgracefully, of course). I am still missing a couple of fluro vests that were used at the Swap Meet, those who still have them, please bring them to the next meeting so they can be kept together for future use. Stuart, Tony, Jack B, Christine and Bruce attended the 90 th birthday celebration in Hamilton for Tom Jones. A good memorable time was had by all. At the Remembrance Run, we were advised of a run being held on the following day for Tom, 90 km’s long, at a speed of 90 k’s, a fitting ride to a great gentleman of the Club. Let’s make the birthday occasion for Mal and Hartley on 1 st October something they can remember, get your gold and glitter on, to celebrate for these guys, only 65 and 60 years young! Also, remember I am off to the Coordinator’s meeting in October, any subject, contentious or ordinary, that you want raised, let me have the details soon. Sadly, I don’t have the time to ride down to Wellington, but the trip does give me a small amount of time to catch up with some of my second family. Good health to you all, see you at the meeting, at the café, or on the road, keep increasing that lean angle! Cheers, Flash #1272 Sorry, no Editorial this month as I do not have any more room! AGENDA FOR BRANCH MEETING Sunday 28 August 2016 at 7pm

Present / Apologies Previous Minutes / Matters Arising Correspondence In / Out Finance Runs General Business: Fluro Jackets to return Christmas function Remembrance Run Everything Else

I hear Bob McK’s pointer finger is pointing almost normal again now that the wire put in it has rusted away! And I hear Jack B has been recorded tucking into a m m m marvellous m m m massive feed on a Thursday lunch ride ! I thought you had a good idea advertising the coffee mornings in the Daily Roast, but it went missing last week. I can’t believe that you have filled your member quota! And I see your illustrious Natcom rep is on target to take your motorcycling concerns to the top table in Council – maybe he can get the road surface on the roundabouts tidied up! I see I have a month to design a gold disguise to go undercover to the birthday event of the year – combined age of 125! I bet they both have enough stories to entertain you all for quite a few hours! Maybe these stories will find their way into my column next month!

RIO OLYMPICS What a fantastic effort for 19 year old New Zealander Eliza McCartney to “clear” 4.80

meters for a bronze medal.

REMEMBRANCE RUN – August 2016 It can be called a celebration – one of recognising that our motorcycling mates gave us fellowship, fun, and a standard to uphold. It could be disturbing to listen to the names as they are read out, and view the photos as they are screened, but I take it as a celebration of the times we did have, of the history of the club, and of the example that we all have but a finite time to fulfil our many and varied dreams. On Saturday 13th the Lakeside Café was filled to almost overflowing with Ulysses people from all over the country, even Donald M from Wellington had caught a bus to Taupo, and had come through to Rotorua with John de Latour. Our sponsors at the Café came to the party with surprise gifts for those who had unknowingly sat in pre-marked seats – thanks Norma and Colin. We all left the Café and rendezvoused at the south end of Fenton St. as usual. I think every bike that was at this setting off point had come from the Café, but it was disappointing that the number of bikes was well down on past years, maybe the slightly colder and wetter weather had put some tender souls off! The ride to the Taupo rendezvous point, and then the ride through town, was orderly, and the parking areas made available at the venue were just sufficient, maybe lucky our numbers were down a little. The service was serious and thoughtful, as befits such an occasion. There was also notification given of a ride to take place on the Following day to celebrate the 90th birthday of Tom Jones of Waikato Branch – a 90 km ride to be done at 90 km’s/hr – how fitting is that! By the time the service ended, the weather was glorious sunshine, I hope those that did not turn up because of the weather were suitably sad. I did not stay the night, but had a great ride home with no need of the heated grips this time. Thanks for the companionship of Stuart, Bob, Jim, and others, hope to see more of you riding with us again in 2017.
