The Wheel of Rotary is in constant motion signifying change and continuity. Year upon year this idea is reinforced in the Installation Ceremony of the President of a club and his Board of Directors. In our club too we hold this function with full solemnity and decorum and pledge our support to the new leader and acknowledge and appreciate the performance of the outgoing President and his team. The function was held at Vanita Samaj, Dadar on 2nd July, 2016. Rtn. Seema greeted everyone at reception desk with smile. Everyone was given coconut water as a welcome drink. In spite of heavy rains almost 60-65 attended the function. Function was started with Jal Deepasan performance by visually impaired Nirmala, trained by Rtn. Nisha Thakkar. Nirmala performed amazingly. DG Gopal Mandhania appreciated her and spontaneously rewarded her.

Common man has lot of misconception about Psychiatry, psychology. These have been instilled by movies by the way they portrait a patient as shabby, distinct appearance and behavior and unable to stay in a society. They showcase the patient being a dangerous person and a burden to society. Mental hospitals are also located away from the city Similar misconceptions are there about the psychiatrist where people feel they are able to read about a human. Also they don’t often talk concretely about treatment. So they avoid meeting or approaching a psychiatrist with their problem. Patients that see a Psychiatrist actually have an illness or imbalance that is causing a mental discrepancy. All these misconceptions, create a very different world of psychiatry, people being either skeptical or fearful. However now, there is a change in the situation, in all aspects. There is more acceptance and readiness to take guidance from counselor and Psychiatrist. From a treatment perspective also things are changing. Previously people used to resort to Puja’s / Amulets, black magic and in extreme cases resorting to boiling oil, tie them to bed-posts or even isolate them in a room or shock treatment. However now the prognosis have improved, and also the medications. Many more medications / drugs are under trial and are more effective. The success rate of treatment also has improved with early deductions, though the treatment period could vary. In some cases the treatment could be lifelong. Every patient is different, as are his or her needs. A good Psychiatrist will never force medications on their patient. Patients should have a treatment that is completely unique to them, and a practiced Psychiatrist will work with them to find that exact treatment they need. Though no definite reason can be given for rise of such mental stress in people, it could be the result of obsessions, competition, depressions, chemical imbalance. However early deduction and treatment can help them to lead a normal life.

Rtn. Dr. Dhaval is a Psychiatrist by profession and is new entrant in RCMM. Members were curious to know the subject in details. Even today people di hesitate going to Psychiatrist .
