Dear Rotarians I am really proud of my entire RCMM members who supported me so well to pass out in flying colours at the Official Club Visit( OCV) by our DG Prafull Sharma and his team from the district. Our preparations were good, we could show case very nicely all our achievements of the year, our accounts and all payments to RI and others were promptly done and well documented. Our DG was all praise for the bonding and sense of purpose which our club has shown to live up to the ideals of Rotary. The meeting was an open door meeting conducted in a relaxed interactive manner. Very impressive was the manner in which DG presented the

good work done round the world and in India by TRF and thus the need to support this cause with our enhanced contribution. Supplementing this nudge, was the very informative and persuasive lecture on TRF by Avenue Chair Rtn Ganesh Vishwanathan. Hopefully our members now have a more clearer perspective of support to TRF and the impact it has on the community around us. Another OCV was the one for our Rotaract club of Ruia. This went off very well and all us at RCMM are very satisfied the way Rotaract Club of Ruia has blossomed and matured to a high level of well performing Club. Our support will always be there to take this Rotaract club to higher heights. Most fulfilling was our Trip to Rajgurunagar to inaugurate our club’s District Grant Project for providing e-Learning facility with backup solar power in 5 tribal schools. This project will be very impactful and will take students to a level where they can compete with children from more affluent backgrounds. Success in this project has already motivated our Club to take up bigger district grant project in the coming years. One month of the last quarter of my term is already over . When I look back at the journey of the last ten months, it has been full of fun, bonding, understanding and great tasks and projects being successfully implemented. As a marker to the end of the Rotary Year 17-18 and the beginning of 18-19 was the District training Assembly 2018 held on 22nd April, 2018. Our office bearers for the next year attended the same to imbibe the training and vision for the Miracle year ahead. Looking forward to another two months of hectic activities, before I pass on the Rotary baton to our ever energetic and experienced President Elect, Rtn Sandhya Samudra. Rotary has made a difference to me both in my personal and professional life in substantial measure and our Club RCMM has in its own way made a great contribution to the community around us. Rotary making a Difference!

At RCMM, we all unanimously agree to any project which will benefit to young children in their education, which is their primary need. RCMM had put up an application for District Grant for providing e-Learning kits – Digital Classrooms along with solar panels at five Rural Tribal schools, Rajgurunagar, Pune. We took help of The Bombay Mothers and Children Welfare Society (BMCWS) in execution as they have been working on such projects. The Installation of the e-learning kits and Solar Panel was completed during the period – April 20th to May 5th 2018. Following schools are equipped with e-Learning Kit and Solar Panels to provide energy required for the kit. 1. Zilha Parishad Primary School at Saygoan 2. Zilha Parishad Primary School at Jabhuldara 3. Zilha Parishad Primary School at Kelgoan 4. Zilha Parishad Primary School at Gulani 5. Zilha Parishad Primary School at Akhawadi Inauguration was scheduled on 29th April at Kalegoan School. Good number of RCMM members joined at 6:30 am for travelling to Rajgurunagar. We reached by 11 am at Rajgurunagar. On the way We picked up representatives from Bombay Mothers and Children Welfare Society, who work at the ground level. BMCWS has around 40+ people working at their main office in Parel and some 144+ field workers working in the 80 villages and 129 schools . We reached the school around 11:30. A good crowd of children dressed in their school uniforms were waiting patiently, in spite of being vacation time for them. The school teachers and Zilla Parishad people were also present. The program started with an invocation of the Goddess of Learning - Saraswati Puja. Then the school teachers spoke how they had requested for the e-Learning kit around two years back and were grateful to Rotary Club of Mumbai Mahim and BMCWS for providing them the same. The school welcomed all the members with a flower and coconut. This was followed by a good interaction with the children.

They sang a few songs and danced to traditional Marathi folklore. Some kids said Maths was their favourite and recited some tables. RCMM team had collected some good number of short story books for the school library. This was handed over to the school. We distributed a Compass as a gift to all students. The children enjoyed the interaction. This was followed by the inauguration of the e-learning kit. We went through a couple of lessons. Summar camp is going on for the girl children and they showcased some of the handiwork that they had learnt and done as part of the summer camp. Rtn Pratibha mentioned that such camps should be run for the boys also which might include sports and some handiwork suitable for them. RCMM members enjoyed spending time with children. We also visited another school being supported by BMCWS, which was painted and made beautiful and attractive for the kids. On the way back we visited the Alandi Temple of Sant Dnyaneshwar . It was a good project event and well attended by our members.

OCV is one of the important event in any of the Rotary Clubs. Club functioning is very closely inspected by district officials. We had our OCV on 14th April. There was a marked departure from the way OCV’s were conducted in the past. Our DG Prafull Sharma and his team changed the atmosphere to a congenial and friendly setup. DG did not have a closed door meeting with the Office Bearers. He called the interaction a close knit friendly exchange of information. The meeting was conducted in full view of all the members. Our AG Rtn Hirachand Dand had already inspected the statutory documents which we had submitted and given us a clean chit. DG did not at all look into any of the documentations and only deliberated on the path Rotary is traversing and how the District and the clubs have to align with the same. It was an interactive, no frills meeting. DG was all praise for the bonding we have with all our members, the family atmosphere and the unified approach to execute our targeted projects. RCMM was praised for organizing successful Rojgaar Mela, fund raising efforts and initiation of an Interact Club. Simplicity and clarity of purpose were the hall marks of his leadership and our club was fully tuned to his style. There was no undue pressure on us to increase our membership or to increase our TRF contributions by setting targets. He gently but persuasively emphasised the benefits of increased membership and our contributions to TRF which makes a difference to the communities in the world and to our own .This definitely cleared some misgivings which some members have regarding the contribution to TRF by becoming PHF members.

Our club under the able and dynamic leadership of our young President Rtn Abhishek Shah has crossed many milestones this year and set high bench marks for future performance. The OCV document was itself very well prepared and highlighted very nicely our club functioning and the impressive list of projects which we have completed. DG interacted very closely with all our members, old and new. District Secretary Rtn Arun Garg also provided us valuable insights of the new Rotary in the making. The sumptuous lunch at the end added to the feeling of oneness and a good connect with the district. To sum up, this OCV was a unique one , where our club passed in flying colours, also got real insights into where we should head in the world of Rotary and make a difference to the community.

AC RTN. GANESH VISHEANATHAN ON TRF CONTRIBUTIONS

We do have some apprehensions on where money is spent when we contribute to TRF, especially when we contribute by becoming a Paul Harris Fellow. Out of present strength of 36 members, 25 members are PHF and for long we are trying to make our club a 100% PHF club. Does the money we give, go to RI in USA and is used for projects round the globe. What happens to projects in India, and to projects in our vicinity? To answer these vexing questions we decided to call an expert on the subject from the District to enlighten us on the workings of TRF and hopefully be motivated to contribute to TRF. At short notice, Rtn Ganesh Vishwanathan who is Avenue Chair for TRF consented to come to our club and speak on this vital subject. He explained in detail the formation of TRF from its early inception to the present position where because of TRF, Rotary has executed projects worth 4.5 billion USD in humanitarian projects round the globe, including India. The money is spent for the six thrust areas of Rotary like preventing disease, maternal and child care, peace and conflict resolution, water and sanitation, community and economic development, poverty alleviation etc. All this makes our world safer and disease free. He explained the various types of fund collection like the Annual Fund Programme, Endowment and term gifts and others. Rotary has been given a 4.5+ rating (out of 5) by Charity Navigator for transparency and stewardship. This is something unique; the money goes to the people who really deserve it. Administrative costs of TRF are just 3%, one of the lowest for any NGO. Whatever money we give to TRF, 50% of the same comes back to us after 3 years. All our GG and MG projects are funded by TRF. With just a 1000USd contribution, with a proper matching grant we can do a project of round 35,000USD. The impact is self-explanatory. Polio eradication is the signature project of Rotary thanks to TRF. In his own lucid style Ganesh Vishwanathan explained in detail the positive aspects of contributing to TRF and with minimal effort our club can become 100% PHF. The coming year our DG plans for a 7million USD contribution from our district, with 14 AKS members (USD 250,000 contribution). The talk was very inspiring, and gives us motivation to do good in the world and in our community through the platform of TRF.

District Training Assembly (DTA)-2018 was held on 22nd April at ITC Grand Maratha, host club being Rotary Club of Mumbai Western Elite. Record participation of around 900 guests and an action packed programme of information and training was presented to the guests. DG Elect Rtn Shashi Sharma had spared no effort to make it a mega event. It was titled ‘Nalanda-Gyan Ka Sagar.’ Some of the highlights were the release of the club directory, in a grand style. It was brought to the stage in a palanquin, accompanied by royal courtiers to the accompaniment of bugles. The Directory is a voluminous effort with a lot of information, with special effects and design. Additional copies will be available at a cost of Rs.5000/-. Year 2018-19 is the Miracle year and DG Elect unveiled his ambitious plans for the year which includes a programme to increase membership by about 800 members and a TRF collection of 7 Million USD. Plan is to have 14 AKS members (each contribution 250,000USD).Details of DISCON 2019 and the core team were introduced. Senior and well experienced speakers presented the latest procedures and their experiences in handing various topics like OCV, Club Meetings, TRF, CSR, GG, Club Constitution and Bye Laws, Roles and Responsibilities of office Bearers, RYLA/ RYPEN, impact of GST, etc. Breakout Sessions were well organised. This was a good opportunity to learn new regulations and also refresh and clarify what we already know. Special sessions on Membership Growth, Thrust Areas, Rotay Munim (Service Projects) were conducted and the need for all clubs to participate vigorously in all District projects was emphasised. All in all it was a good event to meet Rotarians and know the current trends in Rotary and to prepare ourselves for the expectations for the year ahead. Office Bearers Rtn Prakash Samudra (AG),Rtn Sandhya Samudra (President), Rtn K Suryakumar ( Secretary) for the Miracle Year 2018-19 attended this Programme.

The directors were asked to come up on stage and give a gist about all the projects done under their leadership throughout the year. We noticed that a good number of projects have been executed under each avenue and also each avenue had a flagship project. Almost 150+ projects have been executed by the Rotaractors. This year they had added some additional avenues like entrepreneurial Development. This year the Interact Club was also formed and we saw a lot of projects executed for the Interact Clubs which was very heartening. RCMM members, as a parent club provided their opinions on how RC Ruia had fared during 2017-18 and gave their best wishes for the coming years. The Rotary members were present in good numbers to support the Rotaractors A session was then held by the DRR Rtr. Om Chawla where in he interacted with the GBM's, asked them to give their opinions. A small activity was also conducted where the GBM's were divided into teams and were asked to think of new project ideas within 5 minutes. A closed door meeting was held with Board of Directors and the Core team members by the DRR and his council members. It went for about 2 hours wherein the clubs functioning was discussed. The DRR also appreciated the club for its legacy projects and also give tips and advices to enhance it. The meeting was then adjourned by the President. It was a very successful 6th Official Club Visit for the Rotaract Club of Ramnarain Ruia College. They are rated seventh in the District and it was heartening to see how the President Alpona and her team has built a young dynamic Rotaract club with 160+ members. Many of the members have also moved to the District Level.
