A very good evening everyone espe-cially to members of Rotary Club of KL City Center, members of Rotary Club Puchong Centenni-

al, members of Rotary Club of Pudu and guests. I can confirm that today’s meeting has noth-ing to do with the forthcoming general elec-tion and I can confirm there shall be no politi-cal speeches. However I can advise you, please vote wisely! The last two weeks we had been busy. - on Tues 24th April 2018 we handed over 5 units desktop computers, a projector and a water cooler to the SJK San Peng Tamil school. This project was in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Puchong Centennial and the Yayasan Kelab Kelab Rotary Ma-laysia. The basic objective of the project was to encourage the teachers to use modern methods to teach their students. The teachers were very eager to take up the challenge; as well as the students. It was a successful pro-ject and the school and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) were happy and grateful. Thank you members of Puchong Centennial, Pudu and Yayasan for coming forward to help the community. - then on 1st May, 2018 on this meaningful day for workers we brought cheers to 100 poor families at the San Peng and Loke Yew flats by giving them gifts of essentials day to day use. This project was called “From Rotary With Love” and we gave to each family RM120 worth of goodies. Thanks again to Pudu and Puchong Centenni-al members. Across town at Kampung Baru, the Rotary Club of Kampung Baru City Centre also presented goodies to 100 families under this similar programme. - we also attended the District Assembly in numbers at Sungai Petani and had a great time in fellowship led by our President Elect CT Heng. Some took the opportunity to cross

W e have been giving away com-puters to a few schools in the past. And SJK (T) San Peng was one of them in 1998-99

when I was the President of this Club. After my year there was a follow up; and PP KU Rajah did another project with the school in his year RY 2007-08. Computers, once again were donated. And this year computers again went to this school. I wonder when this will ever end. I believe, if we are to really help this school, then we should adopt it and really look after it. Computers need software and hardware upgrades, virus protection and repairs. The school just don’t have the funds for this es-sential maintenance requirement; so they keep coming back to the people they know—US. Hence, I say, let’s adopt this school; just like we adopted Jenjarom Old Folks’ Home.

over to Songkhla to visit our sister club the Rotary Club of Songkhla. Needless to say we had a great time there doing fellowship and meeting old friends The Rotary Club of Songkhla proposed to purchase a carriage to carry deceased people to the mortuary and had invited us to partici-pate. We had agreed and it will probably cost the club RM15,000. But it is a good project and meaningful as we were told that it was a daily occurrence and the poor corpses had to be transported in a garbage van. As we taper off our activities for the Rotary year 2017-18 we are now more relaxed. We are lucky members are coming forward and helping out in projects with money and ideas!

Dr Shashi has shared many tips on eating healthy food, nutritional com-ponent of different types of food and maintaining a healthy diet. PDG Dr Paul Lee then presented a certificate of apprecia-tion and a memento to Dr Shashi Kumar. Hon Secretary PAG Mike Tung made some announce-

My Dear Fellow Rotarians,

April is Maternal and Child Health Month.

Rotary International’s new monthly theme for April is

Maternal and Child Health. Every day mothers risk their

lives giving birth and millions of children die each year

from treatable and preventable causes. At least 7 million children under the age of

five die each year due to malnutrition, poor health care and inadequate sanitation.

To help reduce this rate, Rotary provides immunizations to babies, improve access to

essential medical services and support trained health care providers for mothers and

their children. Rotary’s projects ensure sustainability by empowering the local com-

munity to take ownership of health care training programs.

Maternal and Child Health Care is also recognized as one of Rotary’s Six Areas of Fo-

cus.

84th District Training Assembly, Sg. Petani, Kedah.

The PETS, SETS & TETS and the 84th District Training Assembly (DTA) was just con-

cluded on 20th and 21st April, 2018 in Sg Petani. The DTA was organised by RC Sg.

Petani under the able leadership of PAG Arvind. The number of registrants surpassed

500. It has been some time since our District saw such a huge number of attendees

for a District event. The sessions were good, fellowships were fun and the District

Training Team gave their best. The guest speakers from IRB and ROS were very use-

ful. The keynote speaker Andre Suharto was truly amazing with the Rotary

knowledge that he imparted and also the manner in which he delivered it. KUDOS to

OC PAG Arvind and all his team members. It was surely a well organised DTA.

Dear Fellow Rotarians

The membership in our District is growing albeit slowly but steadily.

On 1 March 2018 the total membership is 1826.

We now have 83 clubs, with the Rotary Club of Old Klang Road being reinstated.

Our strategy now should be to retain all the members in our clubs.

I appeal to all clubs to have at least a net increase of one member by 30 June

2018.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Bukit Bintang for being number one

in the District with toal membership of 91.

RI NEWS—PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

May 2018

Rotary is a massive, and massively complex, organization. As this issue of The Rotarian goes to press, we have 1.2 million members in 35,633 clubs in nearly every country of the world. Hundreds of thousands of participants are involved in Rotary programs such as Rotaract, Interact, Youth Exchange, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Rotary Community Corps, Rotary Peace Centers, and a host of local and Foundation-supported projects and programs at the national, district, and local levels. The name of Rotary is attached to countless projects every year, from blood banks to food banks, school sanitation to polio eradication. One hundred thirteen years after the first Rotary club was founded, Rotary ser-vice reaches literally around the globe.

What that service looks like on a daily and weekly basis can vary enormously by region, country, and club. Each club has its own history, priorities, and identity. It follows that the identity of Ro-tarians, and the purpose each Rotarian sees in his or her service, similarly has a great deal of var-iation. There's nothing wrong with that, as Rotary is by design a decentralized organization, in-tended to enable each Rotarian and each Rotary club to serve in the ways that suit them best.

Yet the diversity that makes us so strong can also pose challenges to our identity as an organiza-tion. It is no surprise that many people who have heard of Rotary still have little idea of what Ro-tary does, how we are organized, or why we exist at all. Even within Rotary, many members have an incomplete understanding of our larger organization, our goals, or the scope and breadth of our programs. These challenges have significant implications, not only for our ability to serve most effectively, but also for the public image that is so essential to our ability to build our mem-bership, partnerships, and service.

Several years ago, Rotary launched a serious effort across the organization to address these is-sues, developing tools to strengthen our visual and brand identity. Today, we are using those tools to develop our People of Action public image campaign, which showcases the ability that Rotary grants each of us to make a difference in our communities and beyond. Last June, your Rotary International Board of Directors voted to adopt a new vision statement, reflecting our identity and the single purpose that unites the diversity of our work.

Wherever we live, whatever language we speak, whatever work our clubs are involved in, our vision is the same. We all see a world that could be better and that we can help to make better. We are here because Rotary gives us the opportunity to build the world we want to see – to unite and take action through Rotary: Making a Difference.

Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
