of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: First : The development of acquaintance as an

opportunity for Service; Second : High Ethical standards in business and professions;

the Recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

Third : The application of the ideal of service in each

Rotarian’s personal, business and community life; Fourth : The advancement of international understanding,

goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

"TOP OF THE WORLD"

Such a feelin's comin' over me There is wonder in 'most ev'ry thing I see

Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes And I won't be surprised if it's a dream

Everything I want the world to be

Is now comin' true especially for me And the reason is clear, it's because you are here You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen

I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation

And the only explanation I can find Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around

Your love's put me at the top of the world

Somethin' in the wind has learned my name And it's tellin' me that things are not the same

In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze There's a pleasin' sense of happiness for me

There is only one wish on my mind

When this day is through I hope that I will find That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me

All I need will be mine if you are here

I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation And the only explanation I can find

Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around Your love's put me at the top of the world

Fellow Pasig Rotarians: Good day, everyone! As someone who'll be opening this club's meeting for the first time, I'll admit that before I struck the bell and got up here, my heart was racing and I felt nervous. Aside from a few, most of the members of Pangkat 12 were present, including our new member who recently just passed the Bar, Rtn Marlo who will be giving us a talk on Classification. According to Ed, he had sent several texts to Rtn Marlo who had no response. It was only the day after that Pres POgie texted me, telling me that Rtn Marlo was in New York and will be joining them at the Atlanta RI Convention. Kudos to you, Rtn Marlo with the future father-in-law. I would like to congratulate PP Conrad for successfully recruiting almost thirty-five new Rotarians to be part of the founding cooperators. In less than a week, he was able to personally reach out to these men and persuaded them to be a part of our cooperative. But it does not stop there. We have to remember that we need to keep growing, reaching at least fifty to match Luxid Group. I encourage everyone here to be involved in this endeavor. Six of us attended the first orientation on setting a cooperative together with all the members of the Luxid Group. There, we heard a well-delivered lecture and one of the main take-aways that I remember is that you need to elect five Board of Directors to manage a coop. Now, I am a member of this Board, and as a requirement by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), several committees must be formed, which will require manpower to manage a single committee. Micro-finance is part of the Rotary Pasig Central building. This will help GK members by lending

money to start their own small business. To be able to do this, to operate micro-finance, it must be an effort from a coop member first. So embrace possible additional tasks to be assign soon. PP Conrad is working 24/7, tama ba? Joke lang. Kidding aside, with Luxid just about to jump start this project, may I now call on Dir. Raj to join us now by helping out PP Conrad.

Dir. Ping Tan made a call, asking key to open Marasigan Compound and began construction for a small room to hold office for the time being, which, according to PP Conrad, will have its soft opening on June 18. Details of which will be discussed later today. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dir. Ping Tan in advance. So, thank you Dir. Ping Tan.

Last meeting, I discussed my plans and programs for Rotary Year 2017-2018. The key idea for my plans is a Body (Body or Buddy) System with all the Past Presidents. It will cover the six areas of focus as I assign heads for each. A past president will monitor and maybe offer some advice when the need arises. I can feel all the past presidents are very eager to share their expertise in terms of managing our club.

To all the past presidents, I have complete trust in you and I hope that you don't fail me as we take on this endeavor.

Lastly, the following are not yet final but just for the information of every body:

The news that our long time venue for meetings will increase its rates for us effective July was not a protest for the presidency of IP Jess. Per Edgar, they recalled the same. I would personally be benefitted if this will push through as I never liked the food of this club.

Even if announced way before that IP Jess was taking over, the attendance became worse. We were only 17 last week. This adds to the costs being shouldered by the club as there is a minimum that attendance of at least 30 members must be of paying members, i.e.., taking their lunch must be maintained, otherwise, we will have to pay the balance of the minimum required for using Baras Room.

The plan to invite all past presidents was just a suggested plan that was not followed up properly. PP Bert Tayengco is so far the only one who was recruited. Can those planning how IP Jess would succeed work out the formula? Candidates, assigned lead guys and, periodic review of the progress of recruitment.

Those who fail to plan are invariably planning to fail. Cover of Tinig, newly minted lawyer, Baby Rotarian Marlo, who was to defend his classification was a no show. Because, he did not confirm either.

We congratulate Director Raj for being named Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy of the Pamantasan Lunsod ng Pasig. Or, something about a school of our very own Pasig. His balanced program for degree is something to crow about. Both Raj and spouse Sherly are dedicated to professionalism and dedicated both in teaching and community leadership.

Director Albert had a new look last week. Sporting a new haircut, he was ala PP Ferd in attire, long sleeves with properly knotted tie, not the loosely tied ones trying to look like they had a good long day.

Continuation 1. Tinig congratulates the dedication of PP Sonny. You should see the extra efforts he makes to attend our meetings, and, many of us with flimsy excuses are out of our meetings? Traffic? Food? Program? Whatever, consider, you are denying others to have fellowship with you if you do not attend. Let the new team review the Pangkat System if there is yet any need for this, or, revamp it totally. There are many pangkats with zero attendance in weekly meetings from the leader to all members. Or, review what PP Sonny did, from contests, to follow ups and other means. Honorable IPP Ner is a new man being targeted by IP Jess. Not that he is not entirely Honorable, for indeed, he is. But H.M. is better sounding to I.P.P. and then, by July 1st P.P. na lang. Jess would want him to be an active member once again. Why not? (Next week June 22, H.M. Ner hosting lechon & wine as token Honorable) Sgt.-At-Arms, Edison’s vitamins is the liquid one that he distributes. Despite his size, he can fight off jet lag and still be sober as what he did the other week, arriving early and attending a caucus on how to assist IP Jess on his various projects for next RY. Mahal lang and premium drinks niya kaya nakaka energize. Should POgie and IP Jess review with their respective board members commitment to duties they were elected or appointed to? Our attendance woes were made more glaring by the board of POgie. Hence their individual performance level per assigned tasks is expected. Will we have a club yet on our 50th year at the time of Ike Ona?

BILL GATES OUTLINES FINAL PUSH TO END POLIO

Bill Gates, speaking on 12 June at the Rotary International Convention, highlighted the extraordinary progress that’s been made toward a polio-free world, along with challenges ahead.

Speaking at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Gates reminded the audience of more than 22,000 attendees, who were given LED bracelets to wear, that the effort must continue and be strengthened before polio cases can be reduced to zero.

Calling the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) the “single most ambitious public health effort the world has ever undertaken,” Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, reviewed the historic milestones of the fight.

At each achievement, including regions of the world being declared polio-free, sections of the arena were lit up by the LED bracelets, making the attendees a part of the presentation.

Gates thanked Rotary for being the catalyst and visionary partner for ending the paralyzing disease worldwide. “Rotary laid the foundation with its unwavering sense of purpose and its belief that anything is possible if you put your mind and body to it,” he said.

Since the GPEI effort began, polio cases have dropped a staggering 99.9 percent, from nearly 350,000 cases a year to only five cases reported this year, a record low. The virus has been eliminated in all but three countries: Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan.

PP Jun C. Zafra

Continuation 1. Gates noted that more than 16 million people who would otherwise have been paralyzed by polio are walking today. “The scale of this effort is phenomenal,” he added. "Polio is the thing I spend the most time on. Every day I look at my email to see if we have a new case," Gates said. "I'm very inspired to be a part of this. I'm also very humbled." John Cena, WWE Superstar, actor, and Rotary polio ambassador, emceed the pledging moment at the general session and applauded Rotary for its determination. "You were the trailblazers who wanted to prove to the world that this insurmountable task could be done," Cena said. Earlier in the day, leaders from countries all over the world joined Gates and Rotary in pledging new money toward filling the $1.5 billion gap in the funding that the GPEI estimates is needed to achieve eradication. Rotary announced that it is increasing its annual fundraising goal to $50 million. Since the Gates Foundation and Rotary began working together in 2007, the two organizations have raised nearly $1.5 billion for polio eradication efforts. Gates, who said his top priority for the last decade has been ending polio, acknowledged that challenges still lie ahead, especially in areas of conflict where polio remains endemic. “One of the toughest things to do is reach all the children who need the polio vaccine,” he said. “This is especially hard in conflict areas, because it is so difficult to build trust with all sides.” But Gates also noted that Afghanistan, which still has areas of conflict, is nearly free of the virus. “That’s because the people

running the [polio] program have helped build understanding that the only way to get rid of polio is to rise above political, religious, and social divisions.”

With fewer cases now than ever before, the surveillance and detection of the virus becomes more difficult. “To stop the virus completely, we have to know where it’s hiding,” said Gates.
