Dear Lord,

We pray for our members that we

persevere in attending our weekly

meetings even in the midst of horrible

traffic around our meeting venue. We

also pray that our officers would at all

times practice frugality in the

administration of our Club affairs so that

membership would not be a burden

financially.

Amen.

"TOP OF THE WORLD"

Such a feelin's comin' over me

There is wonder in 'most ev'ry thing I see

Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes

And I won't be surprised if it's a dream

Everything I want the world to be

Is now comin' true especially for me

And the reason is clear, it's because you are here

You're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen

I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation

And the only explanation I can find

Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around

Your love's put me at the top of the world

Somethin' in the wind has learned my name

And it's tellin' me that things are not the same

In the leaves on the trees and the touch of the breeze

There's a pleasin' sense of happiness for me

There is only one wish on my mind

When this day is through I hope that I will find

That tomorrow will be just the same for you and me

All I need will be mine if you are here

I'm on the top of the world lookin' down on creation

And the only explanation I can find

Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around

Your love's put me at the top of the world

Pres. Ogie Lim

Fellow Pasig Rotarians:

On Saturday, February 11, 2017, RC Pasig and RC Paradise

Valley of San Diego, California will be sponsoring this year’s

biggest medical mission in Pasig City. We are targeting to give

medical and dental services to 3,000 indigent patients. If all

pledges materialize, more than fifty doctors and dentists will

participate. By all degrees of imagination, this is a tall order for

our club. We really need all hands on deck.

Last Monday, February 6, the President of RC Mutya ng Pasig,

the President of RC Valle Verde and I went to Pamantasan ng

Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) to discuss with their President, Atty.

Amihan April Alcazar, Ph.D. and their Dean of the College of

Nursing, the process flow of the event. The meeting, which lasted

for almost two hours, was productive. Everybody desired to lend a

helping hand!

Because there was an emergency in his hospital, PE Jess failed to

attend that gathering. And so, I relayed to him the discussion that

we had. After our chat, PE Jess – a veteran of several medical

missions – had reflective suggestions, which he will immediately

bring to the attention of the PLP management.

Later in the evening, I had a very interesting conversation with PP

Conrad Cuesta about the medical mission. He stressed that

bottlenecks usually occur at the pharmacy counter. I immediately

relayed PP Conrad’s idea to PE Jess, who readily agreed with the

suggestion.

Earlier that afternoon, Dr. Alcazar and I signed a Memorandum of

Agreement formalizing the collaboration on extension programs

that will benefit the stakeholders of the PLP with the members of

the Rotary Club of Pasig, Inc. The salient points of the MOA are

as follows:

1. Medical Mission - The PLP shall provide the participants

from their institution, necessary space within the campus

premises, and the logistical support.

2. Scholarship - The PLP shall undertake the selection

process for academic scholarship and monitor its progress

through annual reports to be submitted to the Rotary Club

of Pasig.

3. Rotaract Club of RC Pasig - The PLP shall guide and

undertake the accreditation of the Rotaract Club of RC

Pasig as a duly authorized student organization by the

Department of Student Affairs of PLP, with all the

privileges of an accredited student organization.

In turn, the Rotary Club of Pasig, Inc. shall furnish the needed

support for the conduct of the above mentioned activities within

the campus, and comply with the applicable rules and regulations

of the PLP.

Signing as witnesses to this MOA were Ms. Iluminada T. Vierne,

Secretary of the PLP Board of Regents, and our very own Edgar J.

Manalang.

We had our BOD meeting in the home of PND RJ, with some

invited past presidents to help us decide on some pressing issues.

We ate delicious paella specially prepared for us by PND RJ. I

almost forgot my sugar problem when I tasted the dessert made by

his lovely wife, Marisa. Wow, it was a really a night to remember!

The meeting was attended By PE Jess, PPs Benny, Rhett, Conrad,

Sec Ray, Directors Albert, Bebert, Raj, and PND RJ, as well as our

new member Rtn Paul Alejandrino.

We have discussed the conduct of the medical mission on

February 11, the details of which will be tackled in our meeting

today. Then, we agreed to have a Vision-Mission seminar for the

club before the end of this Rotary Year. A two or three day

seminar to be facilitated by an outside facilitator will be held in a

venue within Metro Manila. This event will be attended by the

incoming and outgoing board members and past presidents chosen

by PPs Benny, Conrad and Rhett.

The water lily design contest chaired by PE Jess will push through,

while PP Conrad will also look for a professional designer to help

our RCC Pinagbuhatan. PND RJ will tap the Colleges of

Engineering and Business Administration of the National

University to improve the productivity of the RCC. The Cervical

Cancer Examination Program, jointly headed by PN John and Rtn

Flor, will be held at the Rizal Medical Center.

The movie screening project got a big boost when HOF PP Rhett

Ermita suggested Meralco Theatre as the venue of the fund raising

activity. Meralco Theatre offers huge discounts for worthy causes.

Remarkably, the most important output of our meeting was the

BOD resolution granting a 50% discount to all returning past

presidents of RC Pasig who are over 70 years old and have been

inactive for at least five years. This was in response to the clamour

of some past presidents who would like to reactivate their

membership to the club.

The formal meeting started at around 7:00 p.m. and ended at

around 9:00 p.m. Of course, the fellowship extended to ungodly

hours. Everybody in the room is one in saying that we should have

more of this kind of meeting where fellowship, joy, and laughter

abound. Let us do it!

There will be no meeting on February 16, so that we may all

attend the testimonial lunch in honor of RIDN Raffy Garcia at the

Gloria Maris restaurant in Greenhills, San Juan on February 18. I

will campaign vigorously so that the members of RC Pasig will

come in full force, together with the Cluster 6 ASPs and the entire

ASP of the district.

Twice in a row was a truly bad attendance and on both occasions,

the past presidents exceeded the rest of the members. PP Ed

Lucero is one of them. He has been back after a while. Walang

tampuhan, trabaho lang pala.

It is always nice to have PP Topax do the fining. Informative and

with well-placed humor on the side. Makes you feel at ease even if

the fine is a little bit heavy. Imagine a fine for four meetings even

if he is not finemaster in the succeeding ones?

R.I.D.N. Raffy has been out for three meetings. This is the longest

time he has been out. Meanwhile POgie is busy getting members

to have better attendance for the meeting we will have to honor

father and son who brought additional honors to our Club by being

both members of the very elite and prestigious Arch Klumph Club

of big time donors. We have to have numbers as the past district

governors in attendance on 18th

February and their ladies, baka

mas marami kaysa sa atin?

Saw PDG Marilou Co and she told me we are still short of two

new members to get the district target assigned to us. Paging all

directors not only for our attendance but to the commitment of

sponsoring a Rotarian almost as good as them, or, even better?

That classmate of PND RJ can talk convincingly like an Atenean,

kaya lang Dela Salle grad pala. But he knows what he is talking

about and he can get the interests of the crowd, no matter how

lean. By the time, he ended there were 16 brave souls, all richer on

how to better take care of their bones and health in general. Dr.

Flores is a gem if RJ can bring him to the club before he renews

the contract, or, give an increase.

Rtn. Flor is a unique achieve in business and in our club.

Remember, he initiated once, many years back our Rare Blood

Project with an initial One Million Pesos he gave? May talent

palang iba, he sings well and to make sure his talent is recognized,

who should he get to sing with him? The si ako and his voice

stood prominently well. I will request a return bout. But in the

place of Ray Armas.

Lost in the Club Assembly the other week is a unique but totally

unacceptable move of IPP Ner to transfer to a Batangas Rotary

Club BUT he will attend regularly ala PPs Ed and Jimmy. He

would still support the scholarship programs though and his

absentee member son, would remain. If the club will not be

involved, the group of past presidents will not buy the idea. Once

there was from Bacolod who joined a new club sponsored by their

mother club. But, he remained a member of both.

Remember PP Joe Abejo? I sponsored him to our club when RC

Quezon City transferred their meetings to evenings? After a few

years, he was asked to return, and, thereafter, his son became a

President of the club. I saw him Christmas day in a wake of one of

their former VPs who left club before being elected president. He

had lots of stories on what he did for RC Q.C. by getting the old

members back, eightyish lahat, all PPs, and, he got the board to

approve their Rotary dues to a fixed low annual dues, and, no

attendance requirements. But he got in 8 good ones. Seguro, we

can discuss that also.

16 years and serving as CIO since 2008, Jones is returning to

Rotary where he began his career in the mid-1990s. “I am thrilled

to be coming back to Rotary in this position,” said Jones. “I enjoy

and I find it rewarding to work for a mission-driven organization.

As the CIO for Rotary, I am committed to providing a high level
