Presidents Report

September 1st 2015

President Elect Dianne’s thoughts,

Although last week’s meeting was attended by only a few

members, our number was bolstered by the visit of Ralston

Wood from Rotary Club of Box Hill Central and his wife

Lorna. Ralston and his wife were warmly welcomed and even

encouraged to give us a brief talk about their latest project,

“Operation Toilet.”

Ron, our current President is still exploring Canada and at the

moment is in Quebec- a world heritage listed city. He will tell

us all about it upon his return.

Another member to return is John Atkinson and his wife Merle

after spending a couple of weeks in Sunny Queensland. It is

good to have you both back safe and well.

I’m sure the Op-Shop will be looking forward to seeing Merle

once more.

Don’t forget our upcoming annual visit on September 29th by our District Governor David Tol-

strup along with his noble assistant, Peter Cummins.

Another week has passed and I’m still standing.

Rotary Club of Box Hill Central Operation Toilets

Ralston Wood and Lorna visited out club last week to tell us all about their club’s cur-rent project in India. What a great idea one of their club’s members, Mark Balla, had af-ter visiting India a few years ago, when he discovered that many girls there don’t com-plete secondary education because they stop attending school when they reach pu-berty. Why? Because many schools don't have toilets and so the girls don't have the washing facilities or privacy to deal with their menstruation at school. The Rotary Club of Box Hill Central, working in partnership with the We Can't Wait Charity and the Rotary Club of Nasihik Road in India, has started to address this problem by building toilets in schools in India. Their first project was completed in April 2015 and over 250 children (our VIP's), Rotari-ans and other dignitaries were present for the inauguration of our first Operation Toilets project at the New English School in Nashik. The location is a few klms outside Nashik with most of the children living in nearby slums which have no water or toilets.
