Meal price rise We will be paying $20 for our meals from this week onwards. The club charges us slightly less, so some of the extra gained will be used for guests. The board will decide how the rest of the money will be used. They have had several suggestions and will consider them all.

    A note from Peter Lee

31st January 2012 Hi Folks Well nearly a week gone from my short European break, and another two weeks to go. After a very bumpy ten hours of flight in the first leg from Sydney to Dubai, the remaining flight legs of the journey across were fine. The bumpiness was so bad that from about Darwin to an hour out from Dubai they didn’t serve any hot drinks for the remainder of the flight, and also no breakfast. There were times when the aircraft was taking quite a buffeting, and within the seat one was involuntarily really pushed from one armrest to the other. I was glad I was in the 380 which is quite luxurious and very roomy, and not a REX. Our 380 was full as well so the winds were obviously at a terrific force to contend with. For the first week I have been visiting Alistair and new daughter in law – Valentina- in a small village about 15Kms from Milan Currently assisting them with some documentation re Valentina applying for a Permanent Visa to Oz...Apparently Australia has no official Australian processes for applying to leave the country from within Italy, so when the application is completed, all paperwork has to go to Berlin. No wonder we have ‘boat people’ trouble. Tomorrow off to UK to travel to see some close friends in Devon and Cornwall until I leave to return on 15th and arrive home on 17th. Read with a bit of envy temperatures in Albury- Wodonga, as weather here pretty cool. Still the

really cold weather is on its way from the Arctic on Thursday and their weekend where overnight temps expected to be lowest for thirty years, down to minus 10-15C. When in Northern Italy, thoroughly recommend a day excursion trip on the Bernina Express. Journey operated by Swiss Rail and an electric locomotive and its fully panoramic view windows travels from approx 400 metres above sea level to a point 2400m above sea level before it levels off and journeys on to St. Moritz. Visibility a bit spoiled by the snow which was falling, but what we could see there were lovely views.

Hope everyone is well and see you all 22nd.

A note from Ron & Barb

Haven't been able to send an update as the ships Internet has been out of action. We are just about at the end of our cruise and have seen some wonderful sites in the ocean and jungles of Borneo Pictured is a rare sighting of a group of pigmy elephants that were feeding along a river about 50 miles inland. We had a 2day trip up the river staying the night in a jungle lodge which allowed us to explore at dawn, dusk and night looking at the wildlife. No, the orang-utans did not adopt me as their alpha male, and we were not eaten by the numerous crocs. Today I have been scuba diving in the morning and snorkelling in the afternoon. Really is a tough life. It has been a great trip and should be home at the end of this week. Regards Barbara and Ron

One of the schools we have sponsored for this years competition, St Paul’s College have reached the semi-final. The other team we sponsored Xavier High School also did very well reaching the quarter final of this 32 school competition. The schools left in the competition are Seymour College, Preston Girls Secondary College, Cathedral College Wangaratta and St Paul’s College, Walla Walla. St Paul’s College have been drawn against Cathedral College and take the affirmative in the topic “That Australia is underpopulated” The debate has been organised for Monday 27th February at Wangaratta RC’s meeting at Murdoch House, Wangaratta. 6.00pm for 6.30pm. We have taken responsibility to run the debate on the night and provide two of the three adjudicators; Wangaratta RC will provide the venue and the other adjudicator. The winners of these two debates will meet in the final at the District Conference in Melbourne at the end of March. All members are welcome to attend to support St Paul’s, and numbers of those interested will be sought closer to the time.

    Just for a Laugh

Two guys, one old, one young, are pushing their carts around K-Mart when they collide. The old guy says to the young guy, "Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." The young guy says, "That's OK, it's a coincidence. I'm looking for my wife, too... I can't find her and I'm getting a little desperate." The old guy says, "Well, maybe I can help you find her... what does she look like?" The young guy says, "Well, she is 27 yrs. old, tall, with red hair, blue eyes, is buxom...wearing no bra, long legs, and is wearing a mini skirt. What does your wife look like?' To which the old guy says, "Doesn't matter, --- let's look for yours." An older gentleman was on the operating table awaiting surgery and he insisted that his son, a renowned surgeon, perform the operation. As he was about to get the anaesthesia, he asked to speak to his son. "Yes, Dad, what is it?" "Don't be nervous, son; do your best, and just remember, if it doesn't go well, if something happens to me, your mother is going to come and live with you and your wife...."

A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor's office. "Is it true," she wanted to know, that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?" "'Yes, I'm afraid so,"' the doctor told her. There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied, "I'm wondering, then, just how serious is my condition because this prescription is marked NO REPEATS."

I saw this wonderful program called “Flix in the Stix”which is coming to the Botanical gardens on the 2nd march and wondered if any of our group would like to join us for a good nights entertainment with a picnic tea. The price is $41.50 for adults or $36.50 for pensioners It includes great entertainment with James Reyne and a bush poet Peter Mace as well as a collection of award winning short fils Please let me know if you are interested

    Thank you Julie
