During his speech, the President of th e Or gan i zi n g Co mm i t tee , Giuseppe Garrisi said that the Fel-lowship, as well as unite Rotarians in friendship, understanding and ser-vice, are an effective way to improve the visibility of the club territory and make themselves more attractive clubs.

Doing good is not enough (there are international organizations that do better, "Red Cross, Caritas, Doctors without Borders), participate in trips, cultural events, no different from as-sociations of leisure, tourism or cul-ture.

The program of Rotary Fellowship brings together Rotarians who have

common interests in leisure activi-ties, professions and various issues o f h e a l t h a n d m e d i c i n e . Currently more than 90 Rotary Fel-lowship dedicated to the various fields of interest from golf to Yacht-ing for those recreational by HIV, eye care for those most voted to community service.

Rotary, must tend to do review in service to the city and territory, and Rotary Clubs, representing a means to that end.

The Fellowship in fact, should have like a goal a Rotary service, they have to invoke the interest of the par-ticipants on the major issues of inter-national significance such as the Ro-tary Polio Plus or character district as the project "Healthy water for Africa" or as the territorial project: "Rotary save the music's art" presented dur-ing the side events to the Fellowship and the restructuring of the sculp-tural group of the “Crucifixion of the Basilica of St. Catherine of Alexan-dria” in Galatina, said the sources described in the Calvary and histo-riographical as one of the few if not the only preserved intact among those in the far south of Italy.

Is attributed to Angelo from Pietrafitta, lay brother, sculptor, ac-tive in the second half of the seven-teenth century. This is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious works of the “Basilica Cateriniana”, chest of art that makes Galatina one of the most important cultural centers of our south.

Precisely in view of the historical and artistic value, the urgent restoration that requires, saw the contribution of the Rotary Club of Galatina-Maglie-Terre d’Otranto Friday, April 30th with the organization of a concert of Maestro Luigi Fracasso , to interior of the Basilica of St. Catherine, a three-year commitment.

The Rotary Club of Galatina-Maglie-Terre D’Otranto, wished awarded the Master Luigi Fracasso, pianist nation-ally recognized as one of the most representative musical talents of Salento, founder and artistic director of the concert series "Concerts in the Cloister (“Concerti del Chiostro”), the title of honorary member of the

Club, for his willingness and participation in the project: "Rotary save the art with the music."

During the evening the restorer Maria Prato, out-lined the initial stages of restoration, referring to a particular completely un-known, and the sculptural group in the presence of a hole that allows you to view the internal organs of the Crucifix, the hole which had become appar-ent only upon removal of the sculptural group from its natural location.

The President of the Orga-n i z i n g C o m m i t t e e Giuseppe Garrisi, wanted to give the President of R.C. Galatina-Maglie-Terre d'Otranto, the Paul Harris for his commitment to the territory.

The Governor Romano Vicario in his greeting recalled how the word Fellowhip means friend-ship, camaraderie, broth-erhood, society and is to indicate the Rotary Friendship does not in-volve a relationship "strong" on a personal level, but is characterized by that sense of belong-ing, of community of pur-pose, warmth of construc-tion that allows multiple people to work together on projects of "utility", so-called SERVICE.

The Rotary clubs can be a part of raising the profile of the service and sec-ondly, by their very na-ture of cross-clubs and districts, helping to ex-tend relationships, allow-ing exit from the closed and immobility that often characterizes the behav-ior of our Club.
