Rotarians are ordinary people doing extraordinary work.
Who can be a Rotarian? Our diversity is our strength. It doesn’t matter if you’re a student, a professional, a stay at home parent, a teacher, a doctor, a tradie or a farmer. We need young and old, retailers, gardeners, athletes, social workers, artists, grandparents and retirees too. If you have something you care about, and want to make a difference in your community, we need you!
What do we do? Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million inspired individuals who translate their passions into relevant social causes to change lives in communities.
Founded in Chicago in 1905, Rotary is the world’s oldest and largest service club. Our motto is “Service Above Self”.
It’s not all hard work! Rotarians have a lot of fun while helping others. Rotary combines service with opportunities to make professional connections and friends.
But I’m just so busy... Australia has around 29,000 Rotarians, and they are all busy people. Most have demanding jobs, a hectic family life, bills to pay, lawns to mow, dishes to wash, gutters to clean and dogs to walk.
But they still make time to meet regularly and make a difference. Commitment doesn’t have to interfere with a busy life.

Rotary’s six areas of focus: But what’s
in it for me?
Chartered in 2016, the Rotary Club of Seaford is one of Australia’s newest and most exciting Rotary Clubs. In 2018 our club was recognised globally by Rotary International as an outstanding example of club innovation. There is a simple attribute that sets our club apart from traditional Rotary clubs. We are not obsessed with meetings; we are instead focussed on hands-on service. We recognise that today’s community conscious volunteers don’t have a lot of spare time, so we feel it is important to respect our members by using their precious time effectively and productively; being visible and active in our community to bring about genuine impact.
We have only two informal, friendly meetings per month where we plan coming events and give our members the opportunity to raise community concerns. By only meeting twice a month we are able to commit more effort to actively serving our community. Venues are rotated and meals are not compulsory.
In our short history we have a long list of achievements. Our list of projects, events and beneficiaries include: Onkaparinga Seaside Walk for Suicide Prevention Environmental projects: Tree Planting & Bird Nestbox Making Rotary’s Global Polio Eradication Initiative Outstanding Portfolio of Youth Development Programs Container of bicycles and other goods shipped to Cambodia Prosthetic hands for land mine victims Trachoma Prevention in Indigenous Communities Supporting local charities inc. Breakfastbellies and Vinnies The Giving Garden and Paved Path construction project
