Working Principle The source of signals is a disc with a grated
design forming tracks Tracks have zones where light can pass
through and obscured tracks through which light cannot pass The
light emitted by a lighting source go through the disc and is
collected by a photo-diode on disc s other side While disc is
rotating the photo-diode detects light variations, switching the

Using multiple tracks, the combination of On and Off of the
single tracks generates an absolute value of position As power is
turned On, this value position is read from tracks and immediately
sent to the output circuit If disc has 12 tracks then 2 12
positions (4096 info/revolution) are available. No repetitions of
combinations of 1 and 0 are present on disc (unique code). The main
