6S years, was found dead in his roomat Hotel Elklns this morning, havinggone to bed in reasonably good healthlast night. Indications point towarddropsy as the cause of death. Hecame here about seven months agofrom Dallas, secured a claim of fortyacres near town and has (been in thereal estate business in a small way.He was In search of better healthwin en ihe came. So far as known, heleft no property other than the claim.Twenty-fou- r pounds of chewing tobac-co was found in his room. The (bodywill ibe shipped to Cleveland, Texas.

THE LATE EDNA SWANSON.

The funeral of the late Miss EdnaLouise Swanson was held at the homeof the parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C.Swanson, on east College Boulevard,at two o'clock yesterday afternoon.The service was conducted by Rev. C.F. Lucas of the M. E. church, the pas-tor of the Swanson family being out oftbe city. Music was furnished byMesdames Ellis, Garner and Hill andMessrs. .French and Cass. The ipallbearers were Messrs Roscoe Nlstbet,Drew and Burney Pruit, Geo. French,Warren Cobean and Jo Morrison. Another public school year ended InRoswell today. And from the inter-est shown on the part of parents andpatrons. It was the most successful Inyears. At least five hundred peoplevisited Central school (today, and sucha general interest has not ibeen showtiin years.

Every tooto had Its special exercis-es today, some in the morning and others in 'the evening. Every minute Inthe day was full of (interest and visltors found no lagging time fn any ofthe various 'buildings.

The exhibits were collected at Cen-tral school, where the halls and someof the rooms were lined with the workFrom the lowest grades to the Highschool the work was of a high degreeof merit. The exhibition was not prepared Iby the children rwith the idea of,having it examined by the public. Itwas the Ibest selected from the everyday (work all through the year and reflects the splendid results (that haveibeen secured in every depantmnt ofth schools. This exhibit will .be keptintact several days for all who care tosee it.

oANOTHER FAKE FIRE

ALARM LAST NIGHT

The fire department was called out'at 9:30 last night on a call which itwas learned from Central came fromPhone No. 520, which is at the Missouri Sunshine Inn on 'North Richardson avenue. The call stated that thefire was at the Plainly echool house, inthe Southwest corner of town. Theorigin of the-cal- l iwas not know untilthe department returned, or the teamswould not have ibeen given such a longrun when the fire was reported to beso far from the place from which thecall was sent. Of course, there wasno sign of a fire In the vicinity of thePauly school. The officers are inves-tigating (the case today and some ar-rests will follow If the identity of theguilty .party is learned.

Roy S.Pratley a .visitor from Wyoming isconfined to his bed with nervous col-lapse as a result of a terrible exper-ience yesterday when he iwent toWhit's Point to gather shells, when inreaching under a rock his Angerswere held fast Iby a big Abalene, ashell fish. He broke both blades ofhis knife trying to get free but failed,then the tide began to creep up and hewas soon to his knees In water. Hewas there two hours before a fisher-man came to his rescue.

Mrs. Will M. Hicks, aged 55 yearsdied at nine o'clock last night at herhome at 106 South Kentucky avenue,after a long and suffering illness ofcancer' of the 'liver. The funeral willbe held from the Wiley parlors Sat-urday morning at ten o'clock and .bur-ial rwfll follow at the South Side cem-etery. Rev. C. F. Lucas will e incharge of (the service.

A FATAL SHOOTING ISREPORTED FROM ROSEDALE

Socorro, N. M., May 12. A reportreached .here from SRosedale todayJ. O. Fulghum, a well known stockman, who has (been in ibusiness withCaptain M. Cooney was shot and fatally wounded yesterday .by a Mexi-can employ 3d at the ranch.

The story which is iwell authenti-cated is that the native .became toofamiliar with Mrs. Fulghum and thather husband seizing a club attackedthe on an who ran into the house andrushdng out with a 30-3- 0 Winchestertook one shot at Fulgihtum, the 'ballpiercing his body from right to leftin the region of the lower ribs in-flicting a fatal wound, (ft. is impossi-ble at this time to ascertain whetherMr. Fulghum is still alive.

The native fled and has not been ap-prehended. Mr. Fulbhium was one ofthe 'best known men in Socorro coun-ty, iwhere he had ibeen in business foryears.
