CLUB HISTORYLike many local football clubs, the history of Rossington Main FC has been revised several times in recent years. Originally thought to have been formed in 1926, local knowledge has since revised this date to 1919 when ‘Rossington Colliery’ entered the Sheffield Association League, playing their fixtures on ground at the back of the Colliery offices. A club had competed under the Rossington Colliery name in 1917, but only since 1919 has the club been in continued existence.

The club moved to their current Oxford Street ground in 1921, and just a few years later enjoyed their best ever run in the FA Cup, reaching the 4th Qualifying Round in the 1924-25 season, where they were beaten 3-0 at Lincoln City. The club continued under the name Rossington Colliery for thirty years, enjoying its most successful season at the end of the Second World War when they did the ‘Doncaster Double’, winning both the Doncaster Senior League and Cup in 1944-45. Following the nationalisation of the mines in 1948, the club endured a change of name to Rossington Miners Welfare, and under this moniker they lifted the Doncaster Senior League Premier Division Cup in 1974.

In 1983, now known as Rossington Main, the club became founder members of the Central Midlands League, being promoted to the Premier Division as runners-up in their first season. The following year the club took the top flight by storm, winning the Premier Division title and completing the double with the Premier Division Cup. In 1991, following the erection of floodlights and a new Main Stand at Oxford Street which were christened with a friendly against Leeds United that attracted a crowd of around 1,200, the club made the step up to the Northern Counties East League and have remained in Division One ever since. In 1998, after lengthy negotiations, the club merged with near neighbours Rossington FC.

Formed as Station FC in the 1970s (initially changing in a small building at the pub of the same name for games on the adjacent Tornedale field) they had begun life in local Sunday football, but had progressed rapidly, relocating to Rossington Welfare and joining the Central Midlands League in 1986. Here they excelled early on, lifting nine awards in their first two seasons in the league including the Division One title in 1987-88.

Rossington FC continued to grow operating four teams; a Sunday side and an Under 18s team flanking their 1st and 2nd teams in the Central Midlands League. But, despite growth and development on the field the club

were unable to match the expectations of the Central Midlands League financially, and in 1998 they elected to leave the league; facilitating the merger.

Immediately after the merger Main ran both an over 35s and an under 18s team to much success. The over 35s made good progress in the Wragg Sheffield & Hallamshire League finishing Division 2A Champions in 2001 and Division 1A Runners-up the following year. Whilst the under 18s enjoyed continued success in the Doncaster & District Boys League. The club’s reserves, competing in the Doncaster & District League, have also enjoyed much success since the merger. They achieved a League and Cup Double in 2000, have reached the Cup final on three other occasions in the past decade, and finished as League runners-up just last season.

The early years of the 21st century weren’t as kind on the Rossington Main 1st team, but recently the club has enjoyed a revival of fortunes and reasserted itself at the heart of the community. In 2008 much work was done at Oxford Street to bring the club’s home back up to scratch, a job rewarded as the club hosted Doncaster Rovers,in a pre-season friendly.; the gate receipts from which enabled the club to regain a financially sound footing. Further ground improvements have followed each summer, as the club have looked to provide better facilities for players and supporters alike, most notable of which is the new clubhouse which has enabled the club to bring in much needed revenue. The pride in the club’s off the field set-up continued with the club’s programme picking up awards in both 2011 and 2012 whilst edited by Pete Murden.

Off field progress has been matched on the pitch too, with Main reaching the final of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy in 2011. And in 2011-12 the club enjoyed its best ever season in the Northern Counties East League, breaking club goalscoring and points records to finish seventh, despite losing 11 members of the 1st team squad along the way.

Rossington Main now operates two sides on a Saturday. The aims of the club are to provide a unified approach to football in the village so that there is a natural progression in the development of the game. The club strives to sustain competition at the highest possible and affordable level, to continue to provide excellent facilities for both players and spectators, to give opportunity for local players to progress, to reward loyalty and cater for the progression of football in the community of Rossington.

Good afternoon and welcome to the only Oxford Street it is bearable to be at two Saturdays before Christmas. Thank you for choosing to put off the present shopping for another day and spend your afternoon supporting your community football club instead.

Today we host Pontefract Collieries at Oxford Street, and everyone at Rossington Main extends a warm welcome to all involved with their club, from players to committee and supporters. We hope you enjoy your time with us today.

It is often said that the Christmas period is a crucial time for football clubs, and whilst we may not have the same volume of fixtures ahead of us in the coming days as the professionals we certainly do have some crunch games on the horizon. Following on from today’s

game we face a couple of fellow strugglers in Eccleshill and Askern, where points gained could have a big say in the final NCEL Divison One table. Hopefully the improvement seen in recent performances can continue on into today’s game and beyond.

In respect of the matchday programme, I must thank my dad, Ian, and Pete Murden for their respective write-ups of the 1st team fixtures against Albion and Dinnington. Thanks also to my opposite number at Pontefract Ernie Fogden for sending through plenty of information on ‘The Colls’.

Enjoy the Game, and hope to see you all back here next Saturday for that crucial fixture with Eccleshill United.

Teamsheets for today’s match are available shortly before kick-off from the Main Stand at a nominal fee of 20p. Please try and have the correct change.

A welcome win for Rossington FC twenty-one years ago yesterday as they made the short trip to Retford Rail off the back of a 5-1 home defeat to Mexborough Town. Thankfully they were in for a better afternoon in North Nottinghamshire as goals from Nigel

TODAY’S VISITORS

Pontefract is known to have had a football club as far back as the 1890’s when a side, presumably comprised mainly of soldiers, competed in the West Yorkshire League as Pontefract Garrison. Much of the history of the game in the town is still in need of further research, but it is known that a Pontefract Borough club reached the dizzy heights of the Yorkshire League in the late 1920’s. They failed to finish the 1929-30 season, though. But by 1935, a club called TanshelfGems managed to acquire a ground on Ackworth Road, moved there, and became Pontefract United.

United ruled the roost in local football before the war, but when hostilities ended in Europe, they were rekindled in the town with the appearance of a Pontefract Collieries side, who by the late 1950’s had gained slight bragging rights over their town rivals, both playing in the West Yorkshire League. But in 1960 the old Collieries club became extinct, only for the name to return a couple of years later when United merged with a local youth side and adopted the name for themselves.

The new club quickly gained in stature and found considerable success in the West Yorkshire League, before joining the Yorkshire League in 1979. Progress on the field continued, culminating in a Yorkshire League

Division Three Championship win in 1982. This was the last season of the old Yorkshire and Midland Leagues, which then combined to form the Northern Counties East League. The Colls were founder members of the new league, and have remained there to this day.

Successive promotions were gained in the first two seasons; the Runners-Up spot in Division Two (North) being followed rapidly by the Division One (North) Championship. This meteoric rise saw the Colls into the top flight of the NCEL, a position they held for a decade. Progress on the field was matched by ground improvements, as floodlights, a new clubhouse, stands, seats, and other major changes took place. Much of the work was done during the Miners Strike, cementing further, literally, the club’s relationship with the mining industry and local community. The floodlight opening in 1987 saw the Collieries take on Hull City in a friendly, watched by the record 1,000 crowd for the Skinner Lane ground.

More honours came the club’s way as the NCEL Floodlit Cup was won twice, and two West Riding County Cup Finals were reached. Another near miss was the appearance in the NCEL

Managers Paul Cooper, John Brown, and Ged Elliott had been the main inspirations behind the footballing rise of the club during this sustained period of progress. But when the last of this line, Ged Elliott, left the club during 1994-95, a sudden decline could not be halted and the first relegation for many a year came about. The appointment of new boss, Jim Kenyon, soon halted the slide, however, and the Colls bounced straight back, taking the Runners-Up spot, and winning the Wilkinson Sword Trophy along the way.

The following season saw Pontefract in yet another cup final, when they lost out by 3-1 to Hucknall Town at Millmoor in the NCEL League Cup Final. Success could not be sustained, though, and by 1998-99, a disastrous start saw the first 11 games lost, and only 7 points gained by Christmas. New manager, Peter Daniel, came in, and almost turned the fortunes around in an amazing rearguard battle. Unfortunately, the club still lost its Premier Division status, finishing second bottom, but only on goal difference.Pontefract have resided in Division One of the NCEL ever since, but there have been a few notable highs, including two appearances in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy final, though they would lose on each occasion to Goole and Mickleover Sports respectively. In 2002-03 The Colls enjoyed their best ever performance in national competitions, reaching the Second Round Proper of the FA Vase.

SIMON KEMP / GoalkeeperSimon has displaced last season’s 1st choice Lee Kelsey in the sticks. An accomplished cricketer and all-round sportsman, Simon was signed by Ponte from near-neighbours Glasshoughton during the 2011-12 season, and quickly won over the Ponte faithful.

STEPHEN EDWARDS / DefenderExciting young centre-half, joining the Colls from Burnley. Seeking a full-time career in the game, Edwards was a junior at Scunthorpe before moving to Burnley. Actually from Pontefract, the young defender is now well established in the first team picture.

TOM ROBINSON / DefenderExcellent leader who has really come into his own since joining the club. Robinson is an excellent defender, who also has a decent attacking streak in him. Scored a belter of a solo goal at Nostell in the FA Vase last season. Joined the club this season after graduating from Northumbria University.

GARY LUMLEY / DefenderSigned from Selby Town to replace the departing club hero Johnny Forsyth, Lumley has been another success story at the back for Ponte.

ADAM ROBINSON / Full-Back/WingerAdam joined Ponte before the start of the current season, being encouraged to join the club by his brother Craig. Adam is a quality left-sided player, equally adept at full-back or in a more forward role, and possessor of the archetypal “sweet left foot”

PONTEFRACT PEN PICSBRENTON LEISTER / MidfieldBrenton was recruited from Scarborough, having enjoyed an impressive career at non-league level. With his best days still in front of him, Ponte are delighted to have tempted such a quality midfielder to the club.

WILL RAMSAY / WingerAnother player who joined the club last season, played for Selby Town recently, where he came through the ranks. Exciting and quick on the ball. Previous Club: Selby Town

CONNOR ROLLINSON / WingerReturning youngster ‘Comedy Connor’ has been a revelation since re-signing for Ponte at the start of last season. Another player who was initially signed by Houghton, Rollinson found first team chances hard to come by. However, he has rejoined and is pushing for starting places – great pace and a very dangerous player going forward.

JAMES HICKS / StrikerReturning striker Hicks re-joined the club where he was a regular in the reserves three seasons ago under Craig Elliott. A real handful up front, Hicks is great at holding the ball up, as well as having a vicious shot on him. A local lad, Hicks joined us from the local football scene.

NATHAN PERKS / StrikerA product of Pontefract youth teams, Nathan recently rejoined the club after a two year hiatus. The Colls are delighted to welcome back one of their favourite sons. A natural goalscorer, Nathan played a match-winning role in getting his team’s season up and running with a superb brace in their League Cup victory over Cleethorpes.

STEVE MOORE / Full-BackSteve was recruited by Pontefract during the closed season prior to the current campaign. He is a tough-tackling left back with good experience at this level of football.

PAUL HAIGH / Central MidfieldHaighy can now be what’s described as a veteran for Ponte, first signed by Simon Houghton four seasons ago. Still as good as he was then, Haigh has an excellent touch on the ball, and can pick a pass out from anywhere on the pitch. Also been known to pop up with a rare goal or two!

JAMES McDAID / Central MidfieldMcDaid can play out wide on the left or anywhere across the middle. Previously with assistant manager Duncan Bray at Harrogate Town, McDaid was also part of the Harrogate Railway squad which knocked Bristol City out the FA Cup..

CRAIG ROBINSON / MidfieldCraig was targeted by the Ponte management team as a player they were keen to add to their ranks, and signed on for the club immediately after the end of the 2011-12 season. An experienced campaigner, adept in a range of roles across the back or midfield, “Robbo” is also a great character to have in a dressing room.

RYAN POSKITT / WingerOne of the most exciting players in Ponte’s armory, Pozzy has pace to burn on the wings. Can be relied upon to tie defenders in knots, and when he’s on song, there isn’t a better player in the division. Signed from Worsbrough four seasons ago and still impressing fans.

LEAGUE NEWS

Askern Villa are set to return to action today after a two week grace period from the League, granted to help the Division One side restructure and avoid withdrawing from the League.

Despite the best efforts of long-serving Askern manager Brian Johnston and secretary David Hall Villa have failed to raise a side for three fixtures already this season and it is believed the club had

approached the League with a view to tender their resignation from the NCEL.

However, the League cancelled the side’s next fixtures to give them chance to restructure. In atht period Johnston and Hall have both stepped down to be replaced by Paul Curtis and former Brodsworth M.W. secretary Bob Laws respectively.

Villa travel to Shirebrook today.

ORMSBY ‘COLLS’ IT A DAY

BOBBY ON BALL FOR ECCLESHILL

Today’s opponents Pontefract Collieries have had something of a tumultuous week following the departure of manager Brendan Ormsby by mustial consent.

The former Leeds United and Aston Villa man had been in charge at Pontefract for just shy of two years, but called time on his spell at

Beechnut Lane following a 3-1 home defeat to Albion Sports last Saturday.

It is expected that senior players and assistants to Ormsby Nick Handley and Duncan Bray will take charge of The Colls for today’s visit to Oxford Street, and will continue to oversee the side on an interim basis.

Our Division One rivals Eccleshill United received a welcome boost last week as they announced Bobby Davison as their new head coach.

Davison has quite a footballing CV having played League football for Halifax Town, Leeds United, Derby County, Leicester City and others. After a spell coaching at Sheffield United Davison managed the mighty

Ferencvaros in Hungary before returning to the UK in 2009.

Eccleshill are currently just a point behind Rossington in Division One and travel here to Oxford Street next Saturday in a crucial fixture that will undoubtedly make the big Budapest derbies Davison has seen pale in significance.

MAIN IN ACTION

Visitors Albion Sports arrived on the back of an impressive Cup performance against F.C.Halifax Town and they started extremely brightly, moving the ball well and looking very sharp. It was no surprise therefore that they took an early lead when an impressive move down our left flank culminated in a ball from near the corner flag being hit perfectly first time into the corner of the net by Alex Cusack, with keeper Jordan Wildey a mere spectator.

It looked ominous as they continued to impress, but to our credit we dug deep and began to give them less time and space, and for the last 25 minutes of the first half we carried more threat. Their keeper was certainly the busier as we gained confidence at the back and in midfield, and with Nathan Fraser dropping off their defence to good effect we created chances. Young Brandon Fallon managed to utilise his pace to get in round the back on a couple of occasions, full-backs Danny Taylor and Brad Billam were pressing forward and we probably deserved an equaliser for turning the game around.

Sadly a lack of confidence in front of goal and a couple of good saves denied us, but Manager Steve Lodge

must have been satisfied with the team’s effort at the break

What was required was a similar show in the 2nd half and we certainly got it. Albion increased their lead within five minutes of the re-start with another excellent goal that gave Wildey little chance. McKoy Lyn swivelled to hit a volley from 25 yards that flew into the top corner of the net. We could easily have crumbled following this further disappointment, but we were back in the game within minutes. Niall Doyle’s curling free-kick into the box being met by John Tunney at the far post, although the ball may have crossed the line after touching an Albion defender. This restored our belief and moments later Billam had a goal-bound shot tipped over as we pressed forward.

The final half-hour saw both sides in search of a further goal as Albion became aware of our threat, and chances were created at both ends in an entertaining and nervy end to the game. Thornton and Maughan were introduced to the home attack in an effort to create greater impact and both had efforts saved, but similarly Albion made substitutions and Holvey and Tunney at the back were called upon to make some timely interceptions and blocks, as the

visitors attempted to kill off the game with a 3rd goal.

In truth it was a heartening team performance as we had caused problems to one of the League’s in-form sides, and if we can display the same committment in future games, and develop more confidence and precision in front of goal, then we

shall certainly pick up points. We moved the ball confidently around the park on occasions, it is in the final third that we need to be more inventive, and on the day it was 2 excellent goals that beat us - there being little difference between the two sides other than the goals. It is unlikely Albion will score a better goal all season.

A much needed point on the board for Main, and one which, with the aid of other results and cancellations, lifted Rossington up four places in the Division One table. The game was decided by a frantic last twenty minutes of the first half in which four goals were scored as both teams traded the lead.

The home side thought they’d taken the lead inside the opening fifteen minutes, but the cheers from the Dinnington regulars who had braved the freezing afternoon were soon silenced by a raised flag from the assistant referee. Coincidentally this was the same assistant referee whose raised flag at Appleby the other week had given us a goal when the home side claimed to have cleared off the line; we continue to enjoy her excellent work.

Midway through the half Dinno did go ahead though as Liam Cartledge found himself unmarked at the far post to fire a finely taking volley past debutant Rossington ‘keeper Liam Copley. Within five minutes though Main were level thanks to a superb passage of play down the right begun as Danny Taylor brought the ball out of defence then slick passing through Brandon Fallon Nathan Fraser and Ben Clark saw the latter fire in from the edge of the area to make it 1-1.

Just six minutes later Main went ahead as Dean Thornton raced towards goal only to be bundled over just inside the area leaving the referee in no doubt. Jonno Mirfin stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way placing his penalty into the bottom right of the goal. However Rossington’s lead would last only two minutes longer than the home side’s as just before the break Town drew level. A free-kick looked to have been taken some 10-15 yards from where it was conceded and with the Rossington defence still arguing the fact Martin Wade stole in on the right to fire across Copley and into the net.

The second half was to prove a tighter and much less eventful affair as though both sides had chances to add to their tallies, but were guilty of fluffing their lines at the crucial moment. Fraser was clear on goal only for the defender to track back with a timely tackle, whilst Cartledge at the other end tried an overhead special that went just wide of the upright before Fallon fired a shot that stung the keeper’s cold hands late on. In summary, a couple of well taken chances for the visitors cancelled out by sloppy defending for the two Dinnington goals, but a welcome point all the same to keep the pressure on the sides around us in the table.

IN RESERVE

With the withdrawal from the league of Mexborough Town striking three points from Rossington’s record, the visitors found themselves below the visitors in the table ahead of this game. Main were keen to get a result and get back up to the right end of the division, but were without several key men.

Usual captains Scott Spencer and Niall Doyle were again on duty with the first team, as too was Will Rowley. Also missing were James Batchelor, Dan Green, Dean Griffiths and Eric McMillan, but there was a boost in the form of Dan Elcoat returning from injury, and Scott Henderson joining the side.

The visitors started well, keeping the ball and looking confident in possession, but they struggled to create any clean openings. Main however were thriving, with teenagers Marcel Chipamunga and Josh Bathgate both rattling the crossbar within seconds of one another. Skipper Reeece Brailey would fare better though, sliding onto Dave McGee’s through ball before bending a beautiful effort into the far top corner to put Main ahead.

Shortly after it was 2-0 as Chipamunga’s corner just evaded Jonathan Cook at the near post, but was volleyed home by McGee from close range. The home side didn’t quite have it all their own way up to the break through and needed a couple of

decent saves from Dan Lodge to keep the Rhinos from pulling a first half goal back.

The second half began as the first had ended, with the visitors on top, but failing to find a way past Lodge in the Rossington goal. And so when a goal did come it went the way of Main again as Tom Harte made it 3-0 with a long-range free-kick.

The visitors would come back into the game though as they pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after Lodge was adjudged to have fouled a Rhinos striker, despite the striker himself having no knowledge as to what the penalty was for. To add insult to injury Lodge was booked for the ‘foul’ before the visitors stroked the penalty home to make it 3-1.

Soon after that the Rhinos reduced the deficit further as their winger beat the Main offside trap and his pull-back found a team-mate in the centre and his shot bobbled across the goal-mouth to find the bottom corner.Thankfully though Main would wrap the win up with a late spot-kick of their own; McGee dribbling into the box and around the keeper only to be pulled down for a penalty. Cook stepped up and buried his penalty with composure, just as he had at Hemsworth, to secure the 4-2 win.

FOOTBALL’S FAULTS CONTINUING MAIN ISSUE’S LOOK AT FOOTBALL’S UGLY SIDE

NO. 6. THE NOTION OF PLAYERS INCITING CROWDSThe coin-throwing incident at the City of Manchester Stadium last weekend brought one of football’s uglier aspects to the fore. Not Mancunians and their carelessness with loose change, but the idea, or rather the empty excuse, of ‘incitement’.

According to many supporters Rio Ferdinand ‘incited’ the crowd by having the temerity to celebrate a goal scored by his team. Suggesting this was ‘incitement’ implies that faced with an opponent enjoying a late winner some supporters have no option but to hurl metal objects in the direction of said player. Claiming ‘incitement’ seems to suggest that the reaction to throw 50pence pieces at the field is in effect involuntary, a Pavlovian response brought by years of direct association, and that those throwing their money away have no option but to do so. The coin-throwing also led to a media fascination with netting, with Sky Sports interviewing netting manufacturers who, not so surprisingly, were all for nets at all stadia.

Anyway, this is just the latest facet of the ‘where-there’s-blame-there’s-a-claim’ culture, in which no-one seems to take direct responsibility for their own actions and will instead look to point the finger somewhere, anywhere, else. “Yes, I may have hurled the contents of my pocket pitchwards, but if he hadn’t scored then I wouldn’t have needed to”. You often see the same sort of indignation amongst supporters when players at which they have hurled unrelenting abuse for the best part of an

hour and a half, decide to say something back. If you spend your entire time at the match looking to get a rise, like a London tourist tickling a Whitehall sentry guard, then you should forfeit any right to dismay when the hunted becomes the hunter.

The often fronted get-out clause by this demographic is “I’ve paid my money, I’ll say what I want” - like a post watershed Statler & Waldorf. But it’s an empty argument. I’ve paid to ride the bus, but it doesn’t give me the right to sit on the luggage rack of the 55B harranging the driver for the way he took Racecourse roundabout. I paid to watch Skyfall, but didn’t feel the need to spend its duration singing songs about Daniel Craig being a sh*t Roger Moore. You’ve paid the money to attend the game, not to leave any sense of civility at the turnstile and spew forth vitriol like a tipsy Mel Gibson.

Of course being part of a football crowd does allow you some freedoms of the everyday. I’ve committed acts inside football grounds that I’d never dream of doing on the street; I’ve grabbed strangers by the lapels in pure joy at away goals and I’ve even sung along to Tom Hark - we all have our low moments of weakness.

But despite the joy, the excitement and the relief of these fleeting moments of escapism I’ve never once assumed that as these activities have gone unchecked I must be habiting a plastic seat populated place of Marshall Law; and neither really should anyone else.

Last season, Steve’s first full season in charge, was also successful as the first team broke a number of club records to achieve their best NCEL finish. A firm believer in club spirit, which is why most players and officials at the club are local.

1919 Q & AAS ROSSINGTON MAIN WERE FORMED IN 1919, WE PROVIDE 19

QUESTIONS & 19 ANSWERS TO HELP YOU GET TO KNOW THE MAIN MENThis afternoon’s interviewee is young goalkeeper JORDAN WILDEY

who will is currently in his second season with the Main.Q1. When was your debutfor Rossington Main and who was it against?A1. It was against Hallam in the FA Vase in September last season. Won 5-2 but I think it is safe to say I didn’t have my greatest game! Q2. What is your first footballing memory?A2. That would have to be going to Highfield Road to watch Coventry at home to Manchester United. Ryan Giggs scoring the winner.

Q3. What was the first team you ever played for?A3. Castle Rise Under 6s in Northamptonshire.

Q4. Which team do you support?A4. Sheffield Wednesday... unfortunately.

Q5. Which footballer was your boyhood hero?A5. Peter Schmeichel.

Q6. Who do you consider the greatest ever player in your position? A6. I can only go on what I have seen and, although many will disagree, I would have to say Peter Schmeichel.

Q7. What was the first professional game you ever watched in the flesh? A7. That would be the Coventry versus Manchester United game I mentioned (see question two). Q8. If you could travel in time to attend any match ever which would you choose? A8. Sheffield Wednesday v Manchester United; 1991 League Cup Final.

Q9. What is your favourite ever football kit? A9. My favourite ever football kit probably has to be Barcelona’s famous Red and Blue stripes without the sponsors on it making extremely traditional.

Q10. What make of boots do you prefer to wear? A10. Don’t really have a preference but I have tended to wear Nike more than anything else.

Q11. Favourite ground you have ever played at (apart from Oxford Street obviously)? A11. Would have to be, as much as I hate to say this, Bramall Lane. Hopefully by the end of this season that will change to Hillsborough....

7. Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic and Wimbledon, 8. Queens Park Rangers, 9. Accrington Stanley, 10. Stockport County, 11. Aldershot Town

Q14. What is your proudest achievement in football so far?A14. There are two. The first one is winning the Cup with Rossington Juniors where I had the game of my life just weeks after losing my Nan. The other one was last year where I won the County Representative Shield with Doncaster Representatives after I saved two penalties in the final!

Q15. What has been your favorite moment playing for Rossington Main? A15. Definitely would have to be keeping my first clean sheet last year in difficult conditions at Bottesford. ‘Apps’ was due to play but was injured ten minutes before kick-off, so I wasn’t particularly given much preparation time either which made it even better.

Q16. Sum what playing for Rossington Main means to you in 5 words or less. A16. Just amazing.

SPECTATOR NOTICEThe committee, officials and all volunteers involved at Rossington Main have worked hard in recent years to establish a positive reputation for the club in both the local community and the wider footballing fraternity. We are rightly proud that this club is appreciated as one which upholds the true values of grassroots community football, and that Oxford Street is seen as a welcoming and friendly ground to visit. We ask that you help us to maintain this reputation during your time with us at the ground, ensuring that all present have a positive experience, regardless of the match result, and leave more than happy to visit us at Oxford Street again. Football is, after all, a game to be enjoyed by players, spectators and officials alike. Rossington Main is a keen supporter of both the ‘Respect’ and ‘Kick It Out’ campaigns, as such foul, racial or obscene language will not be

tolerated within the ground. Please respect the right of all supporters, both home and away, to enjoy the game of football.

Please do not;- Ride bicycles in the ground- Smoke in the Main Stand or any club buildings- Stand in front of the seated areas- Allow dogs off their leads- Consume alcohol from glass containers at pitchside.- Enter the field of play before, during or after the game, other than at times necessitated for Health & Safety.
