Open studio sessions allow artists the opportunity to work on their own in an equipped creative environment. The studios are available when classes are not in session. Call (937) 296-0294 to learn available hours and any necessary orientation or pre-requisites.VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open studio fees to stay longer than 15 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended.STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card.OPEN STUDIO FEES: Pottery – Sculpture – Painting – Enameling – Glass – Dance Drop-in fee per visit: $4/resident; $8/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $30/resident; $60/non-resident. Supplies are not included in open studio fees. LOCKER RENTAL: Lockers are available for rental on a pre-pay six-month or yearly basis. Six-month: $20/resident; $25/non-resident; Yearly: $35/resident; $45/non-resident.POTTERY STUDIO: Clay fee of $19 includes 25 pounds of clay and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded. Attendance at a free pottery studio orientation is required of all first-time participants.DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes, and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment. Darkroom fee per visit: $5/resident; $10/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $35/resident; $70/non-resident.

Reminder: Discount Cards must be processed by the individual holder. Discount Cards are for individual use

only and not to be shared among friends or family.

Rosewood Arts Centre is a unique community program and facility located in Kettering, Ohio. A division of the City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Rosewood presents opportunities for the public to experience the visual and performing arts. Over 350 classes are offered annually for youth and adults as well as gallery exhibitions, theater performances, drop-in facilities, artist studios, and special events.

The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is pleased to offer a signing interpreter for hearing-impaired patrons who want to take a class at Rosewood Arts Centre or the Kettering Recreation Complex. Please give us three weeks’ notice to schedule the interpreter and call (937) 296-0294.

Rosewood Arts Centre provides facility rentals for various events, meetings and programs. For more information about facility rentals, please call (937) 296-0294.

CLASS CANCELLATIONRosewood Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel any class and to substitute faculty when necessary. Classes will be canceled three working days prior to the starting date when there is insufficient enrollment.

ARTIST STUDIOSArtist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre and applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Spaces are available for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Studio spaces are $85/month

CITYSITES

CitySites is a percent for art program recognizing artistic excellence, accessibility to the arts for all people, and the positive impact creativity has on our community and quality

of life in the City of Kettering. Established in 1999 through the Kettering City Council, CitySites empowers a citizen advisory committee, the Art in Public Places Committee, to develop and oversee public art programming in Kettering.

Recent projects include an aluminum pour as part of the National Bronze Sculpture Symposium and the commissioning of works by local artists Katherine Kadish, Jean Koeller and Hamilton Dixon.

Comic Book Studio is back! Rosewood Arts Centre is once again partnering with the Gem City Comic Con to present the second annual Comic Book Studio Day. This series of 90 minute workshops, led by professional illustrators and writers will teach you the basics of comic book creation.

Those who register for all 3 workshops before March 28th will receive two free tickets (valued at $20) to attend the Gem City Comic Convention, April 5 and 6 at the Nutter Center.

Basic Theatre InstructionAge(s) 9 – 15

This class provides instruction in the basic theatre skills of pantomime, movement, voice and diction, improvisation, script work, audition techniques and performing a monologue. This is a prerequisite for the Kettering Children’s Theatre and Advanced Theatre Instruction.

Advanced Theatre InstructionAge(s) 9 – 14

This course builds on the skills gained in Basic Theatre Instruction. We will focus on proper breathing techniques, voice projection, speech and diction exercises, audition techniques (including selection and preparation of individual audition pieces), developing a character, and performing a short play. The final play will be performed before an audience. Enrollment is limited to 12 to allow for the depth of work required. Prerequisite: Basic Theatre Instruction. This is a prerequisite for the Kettering Children’s Theatre.

The Kettering Children’s ChoirThe Kettering Children’s Choir was founded in 1986 and now includes over 200 singers from the Greater Dayton region, ages 8 through 18. The Choraleers, Chorus, Chorale, and Concert Choir sing music of all periods and types, from Renaissance to contemporary, and rehearse weekly at Rosewood Arts Centre. Whether it is a first-time music class or getting on stage for a theater production, there are opportunities for beginners and advanced students in the performing arts at Rosewood!

Young dancers will learn and build on the basics of ballet, jazz, and tap dance techniques. Classes are geared for ages 3 through early teens.

Make musical memories with your child as you play, sing, move, and laugh together. Your child will learn and grow through activities that stimulate brain growth, build motor skills, enhance social-emotional development, and much more. A board certified music therapist will lead the class in live music activities that are fun and educational.

Basic tap and ballet steps will “move” us during our class. We will do stretching, splits, straddles and more in this 45-minute class. Tap shoes not required.

DANCE APPAREL

Dance classes, such as Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Modern are conducted in the Rosewood Arts Centre dance studio. Street shoes are not allowed on the dance studio floor. Slippers or socks with treads are safer than socks. Tap shoes or hard-soled shoes are required for tap. Leotards and tights are optional. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move easily. Leather-soled shoes are best for Ballroom Dance classes, held at the Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center.

Youth Jazz/Tap/Ballet ComboAge(s) 6 – 8

Join us for three styles of dance steps. Ballet barré work and stretches will warm us up, followed by modern jazz moves and tapping our toes to popular music. Tap shoes not required.

Comic Book Studio Day Saturday, April 12

Rosewood Arts CentreComic Book Studio Day is back! Rosewood

Arts Centre is partnering with the Gem City Comic Con to present the second annual Comic Book Studio Day. This series of 90-minute workshops, led by professional illustrators and writers will teach you the basics of comic book creation.The day will include workshops for adults and workshops designed just for kids. A group of comic artists will demo their artwork from Noon to 1 p.m. We will end the day with digital coloring.

ADULT/TEEN CERAMICS

Clay classes at Rosewood are perfect for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. Develop your hand building and wheel throwing techniques, and explore glazes and surface treatments unique to your project!

Wheel PotteryAge(s) 16 +

Beginners learn how to throw pottery on the wheel, develop skills and create basic forms. More experienced will expand on basic throwing skills and focus on refinement of forms: i.e., foot design, handles, lids. Some hand building is included. Fee includes 25 pounds of clay and related firings. Clay tool kit required. *Class will not meet on May 26. **One class skipped to be announced.

FEESFull payment for classes must be made at the time of registration. Resident fees are for those participants who either live or work within the Kettering city limits. Program fees for non-Kettering residents will be an additional 25 percent or $5, whichever is greater (not to exceed $10). Fees will be refunded if a class is full.

PAYMENT METHODSThe City will accept cash, personal checks, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) and money orders for the payment of fees. Please note which of these forms of payment is acceptable for the method of registration you choose. The City cannot accept any debit cards for payment. The City will charge a $25 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. Checks should be made payable to: City of Kettering.

CONFIRMATIONOnce we have processed your registration, we will mail you a confirmation showing which classes you are enrolled. If we were unable to place you in a class, the fee for that class will be placed in your family’s household account as an account credit, and this, too, will be noted on your confirmation. You may:

1. ON-LINE REGISTRATION (credit card / household balance only)Registration begins on Monday, March 10, at 8 a.m. for residents. Non-residents may register beginning Monday, March 17, at 8 a.m. The City of Kettering encourages patrons to login to the system (www.ketteringoh.org) prior to Monday, March 10, to verify household information (address, residency status, family members). Your residency classification is based on your status as of your last enrollment or pass registration. To modify your information, please contact the registration staff at the Kettering Recreation Complex (296-2587), Rosewood Arts Centre (296-0294) or Lathrem Senior Center (296-2480). Keep in mind: registrations will not be permitted until the above-stated dates. If you experience trouble using the system, please contact the Kettering Recreation Complex staff at 296-2587.

2. MAIL-IN (check / credit card / money order / household balance)Mail-in registration begins as soon as you receive this brochure. Simply fill out the registration form included in this brochure, include payment or credit card information, and mail to:

City of Kettering residents will be given preference until Monday, March 17. All registrations (resident and non-resident) received after March 17, will be processed by date received.

3. DROP-OFF (check / credit card / money order / household balance)Registration drop boxes will be available at the Kettering Recreation Complex and Rosewood Arts Centre for those who wish to drop off their registrations instead of using the mail. Drop-off registrations will be handled just like those that are mailed.

4. FAX (credit card / household balance)Complete the registration form, include payment information and fax the form to the Kettering Recreation Complex (937) 296-3297 or Rosewood Arts Centre (937) 296-3289. Faxed registrations will be processed on exactly the same schedule as the registrations that are mailed in or dropped off. Note: See below for validating residency status.

5. WALK-IN (cash / check / credit card / money order / household balance)Starting Wednesday, March 19, you may register in person at the front desk of the Kettering Recreation Complex or Rosewood Arts Centre during regular business hours: KRC: Mon. – Fri., 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Rosewood: Mon. – Thurs., 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. KFWC: Mon. – Fri., 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Sat., 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Fri., 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sat., 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sun., 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sat., 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sun., 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

6. PHONE (credit card / household balance only)When phoning in your registration, we ask that you have the following information ready for the operator:

1) preferred classes and correct levels; 2) alternate classes; and 3) credit card number. Note: In order to receive resident rates on a phone-in registration, you must have a current resident I.D. card or activity pass. Customer Reward ProgramWe’ve redesigned our Customer Rewards Program to provide residents and non-residents with immediate savings. Our new program gives you an immediate 10% discount when you sign up for classes during the first two weeks of registration. This exciting new program begins with the Spring 2014 season.

Beginning January 2014, Kettering residents will no longer accrue reward points when registering for classes. Additionally, any points you currently have will expire December 31, 2014.
